I have been listening to 93.9 for many years ! I Love Delilah & Robin ! I am an 82 year old Senior & would like to know if I could nominate my son Sam for that Teachers Award !? He has taught for many years ! I feel that he goes beyond his job description , to educate his High School Students ! He has gone on many adventures, not only for himself but also his students ! He takes several photos & makes note of what he sees & does ! I feel he is Amazing &needs recognition ! Kids wanted to listen to Christmas music. For every song you have about 10 commercials. Absolute joke!!!

It is hard to believe that we are at Christmas time, and WLIT has been playing it since November 3rd, dos are pretty much the same, expect for I don't know when they got rid of the French guy Simon's is Simon Marcel, or did he drop his show or did they drop him? This is when you really got to be listening by now as Christmas is only 10 days away, and I know I got to even through I have spend somewhere time with North Pole Radio this month. Through why does it still say My FM when they have been back the WLIT The Lite, even since they play Deliah's syndicated show, which she still says the stations name on the air. And to get to hear voices like Elvis and Frank that otherwise they won't be heard, as their regular playlist is 80's til now, so I imagine that they have to play a lot of Michael Jackson music as well the rest of the year, when Christmas music is done and over for the season. read more

Reading the reviews of "the Lite", mostly based solely on their Christmas Seasonal programming, is a social study of Yelpers themselves. Some succumb to the mind-numbing "comfort and joy" that old Christmas faves bring, some just accept that "everyone and their mother" listens to the Lite during the Season, and some torture themselves, unable to even stand the thought that this station exists! I love to get in the Christmas mood with some old faves, just not too early. My son and I decorated my tree the weekend prior to Thanksgiving and neither of us was feelin' the Lite yet. Seriously, wouldn't waiting until Thanksgiving make the 24-hour Christmas programming that much more special? Still, when I tire of the station, I turn the dial or put on my XM "Holly" channel or fire up Charlie Brown Christmas. I'm not expecting to hear "Christmas in Hollis" by Run DMC on the Lite or anywhere! That's why I own it. When I was in college the college radio station ran a unique mix of Punk, Reggae ("Hallelu-Jah"), Avant Jazz, and rocking Hannukah music. I spent hours recording it and wish I still had it. I don't expect to hear any of that music anywhere but Left of the Dial, much less the Lite. I do expect to hear "The Christmas Song" 100 times a day, "White Christmas" (my fave) and that annoying Mannheim Steamroller stuff that my son actually likes. It makes me very happy. I have even caught myself humming "Jingle Bells" - in July. I almost broke down and wept last year when I was scrolling through radio stations and found that WLIT had started playing Christmas music on November 1. It's fitting that this station's call letters contain the word "lit". When it's not Christmas season and 93.9 is on, I have to be plastered to not tell someone to turn "that f-in" elevator music off. That, or trapped in a dentist's chair. So during Christmastime, it actually gains a second star. Sure they start playing holiday music a bit soon, but now with snow falling in December, it's fitting. No, my problem isn't when they play Christmas music, it's what holiday music they play. A couple of co-workers of mine listen to it non-stop right from the time the format starts each year and I tried to do this the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. WLIT is almost insufferable. They play the same six Christmas songs over and over it seems. By different artists, sure, but after hearing the fifth version of "White Christmas" in two hours (only barely hyperbole), I turned it off. Maybe I've been spoiled by the wider open format of the Christmas stations on Sirius but hearing the same artists "the lite" plays during the regular year doing Christmas favorites is painful. Maybe it's comforting to some to hear these old standbys over and over but it does no one a service. Christmas music haters are made by stations like this! I worked at a Borders after college and I know first hand that most years there are dozens of new Christmas CDs (including some by artists you wouldn't in a million years think would do a holiday record). And I think WLIT just threw every one of them in the last 10 years not by Michael Buble or Celine Dion in the garbage upon receipt. Why does it always have to be the lite rock station in every gosh darn city that does the Christmas format? The second a Christmas station plays "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues or "(It Sure Don't Feel Like) Christmastime" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones or even Ben Folds Five's "Brick" (aka "the Christmas abortion song"), I'll listen to that station the rest of the year. My friends think I'm crazy, but I live for this channel in early November... every year! CHRISTMAS FANATIC!

Everyone (rightfully) criticizes this radio station for their insipid and horrible Christmas music selection and their decision to blare it endlessly from Thanksgiving until Christmas, so I won't beat a dead horse. But I feel that a lot of these reviews are clearly missing another critical point: WLIT is also a terrible radio station during the rest of the year. They make the mistake of repeating the same 10-15 songs over and over all day long and rarely change the song lineup. Having been forced for many years to listen to this music at work I've had plenty of unpleasant hours to study this phenomenon. First, the vast majority of the songs being played are terrible songs from washed-up bands from the '80's and '90's. Most of these songs are forgotten because the music was bad and the bands weren't worth listening to in the first place. But rather than forget these songs and move on to better things, this station plays these songs endlessly as though they're the greatest thing since the Beatles or Rolling Stones. WLIT is likely their only source of royalty income these days. "Total Eclipse of the Heart"? No...please no. Second, WLIT does play a few songs here and there that are worthwhile (from bands like The Police, Peter Gabriel, U2, the Beatles) but they always selectively chose songs from these artist's catalogs and never play anything else by the artist. You'll frequently hear "I'll Be Watching You" from The Police and "I Still Don't Know What I'm Looking For" from U2, but that's about it. Why not "Synchronicity I and II", or "King of Pain" or "Tea in the Sahara" from The Police's landmark album? Why not "Where the Streets Have No Name" or "Bullet The Blue Sky" from U2's "The Joshua Tree"? Why can't WLIT learn to dig for the deep tracks that are just as deserving as the singles? This is why I, when I can, play WDRV (The Drive, at 97.1 on the dial) instead of WLIT. With WDRV they frequently change the lineup and constantly dig deep for tracks that most of us may have forgotten. They sometimes play entire album sides so you can hear albums as they were meant to be heard. Needless to say, don't listen to this station. Or better yet... if you're an employer or business owner, don't subject your employees or customers to this music. They'll thank you! read more

I walked into a Polish deli on the afternoon of November 2nd and what do I hear playing in the background? "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" on "The Holiday Lite." What's wrong with you people? I just put away my Halloween decorations yesterday. At least let me enjoy my turkey and sweet potatoes before I hear Perry Como, that Charlie Brown piano song, or Natalie Cole singing about roasting chestnuts on an open fire. Burl Ives would be rolling in his grave if he knew they'd be desecrating his classic Rudolph song by playing it at such a premature time. I felt sorry for the cashiers who have to put up with 8 hours of Christmas songs played ad nauseam. WLIT losses one star for their "Holiday Lite" music come early November (even when I did celebrate Christmas with the ex's family the flooding of holiday music really got to me - a little is nice, 24/7 is a different story), but the remaining stars were earned by bringing back Melissa Foreman. Honestly, the morning is the only time I listen to WLIT and booting Foreman for Whoopi Goldberg's syndicated radio show was not a good choice at all! I actually stopped listening to the station when it happened and it has been only recently that I started listening again because I became aware that Foreman was back - a very good choice if I do say so myself. All in all, I highly recommend listening to WLIT in the morning, but would like to suggest that the station rethink the whole "Holiday Lite" programming later in the year. read more

Thank you so much for being the default 'blah' radio station of choice that too many Chicago businesses force people to listen to during the rest of the year beyond the holiday season, and also turning me into a timid dude that shakes in fear whenever I hear Christmas music. I keep my radio set to this station pretty much from Thanksgiving to Christmas Day. I love their continuous Christmas season songs. Such wonderful classics. I can't get a "feel" for the morning DJ's. Maybe they should do less talk and play more music. By the way.... Merry Christmas!!! read more

I love Christmas music and I'm in love with the Holiday Lite, I wait for it all Christmas. This year they started their Xmas music in the middle of November so its only a month and a half of music. I love that they play Bing Crosby and Tony Bennett. I'm not really that into the newer versions of the old songs. read more

WLIT (The Lite-93.9 FM) is one of the worst radio stations in Chicago. Most of the songs they play are so dull and annoying. I don't like this station at all and it's even worse during the Christmas season. The Lite plays the same Christmas songs over and over again from early November-December 25 each year. Horrible!!! My co-worker has had this station playing NON-STOP 8 am - 4 pm since the Monday after Thanksgiving, and it's only Dec. 8. And I think I might just have to kill her. I don't mind so much that it's all Christmas music. What I do mind is that they REPEAT so many of the songs OVER and OVER throughout the day. I listen to your staion faithfully, truly enjoy the music you play. However I am not at all in favor of playing Christmas music BEFORE Thanksgiving. I know I have the option of turning off the radio but I'm in a habit of having it on all day long, however I may have to find a different station. Nice music and I love the evening show. When it is Xmas time they are the only one station that they play the holiday songs.

I'm kind of disappointed with the Christmas music this year. They are goods songs for the most part but they are played to death. I haven't heard Vince Guarldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" even once when I tune in . I really hate "Ring Christmas Bells" by Ray Conniff I love Ray Conniff's other Christmas classics like Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, Twelve Days of Christmas. But God that song is so annoying and played to death. And nothing against modern Christmas music I like it I just wish their was more variety with the classic Christmas music. There are more classics of Bing Crosby instead of "White Christmas", more classics of Nat King Cole instead of "The Christmas Song", more classics of Andy Williams than "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and "Happy Holiday" played over and over. Finally, the ads get really annoying after the fifteenth ad. I've been listen to Youtube and my Christmas CD's more than LITE FM this year. Which is disappointing because it is a Christmas tradition. Lite fm is ok during the rest of the year but during the holiday season it is Awesome! I love Christmas music in fact you could say I am kind of addicted. I look forward to the 24/7 christmas music every year. YEs it can sometimes seem as though they play the same songs over and over but I have a bunch of christmas music CDs I can listen to if I want. It drives my family crazy but I don't care. They call me the Christmas Queen and I wear my crown proudly!
