The greenhouse has a diverse variety of beautiful healthy plants. I hope to return on my next visit to the area

I love finding local nursery's and this one did not disappoint! I assume the owner was super friendly upon walking in and immediately offered if we needed help finding anything. They have a great selection of all garden items including a nice selection of healthy plants! I have to say the BEST part of finding a var. string of pearls for $2.99!!!! What a steal and it's still thriving and great condition! If you're a beginner plant plant looking for a nice selection at a good price, stop by WTN!!!! read more

BEST prices in ALL the DMV! And everything here is quality. Seriously, everything sold here is 30-50% cheaper than other nurseries. IMO all the others have unreasonable prices. I bought $120 worth of terrarium plants that easily would have cost me $200+ elsewhere. Shop owner is super friendly and gentle. They sell Xmas trees too and there's a lot to look at inside/outside the store! read more

What a beautiful nursery! All the little nick nacks for your garden or even in your own. Wish they had smaller Easter island head sculptures so I could put it in my apartment lol. Visit wolf trap nursery on a whim will looking for a "live" Christmas tree. While they did have a lot of trees that smelled wonderful (get that Fraser firn y'all). We were really for a tree on the smaller side (less than 2' Inchrd). But we fell in love with the outside decor and just had to take a look inside, which we were not disappointed! Totally decorated all their sculptures inside for Christmas. Even offering some complimentary hot apple cider, ginger snaps and brownies. My boyfriend and I fell in love with their low light plant selection and ended up buying an Antorium Lilly. We eventually journeyed through their zen garden green house and so beautiful. Fell in love with their bonsai section and I remember that they offer bonsai 101 classes so I think we'll definitely take advantage of that in the spring/summer. They lady who helped us was very kind and knowledgeable. Once we told her a lot of our plants are lowlight she immediately showed us some other easy to care for plants. I will say I think the poinsettias were a little pricey...you could continue driving down 7 and find another place nursery with bigger poinsettias for same price her. Anyway I look forward to visiting Wolf Trap Nursery in the spring, summer and fall. If you are ever looking for eclectic sculptures for your garden definitely check this place out. read more

Bonsai heaven! Very friendly and helpful. Great selection of plants and fun bonsai examples (too expensive when they get old and big)

So thrilled to have found this place!! The prices are so much better than the nursery in McLean and only about 10 minutes from downtown McLean. We got 3 trays of annuals and potting soil for less than what 1 tray costs at the other place, and we didn't have to fight the crowds at Home Depot and Merrifield. The owner was so helpful and knowledgeable, which you definitely don't get at the big box places. The construction in the area makes it harder to spot, but so glad we did! Oh, and they have a Military discount!! read more

This place has been in business since the 70s and has such a nice old charm! The owner is super sweet and is knowledgeable about plants and plant care. We got a gorgeous fiddle leaf fig and the owner was kind enough to spray some leaf shine on the leaves to bring out the beauty of the plant. Highly recommend! read more

I'm reviewing on behalf of their Christmas trees. This is the first year I've ever had a real, live, tall Christmas tree. Growing up, my parents were more into the fake, reusable tree. Last year, my hubby did buy a live tree from Whole Foods, but it was a tiny one since we were living in a condo. But this year, I finally got to experience the highs and lows of a real, 7 foot Christmas tree! We debated for a day or two on where to get our tree. Unfortunately due to COVID, we couldn't go to a tree farm as was my initial desire. Home Depot and Lowe's were options, but I really wanted to get a tree from a local nursery. Thankfully, one of my best friends told me about Wolf Trap Nursery. Specifically, she mentioned that the good folks at Wolf Trap would help tie and fit the tree into our sedan. Sold! We made the quick drive to Wolf Trap Nursery (another plus in our books) and found that it wasn't too crowded. Score, especially since we're still in the middle of a pandemic. The trees were all outside, and we were able to browse through the remaining ones with ease. We both wanted a Douglas Fir, and Wolf Trap Nursery had them! Once we found The One, we told a staff member. He said he would help give it a fresh cut at the base and wrap it up for us while we paid indoors. We also bought a tree stand here. After paying and even a quick browse through their bonsai, cacti, and other houseplants section, we went outside to see the kind staff wrapping up the tree. He told us to drive the car up to him, and he would secure it on our car. At first, we thought he was going to tie it to the top. However, since the top of our car was fairly curved, he decided to put it in the trunk. He carefully placed it inside the trunk, and he secured the trunk door with a fastening hook so our trunk wouldn't flop up and down while we were driving home. It took 5 minutes max for him to do all this, and we were on our way. It's been a couple of weeks, and our beautiful Christmas tree is looking festive and fluffy. We keep it watered, of course, and she's still healthy and living her best life. I'm absolutely chuffed about our decision to go with Wolf Trap Nursery. The staff there really make it a must-visit place. We'll be back for more Christmas trees and other plants! read more

Really nice plant nursery! I don't know anything about bonsai but they seemed to have a good selection with some affordable options. Lots of nice little terrarium plants for a great price! I live pretty far out but will definitely be coming back. Very nice owner. read more

Wonderful nursery! Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Healthy, quality plants. Unique terrarium plants and beautiful bonsais! I went in to get a gift and spent about an hour looking at all the plants and talking to the friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and helpful clerk, Bill Cupp! Being new to the area, I was very inquisitive about native plants and how to effectively plant in this clay soil. Bill was tremendously helpful and shared resources and reference materials. Of which, I went out and bought shortly thereafter! Completely pleasant experience. Highly recommend! read more

Got a bonsai as a gift from here. I think the owner delivered, which was a very nice personal touch. He was a bit intense about care instructions, which was intimidating a bit. We tried to follow them, but that didn't really help and the plant didn't even last a year. Perhaps, if I didn't have any other responsibilities in my life, it could have lived. So maybe not the best gift for a busy person with a job and kids. Or maybe the instructions were not quite right, since all my orchids and other plants (inside and outside, none from this place though) are doing just fine. Sad that it died though. It was pretty. read more

I passed by this nursery at the beginning of quarantine because I wanted to give my planting skills another go. I've killed many succulents so my expectations were close to zero. Upon entering the interior, I was welcomed by a friendly employee who showed me to the herbs section. Entering the green house, the temperature and humidity rose. Plants were perfectly kept healthy in a more tropical climate. There were ample of herb choices from basil to thyme and oregano. I chose the basil because I was craving pizza and I knew it would pair well with my jarred spaghetti sauce and dry pastas stocked in the pantry. I haven't seen a basil plant so tall in other nurseries so I knew I was taking this baby home. It smelled heavenly, like a big Italian dinner. The plant was $12 and the employee gave it some water before it got wrapped up for me to take home. I enjoyed my experience here. It wasn't busy and the employee was polite, wore a mask and was really good at staying the appropriate social distance. read more

Cannot say how wonderful our experience with Bill at Wolf Trap Nursery was yesterday! His recommendations, patience and actual delivery of what we decided on for a remembrance was top shelf service! In these days of rushing and impatience, we received nothing but kindness and thoughtful responses to all our questions. Horrible customer service, stay away from this place! The owner is rude and inconsiderate. Let me preface this review by saying, I LOVE buying local, which is why I chose to give wolf trap my business. We're new to the area, and wanted to decorate our house with some mums for the season. About 1.5/2 weeks ago, we went to the nursery and bought 4 mums. Keep in mind, the prices aren't the lowest, but you can expect that when you're buying from mom and pop shops (but it's worth the extra money... USUALLY)! Not even two full weeks later, I notice that two of the mums start dying, so I called to see if I could drive over to switch them out (all I wanted was a replacement). The owner immediately tells me no. I asked his reasoning, and he said: "I just wouldn't make that swap." I asked him to explain further, and he condescendingly asks me: "Well, did you even water them?" I went on to tell him that I have a green thumb and have been taking care of mums every season for years. He then asks me to measure the pots (to determine what size plants I bought). As I'm going out of my way to find a measuring tape, I ask: "well, if I'm going to measure them, are you even going to replace them?" and he states "no, I was just curious." I told him I had referred several neighbors to his shop and even told people about the bonsai class they offer (which I was going to take), and he still would not offer to switch out these plants for me. I asked him if he was concerned about his customers being happy, and he replied "well, good point" but still offered nothing. I have never wrote a negative review of a shop, and I told him I was going to write an honest review stating my dissatisfaction, and he replied "that's fine, go for it." Anyways, I would not recommend this nursery. I absolutely love supporting small businesses- it's charming, and it's what keeps small communities special, but this is NOT the one you want to support. Ironically enough, when we were paying for our purchase, the woman at the front desk gave us a speech on how supporting local nurseries is so important and that places like Home Depot and Lowe's sell horrible products--- meanwhile, my neighbors mums are doing just fine (purchased at Lowe's). Anyways- I dislike the idea of pressing "post" on this review, but taking advantage of customers is just not acceptable. I called my neighbor for a recommendation, and she recommends Merrifield Garden Center! On their website they state "we take pride in offering customer service that is unavailable in the big box stores and chains." As you see from my recent experience, they no longer offer that type of service. read more

Looking for a bonsai tree, I stopped by Wolf Trap Nursery and was very impressed with the selection. This place offers both shaped trees and ones to rework on your own as well as a number of other tropical plans in a delightful greenhouse. There are even Asian orange trees here covered with those charming gum ball-sized fruit. A few bonsai trees were older and one looked ancient with a gorgeous root system. The staff member (not sure if he was the owner) was really nice, offered assistance but left me alone to keep choosing, and even provided some printouts with care taking instructions for the new addition to our plant family. As a quirky bonus, two small dogs kept following me around the store. Apparently, they live in the neighborhood and come here to help the guy work daily. Lovely place that, alas, closed too early for the night (5 pm). read more

Great variety of house plants/succulents and well cared for bonsais. Staff is very knowledgeable and super helpful. The prices are reasonable as they vary from the size/age of the plant. They were also generous and let me scoop up some moss at no charge from around the nursery. In conclusion it was a pleasurable experience. read more

This is a nice place with a large greenhouse with plenty of selection of plants. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I came over from Maryland with my girlfriend to buy a bonsai for a friend's birthday. I was a little shocked by the prices that I saw. The cheapest bonsai was $20 and that was the smallest probably only 1 year old bonsai. I've bought multiple bonsai in Florida and for that price I was able to buy fully developed bonsai. Either way, this plant nursery has a wide of array of plants and other tools for cultivating them. Just be aware of the prices read more

This place is made of love and magic. I stopped in with my mom on a whim. We were driving past, I had seen the sign over and over and over, and I'd always wanted to check it out. All I have to say is Meadows Farms is dead to me. The plants were healthy, well tended, and beautiful. The selection was wonderful and diverse. The whole place felt like walking into a different world. The bonsai room was pure wonder. I hadn't been interested in bonsai until now. The orchids were phenomenal. And then we made our way to the landscaping and outdoor plants. I filled a cart and had to stop myself from getting more. They had common types of plants--begonias, impatiens, zinnias, dahlias, hostas--but in uncommon varieties. The plants were so healthy--not stressed, despite the heat, and clearly very well cared for. The entire operation felt like a labor of love. The people who helped us were sweet, knowledgeable, and honest. And the prices were really good. I was so impressed. I left elated, immediately told a friend, and she had the same experience. I am planning a new section of my garden based on the plants I saw there. It will be where I shop for plants from now on. read more

If you're inside the beltway, this place is an absolute chore to get to, since you either have to use the toll road or fight through the construction on Rt. 7. The good thing is that this place is worth the trip if you're looking for hard-to-find garden supplies or relatively exotic plants. Their bonsai selection is quite wide as is their orchid selection, and they are chock-a-block full of weird plant food and fertilizer. Want that extra large jug of Superthrive? Wolf Trap has it. Ladybugs, praying mantis egg cases and seaweed-based fertilizer? Check. A large amount of basic landscaping stand-bys, like sod? Well.. not really. I was there in late May and their tree and shrubbery selection looked like it had been picked to the bone, but then again, I was there for a goofy looking orchid and some fish-paste plant food. read more
