    Loved the Vegetable Lo Mein
    Krystle M.

This review is based on my solo experience as a private diner getting takeout for myself to consume at home. I am planning on hiring Wok on By to cater/provide food for an upcoming teacher luncheon for 70+ educators during our school's version of Teacher Appreciation Week. I can't wait to provide a follow up review regarding that experience after it occurs near the end of April. For now, I can speak to the deliciousness of their Veggie Lo Mein (they even cooked it to order --without mushrooms, as I kindly requested), steamed white rice, and Honey chicken! Lots of fortune cookies made me happy. Food was ordered and ready in under 15 minutes, and it stayed hot and fresh for almost 40 minutes before I could dig in. Next time, I would like to try the general TSO's chicken, and maybe the chicken and broccoli dish. I'm still debating on what protein platter to order for our teachers (Vegetable Lo Mein is definitely a win) but regardless, I am confident that Wok on By is our best local and family-owned restaurant to choose for celebrating our middle school teachers!

I got the orange chicken and fried rice. The orange chicken was an inconsistent bite. One bite would be good the other bite would be trash The rice was absolutely perfect 10/10. Overall 7.8/10

WOK ON BY IS THE BEST FAST CHINESE PLACE IN ALL OF TAMPA. I have gone to many different places and i always get the same thing (General Tso tofu), and Wok on By has always been the best. The common issue i found is that other places just make the sauce too sweet, but Wok on by has got the flavor down to a T !! And the tofu is sooo perfectly cooked and an amazing texture. I also got the vegetable lo mein and it's really delicious. Service is always fast, which i appreciate cuz i just want my food.

Such a cheesy name right?? I kinda dig it though. I ordered take out from Wok on By and had it delivered. I ordered a vegetable fried rice, chicken and broccoli and spicy Hunan chicken. While everything had a great color, it lacked flavor. The vegetable fried rice had like no salt (I was completely shocked. Normally Chinese takeout is a bit too salt!), the Hunan chicken wasn't spicy and had more vegetables than anything else. There was also a piece of styrofoam in my food. All in all, the food isn't awful, but isn't the best I ever had either. I guess my quest continues for good Chinese food in the Carrollwood area...

Absolutely disgusting. I ordered the pork lo mien and it was really dark and tasted like black beans and the noodles were very over cooked. Barely any vegetables and over all just bad taste.

This experience had me fuming pretty quickly after finally convincing the boyfriend to eat Chinese food with me, typically a type of food he doesn't enjoy. It's worth noting that we're both allergic to mushrooms. I've worked in food service management for 10 years and have been trained heavily on allergen safety and expect restaurants to hold the same high standards when preparing items. We ordered via DoorDash, and I was hopeful as two of our items listed were considered "top dishes" on DoorDash. Upon ordering, we were curious as to what would actually arrive as it prompted us for spice level (for heat, which is something we've never had as an option for our dishes). He got the General Tso's, I ordered a Beef and Broccoli, and one egg roll. We were prompted for spice on every item but the egg roll. It listed a bunch of items I could add or exclude, so I ensured to put "no mushrooms" for all items as well as specifically notate for all items and the whole order that we were allergic to mushrooms. Our food arrived pretty quick and very hot, with four egg rolls and our dish which was a surprise. The egg rolls were bland and didn't offer much other than the fact that they were cooked well, were hot, and had a good shell. The insides need to be adjusted with something more, it left me wanting when I was done, a sign of a less than satisfying egg roll. He started on his General Tso's and instantly noticed huge chunks of mushrooms throughout the dish and we stopped eating as we didn't know if mushrooms were present in anything else. The fact that the establishment failed to take this basic request for dishes that typically don't come with mushrooms was disappointing and left me pretty upset at the blatant disregard for one's safety. Will never be back, we will in fact keep Woking on By the next time we see this establishment. Update: the food consumed caused intestinal issues and extreme nausea. Monitoring for similarity to food borne illness.

I waited until I was in the area and tried it. I was so impressed that I made a 2nd visit before I made this review. Located in a strip mall west of 275 on Fletcher, the menu is impressive. Once I disvovered, over 20 years ago, the treasure trove of authentic chinese dishes available at many chinese food places. I seldom order the cookie cutter American versions so many people find familiar. This place has Sichuan and Northern Chinese food. The ambiance is perfect, never too loud. The wait staff are young and pleasant. Very helpful and attentive. Plenty of free parking. My first visit blessed me with two cravable dishes that frolic in my mind joyously. The Handmade Noodles w/ Ginger & Scallìon and the Shrimp Rolls. The noodles made fresh every morning were luxurious on the palate, soft and silky with a perfect amount of heat from the chili oil and a subtle fragrant flavor that wooed the senses. The small crispy Shrimp Rolls bursting with delectable flavors was so enticing. I could devour those non-stop. I also had the Tea Smoked Duck and that is the only item I did not relate to. A bowl of seasoning is provided for you to dip your duck pieces as you ate. The duck alone had no appealing flavor. The flavor came as you dip the duck in the 5 spice. The issue was each bite tasted different, too little spice, too much spice and at times the perfect amount. I would much prefer for it to come flavored and spice by a pro in the kitchen so every bite was good. I tried a Choya Plum wine that was pleasant. My 2nd visit began with Sichuan Crispy Chili Wings. Delightful flavor, tossed with chili's, garlic and cilantro in a spicy sauce. An enjoyable amount of heat, covered in that tasty piquant and crispy sauce. The kicker was the addition of a few chunks of fried potatoes also covered in sauce. My sides were some low mein noodles and an amazing string bean dish stir fried with crispy garlic, minced pork and a chili sauce. A must try item. Again, a dish with spicy heat at a perfect pitch. The main attraction came in a small wok over a lit burner and is Griddle Fish. The same dish is also available in about 10 other protein choices. A fabulous dish that had wonderful textures and flavors. The fish however was mushy inside. Likely made with Swai or Tilapia which I detest since they live their lives in excrement. My fault for not thinking before I ordered since I had so many other choices. Delicious if you can get past the inferior fish quality. The desserts were marvelous. Cream Brulee Cheesecake and Yuzu Beignets. Rich and delectable. Beautifully balanced sweetness factor. Wife loved them! Cravable food is everywhere due to the chemicals fast food places use to trick your brain at the expense of your health. To find food you crave because of cooking mastery and the genius blend of the food, herbs and spices...well that is special. This is a special place. COME GET YA SOME!!

Even when it was brought to the table- the food looks good and promising! I was sat right next to the kitchen and to my astonishment, everyone in the kitchen was speaking Spanish!! I always say, THE BEST CHINESE FOOD is always prepared by CHINESE PEOPLE! Nothing against Spanish cooks, but if I'm coming for AUTHENTIC CHINESE FOOD, I want to know that there's someone back there who grew up eating the food they are preparing! With that being said, you can absolutely taste the Spanish influence! I have NEVER had fried rice that is covered in CILANTRO!! What?! The fried rice tasted like Spanish rice. We also ordered the General Tso chicken NOT SPICY. I heard the cook tell our waiter, "you gave them them the wrong one, you gave them the spicy one, did they say anything about it?" My white rice also had a dead bug in it!!! We didn't say anything because we already knew we would not be coming back here. So we just paid for our $83 bill and left, unsatisfied.. and went straight to Dairy Queen for chicken tenders Very disappointed as I had high hopes for a good Chinese restaurant.

We ordered the Spicy Boiled Beef, which is very spicy, so if you don't like spicy food make sure to let them know. The steamed buns were flavored with some spice on the outside which mixed with the spice of my dish made my tongue want water lol. Not bad and nice to try.
