Asheville Ear, Nose, and Throat - Image/Dr. Seal

Asheville Ear, Nose, and Throat

Dr. Seal put tubes in both my boys' ears when they were under one year old (7 months and 10 months…read morerespectively). I have the utmost trust in his ability. His entire staff is professional, timely and responsive to requests. We feel incredibly lucky to have had Dr. Seal operate on our boys. He is just the best - and even came recommended by my mom's boss who is an ENT in another city.

I attempted to establish care with Asheville Ear Nose & Throat after moving from Florida to North…read moreCarolina in 2024. I have a long history of chronic sinus disease, including three prior sinus surgeries and nasal polyp disease, so continuity of ENT care is very important to me. In January, I contacted the practice and was told that my prior ENT records from Florida would need to be sent before I could be considered as a patient. I completed the necessary paperwork with my Florida ENT in February and then waited several weeks. When I followed up with Asheville ENT, I was told the records had not been received. After contacting my Florida ENT, I learned that the request had apparently been handled incorrectly and that the records had been requested from Asheville instead of sent to Asheville. This caused additional delay, and no one at Asheville ENT appeared to catch or question the error. Once the records were finally sent, I was told they would need to be reviewed by an Asheville ENT physician to determine whether I was a viable patient. That review took additional weeks. In April, I was contacted and told that the physician had reviewed my records but that my history appeared to be "mostly allergies," and I was asked whether I even wanted to make an appointment. Given my history of chronic sinus issues, surgeries, and polyp disease, that response felt dismissive. I then provided my insurance information and was told they did not accept my plan. This was especially frustrating because when I contacted the office in January, my plan was associated with Cigna network access, and I understood that Cigna-participating providers were being honored under that arrangement. After reflecting on the entire experience, I contacted the practice manager and left a message asking for a return call. Nearly a week passed with no response. When I called again, I was placed on an extended hold, called back, and eventually spoke with the same person who had handled the referral. I explained that I was disappointed with the process and requested my records. At that point, I was first told that she did not have my records, and then I was told that she was not legally allowed to send them to me. That was especially concerning because, under HIPAA, patients generally have a right to access copies of their own medical records and protected health information. If the practice believed there was a reason they could not release any portion of the records, I would have expected a clear explanation or written direction on how to make a proper records request -- not a blanket statement that I was not legally allowed to receive them. When I asked to speak with the practice manager, I was only given a first name, was not provided a direct number, and the call ended abruptly. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. The process involved multiple delays, poor communication, confusing handling of records, no returned call from management, and an unhelpful response when I requested access to my own information. For someone trying to establish care for a chronic condition after relocating, this experience left me feeling dismissed rather than supported. I cannot speak to the quality of the physicians' care because I never got that far. My review is based on the intake, referral, communication, insurance, and records-handling experience.

I called and could not reach anyone and got no calls back when I left a message. Emily at the front desk is extremely aggressive and hard to talk too. When I lost this pair at a concert I came back and had Hearing Center make me two pairs just in case I lost one again. Along with my gf who also had a hearing mold made. So keeping in mind this would be 4 orders of very expensive ear molds I entrusted with HC of Asheville. Upon pickup I see that the molds do not have the plastic laniard I requested they are fabric which fall apart and come out of the molds. One of the pair lack completely any of the tabs you use to take the earplug out of your ear. Which wears the earplug after time having to grab on the body of the plug itself to remove. Emily and the other lady ran my card and it double charged me! So rang me up for 4 orders instead of the 2 I picked up from my checking account. When I called back Emily said "you should have paid cash if you were worried about them charging me twice!" As if anyone would think to pay cash for every transaction they think may be double charged by mistake! Absolutely ridiculous way to treat people. When I came back in to speak to these issues after my refund of the mistaken charge Emily threatened to call the police if I did not leave, she faked as if I was being intimidating when I was not in any way aggressive or hostile. None of my needs I addressed were taken seriously or in any way spoken too. I emailed Christopher Hamilton, the owner and never received a call or email back after a saga of what could have been an avoidable situation! Being a native and having a history of playing music in this town, I will be telling my peers to stay away from this business! The old owner in David Berkey I spoke with about the situation was also taken aback by the incident, bring him back! Was a way better steward of this business.

For the next while we worked together..and there was a considerable amount of problems to work on..and then he disappeared from the office. No explanation, and never was seen again by me, at least. Receptionist said he was doing research, furthering his career. After that a couple of other people came and went, the office always had new faces. Service was very questionable and after a few mistakes made on their part I decided it wasn't worth working with them.

Due to changes in my health insurance, I was referred to them again, through a 3rd party that my health insurance uses. They set an appt. for me for 3:45 today. Subsequently, Asheville Audiology called me and asked to move my appointment as they close at 4:30, and said "we want to have enough time before closing", and to arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork. Honestly? You couldn't take a bit more time? I had to move another appointment to facilitate this. I arrived a full 20 minutes early. Per their Covid policy, I called them from my car to let them know I was there. I got an answering machine. As it was a pleasant day, I got out of my car, and waited in front of their door. I could see the receptionist on the phone, and she saw me and nodded at me. Another employee walked about in the office and saw me waiting as well. She waved to me (twice...she came and went and came and went). The receptionist continued to ignore me. At 10 minutes AFTER my appointment time, which made near 30 minutes of waiting, she finally came to the door. "Sorry, I was on the phone with an insurance company and you know how that is." Really? I said, you couldn't put them on hold for 2 minutes to let me in for the paperwork you asked me to be early for? "Well, no, you can't come in and be unattended". Seriously?? What am I, a 3 year old??? At this point, I'd had enough. I told the woman that if this was the way they treated their clients, I did not require their services as they were obviously more concerned with insurance company $$ than being courteous to patients. NEVER AGAIN #rottencustomerservice

This review is for AccuQuest Hearing Center on Tunnel Rd in Asheville…read more His name is John Wilson. He's not a doctor, he's a "hearing aid specialist". What that means is that when you arrive for your appointment, he will see you on time instead of making you wait 45 minutes or more. He will greet you like a friend, and treat you like a valued customer. The product is of excellent quality, comparably priced to other products of the same caliber, and fits very well. The support this office provides for the product is absolutely outstanding. If you have problems with your hearing, go here first. If you need a doctor, he will tell you so. If you don't, why go to one?

But then they tell you this type of hearing aid won't work for your type of hearing loss. How absurd! I bought a BTE type, but have had nothing but trouble with them. The receivers last about a month and then stop working. They've even replaced the hearing aids completely but the same thing keeps happening. Also the office has cameras and mikes in each room. They tell you and your spouse to discuss the purchase and leave the room. They listen to see what your level of interest and commitment is. They adjust the sales pitch (and even the prie) accordingly. My advice is to avoid this company. There are plenty of reputable businesses out there, but this isn't one of them! You've been warned!
