I think their memberships are misleading. I paid for annual membership last year instead of paying monthly. They charged my CC 2 weeks ahead of annual due date without ant notice, I called to discuss said membership and left a message with an AI messenger two weeks before membership was due and NEVER RECEIVED CALL BACK. Then I spoke with an actual person who said manager was out. Never spoke with manager. Could have been so simple but poor customer service, management MIA and does not seem to care and it took 2 weeks to receive back my so-called membership dues. For plumbing, I think their prices are high, I supplied all the parts and I was still charged $900.00 +/- to replace a shower head and faucet and to fix a toilet. Yeah never again. Caused a gas leak in my home. In December, I noticed my hot water wasn't getting as hot as it used to. I called Wolcott because I had an existing relationship. On the 2nd appointment they identified the problem, and were able to find a new water heater and install it same day. I was grateful and the technician at my home was friendly, respectful and accommodating. That was when the good experience ended, and the dangerous situation began. They left around 3 pm. I took my dog for a walk shortly after and returned 1.5 hours later to a strong smell of gas in my garage that quickly expanded into the rest of my home. This was a few minutes after 5pm. I called Wolcott and was greeted by their smarter-than-average AI assistant. The AI told me he was sorry there was a problem and advised that the next time someone could help me was during an 8 hour window the next day. I asked to have this marked as an emergency and have someone call me ASAP. The AI told me it would have someone call me as soon as 7am the next day. I knew that was too long, so I called NW Natural. They deemed it an emergency and told me not to turn on anything with power near the water heater, open all possible windows and exit the home. They sent someone over in less than an hour, their first available technician. NW natural told me that the Wolcott team had put all of the pieces back, but that one simply wasn't tightened. This caused the gas leak. I am grateful for NW Natural for coming so quickly, fixing the issue and helping me feel safe. The next morning, I waited for my call from Wolcott. At 9am, when I hadn't heard from anyone, I called them. Their dispatcher was unaware of the message I left or the issue. She apologized and asked what i wanted to have happen. I said I wanted to speak to someone given this was a life threatening mistake. Around 1.5 hours went by and their head of customer service called. Honestly, this is when the worst part of the experience began. His call started by saying he heard of the situation and wanted to ask if I had a statement from NW Natural to confirm what was wrong. I explained I did not as the technician was part of their emergency crew, and I did not ask him to verify the names of the parts he fixed because he was in a hurry to his next call. The customer service manager then proceeded to tell me of all of the tests they completed, which came across as him being defensive and actually as if he was questioning if he believed me or if I was telling the truth. He then asked me to name what would make this "right" to me. I had no idea. I told him it was a life or death situation and incredibly scary and I suggested maybe just the labor for the service, not the parts. He responded by asking me if "I really thought this inconvenience was worth thousands of dollars." He proceeded to argue with me for quite some time and essentially tell me that because he is in the industry he knew this wasn't a big deal. I told him every response he was making was making my experience worse. I also suggested the following: 1. When something this terrible happens, always start your call asking if the customer is safe and okay. Ask if there is anything you can do. 2. Don't ask me to suggest what you should "refund" to me. Offer something from the start. That goes a long way. 3. Train your AI to understand words like "emergency" and "gas leak" and ensure it tells customers to call 911 or the gas company. Not doing so is a liability. I understand mistakes happen. And I honestly felt bad for the very professional tech who worked in my home, but this was very scary and dangerous. My home, my belongings and my family could have been forever altered that day due to their actions. Their head of customer service made this entire situation the worst customer experience of my life. He was so tone deaf in how he handled everything, I won't be surprised to see if he writes a negative response to this review. They did refund me $500. I guess that is the going rate for causing a problem that could blow up your home or your neighbors. read more

Since our HVAC is still under the builder's warranty, the builder sent Wolcott (builder's contractor who installed our system) to troubleshoot. HVAC too loud; thermostat not following programmed schedule. They checked a few things but were unable to solve. They told us they'd return but went back and told the builder that everything's normal so the builder would not further assist. And they went silent. They shared no data backing the "normal" claim. Is this how an ethical company operates? You be the judge. After being left in limbo, we hired a certified, trained expert of our brand who utilized diagnostic tools. Some of the main issues: 1) HVAC was paired with a thermostat that wasn't wired correctly for the auxiliary heat. 2) The gas furnace was heating at the same time as the heat pump which was causing overwork. I'm embarrassed to say that I used to recommend Wolcott to friends and neighbors. They had good availability and did a workmanlike job. Not stellar, on the pricey side, but they got the job done. In recent years, they've gotten exorbitant, pushy, and the work is outright shoddy. Their plumber caulked a toilet with all the skill of a 6yo's craft project and when I sent them photos of the work, they never responded. They 100% are predatory, pressuring you into work you don't need & counting on customer ignorance to cover the poor quality of their work. They joke about how much they rip off their customers when they don't know you can hear them. They charge you for coming to do an estimate, so if you do have to use them, I strongly recommend that after they give you their 3-tier highway robbery quote, you have them wait while you call other plumbers or electricians to get quotes for the same work description. They quoted me $2.5k for work that is normally around $800 (plumbing.) They wanted $2k to replace a bathroom fan and GFCI. When I brought in a different plumber to fix something that they had done incorrectly, he mentioned that Wolcott is near the bottom of his list, both for their business practices & their work quality. Then he laughed and said, 'but I guess I should appreciate them more, I make a lot of money fixing their work.' There are dozens of plumbers in the Portland area who do better work at better prices. I have been a customer since I moved to area in 2022. The service has been outstanding both the annual maintenance/inspection and when there was an issue with a leak. Selling the house and just had the A/C service inspection done by Connor. He was professional, thorough and walked me through the service provided and condition of the system. Conner Himes came to the house to do maintenance. I was really impressed with his professionalism and knowledge of our system. He walked me through the options to improve our unit, but after his assessment, he said we were good for the winter. On top of that, his hospitality was top notch. He sent me pictures to email of what was suggested to be cleaned or fixed in the future. Along with a full write up. Wolcott, Conner is a keeper. Over priced and under qualified! Hired this company for a plumbing project. They said it would take 3-4 days. I have enough experience to know that means it'll probably take 4-6 days. They managed to spread it out over nearly 5 weeks. To tell the whole story would take too long so here are the "highlights": - they only worked 1-3 hours a day - didn't have the right equipment or parts - destroyed my backyard gate - scheduled the wrong inspections - failed 6 inspections - seldom responded to texts, calls and emails This company delayed my project by over 2 months. When I contacted the owner, several times, about a partial refund for the delays and to repair my gate he ignored me. Save your time, money and headaches. Find someone else! read more

I called on a Wed. to fix a toilet leak. I got a Thursday appointment followed by both a text and email messages confirming the next day appointment. I got a late call on Thursday saying they could not make it but would come on Friday. Again I got an email and text confirming the Friday appointment. I called on Friday afternoon and was told someone would be out for sure on Monday. Again a text and confirming email. I called at noon on Monday and was told not to worry, someone would call when they were an hour out. I cancelled because I found this unacceptable and unprofessional. If these guys tell you you need to replace your entire water heater, do your homework and get a second opinion. They sent someone over who did a full descaling and charged us $700+ (which I later learned I didn't need) and afterward said we'd probably need to replace the whole thing. Got a second opinion and the guy just cleared some cobwebs in the manifold (which Wolcott claimed they did) and the temperature went back to normal. Had to ask Wolcott for a full refund, which they gave me. Not saying they are not good at their job in general, they just missed the mark on this one. read more

UPDATE: Owner cares about his company and makes the effort to resolve these sorts of issues. Additionally, the individual plumber, Joel, who performed the work no longer works at Wolcott, and so I feel its right to isolate my experience to him and not hold Wolcott as a whole responsible for what were his unethical choices. . . . My sink was spitting up black flecks of rubber. Joel the plumber insisted it was the angle stops, not the hose. I paid $675 for those angle stops. The problem persisted. They told me to wait and see if the issue resolved over the weekend. When it didnt, they said they needed to "rebuilt" the faucet with a Delta Diamond cartridge for $345. At this point I was suspicious, so I researched what "rebuilding" a faucet means. It is a 5 minute job. One allen key. You take out the previous Delta Diamond cartridge and easily place in a new one. Parts are $40 at Home Depot. With the trip to Home Depot it is a 25 minute job. So I did it myself. When the issue still persisted, I took a harder look at the hose. Guess what? It was the hose. Its even a common issue, and talked about endlessly in the reviews of the replacement hose on amazon. Joel lied to my face, and I'm glad he no longer is associated with this company. read more

We had Wolcott come inspect the crawlspace of our rental home after we had experienced a leaking water pressure regulator. This was in the aftermath of the most recent snow and ice that the Portland metro area experienced during the very cold spell in January. Wolcott worked us in to their schedule as quickly as they could. In the meantime, I was able to repair tge regulator on my own--much to the relief of our renters. On the day of the appointment the tech, Anthony, called me approximately 20 minutes before his arrival. He did a thorough inspection of the crawlspace looking for leaks and verifying my repair of the regulator was successful. He also adjusted the regulator so that the water pressure coming into the house was correct. Based upon his inspection, Anthony provided me with his observations and made recommendations for remediation of the remaining standing water that I had not entirely cleaned up.
