The plus is that means there's less of a crush at the concession stand, which typically has a handful of folks working at busy times. Ticket prices are relatively low, especially when compared to more urban areas. They do a few promos here and there and have the AMC points program. The snack bar is more extensive than most small town movie theaters. Their combos and sizing are, though, completely ridiculous. There's thimble sized, then there's vat sized (with free refills), with nothing in between, for both soda and popcorn. I understand that profits are in concessions, but seriously? This is just madness and more likely to keep customers from making a purchase at all, because they're stuck with wasting their money on food they don't want and can't eat. Every once in awhile during particularly busy times (think: the day after Thanksgiving) the bathrooms get out of hand, but it's rare for there to be a significant line for a stall, even for the women's facilities. I appreciate that the staff, uber-friendly as they are, are effective and professional about removing people causing disruptions. The transition to AMC lost a lot of this place's small town charm, but at least the staff are still trying to do a good job within their new chain's corporate structure.

We are not always sophisticated people, but we are excellent at pretending. We started at the bar, which looks the part completely. Elegant, well stocked, the kind of bar that makes you feel like you should be wearing something nicer than what you showed up in. I ordered an old fashioned, at which point the gentleman behind the bar admitted, with full transparency, that he was not actually the bartender and would need to Google how to make it. I genuinely appreciated the honesty. In a galaxy full of people who would have just guessed and handed me something terrible, this man chose truth. I thanked him, switched my order to whiskey and coke, and we moved on as allies. From there we headed to concessions and ordered the Take it to the Greek wrap, the La Bamba pizza, and fries with little bits of steak on top. The food was good. Not life altering, not the kind of meal that makes you grab someone's arm and say nothing, just nodding, but genuinely solid movie theater food that arrived at our seats without us having to do anything except recline and wait. The seats reclined. There were actual tables. This is civilized. We watched Disclosure Day, which if you have any interest in extraterrestrial or UFO subject matter is absolutely worth your time. Sitting in a reclining leather seat watching a film about potential contact with beings from other worlds felt appropriately cinematic, even if the leather on most seats has seen better days. Chipping and worn in spots, which is the one visible crack in an otherwise well maintained experience. The theater itself was clean, the concept is fantastic, and the overall vibe delivered exactly what a day date calls for. Four stars. The bar needs an actual bartender on deck and the seats could use some attention, but Living Room Theater is still one of the better ways to spend an afternoon in Indianapolis.

We bought our tickets online ahead of time, and when we got there I ordered the garlic cheesy bread and a drink at the counter. Total was around $15. The seats were really comfy and spacious, which made the whole experience feel worth it. The food came out pretty fast. The garlic cheesy bread was probably like a 5/10 for me... not terrible, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Overall though, really nice theater and I'd definitely come back for another movie night.

The YES Cinema & Conference Center is the premiere theatre in Columbus, Indiana when it comes to…read morethe indie/arthouse scene including alternative, cultural, and educational films along with the occasional cinematic classics. They also do run first-run features - for example, Black Adam is currently screening and they will be getting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the new Avatar flick among others. The YES Cinema is run by a Columbus, Indiana non-profit called Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center, an area organization that assists numerous support systems, i.e. neighborhood improvement, education and employment development, health education. and more. This is a smaller theatre with only two screens. However, it's a well cared for cinema and they host the annual YES Film Festival that just ran this past weekend. You can also rent spaces for business meetings, private screenings and corporate and private parties. YES Cinema's two screens have relatively newer chairs, though they fall short of the more premium/luxury seating options available in a lot of theaters these days. That said, they're quite nice compared to a lot of indie/arthouse options you will find. The screens also do offer Dolby digital surround sound (which is fairly standard for most cinema chains, however, not always for smaller theaters or arthouse cinemas). The employees I met were friendly, the location in downtown Columbus is convenient, parking is free and plentiful, and accessibility is overall quite solid including parking, entryways, and screens. The theatre is clean inside and out and I was super comfortable. In terms of snacks, they do serve wine and beer here. You are not allowed to take in food or drinks of your own and they also have a notice that backpacks are not allowed. You can get a free small popcorn on your birthday (with ID and only on your actual birthday). Fun facts? The first film shown at YES Cinema was White Christmas (2004). The film "Columbus" holds the box-office record for sales at YES Cinema (which is incredibly appropriate - not only is the film set in Columbus, but it was actually filmed in Columbus). Under ordinary circumstances, I'd probably stick with a 4-star rating for the cinema. However, there are two reasons I'm offering up the 5-star: 1) Because of the cinema's charitable roots it really is a movie theater that benefits a great cause. 2) Ticket prices for movies are typically $5 - that's right around half most theaters and even less than some matinee prices here in Indy. They do sometimes charge more for special events, but their prices make it affordable for families and for those on a limited income. There's an awful lot to love here. If I lived near Columbus, I'd be here all the time. If you're in the Columbus area, I definitely recommend it. It may not quite measure up to your more premium cinemas, but it's an awesome little theatre and one of Indiana's true cinema gems.

I really did not want a bunch of drastic changes because I love this theater just the way it is. The old app doesn't work but a new one is coming. The new website is up and running. Plus current showtimes are posted on the windows. Matinee ticket prices are $8 plus our refreshments for two people was only $22.
