Friday, 4/14/23...(7:30pm) guess it's robo dj, .....but, whatever- it's a great playlist!!! kudos to the architect!! love it!

These guys keep me in the Loop! This is a fun radio station that serves the community. They play a local playlist of bands from Chicago, songs about Illinois, and talk about local political and social issues. Since this station is on the left side of the dial, there's no real commercials on here- it truly serves the community with the occasional public service announcement. Plus, they talk about things that other radio stations won't or can't have the time to discuss. The celebrate all the local holidays, and have some in-depth discussions on all things Chicago. If you don't like the music on here, give it an hour, and the DJ will change, and they'll put something else on. This morning, I woke up jamming to Tupac with them. You can pick up this station on a smart speaker world-wide! If you're missing Chicago, or just wanting to learn a little more about the Windy City, this is a great way to tune in and turn on! read more

This station is true hidden gem. I moved into the city with my family this month and tuned into my old trust radio. Way at the left end of the dial comes original music and human DJs. Compared to the commercial stations regurgitating the same tunes over and over. I have always admired college radio. This station is a clear example of why. WLUW features community based programming as well. Great job students and staff@ read more

Cows being sent to slaughter are frightened. Purely and simply put the terror they feel in their final few days is something most people wouldn't be able to imagine. They are transported from feedlots around the country (which are terrible places in and of themselves) in cramped, jarring, stinking trucks which are soaked slick with the piss and vomit and shit and blood of their co-captives. From there they are prodded down ramps into lots at slaughterhouses where they'll wait for death. And don't think for a moment they don't know what is coming... don't assuage whatever 'hot dog guilt' you've got thinking that they're sleeping on green grass, blissfully unaware of the grisly end that awaits them. Abattoirs reek of death. You can hear the screaming beyond the walls. Smell the blood and shit... there is an air of horror about the places. From the lots, they are then pushed up ramps which narrow and twist and turn their way into the side of the building. Eyes bulge, cow presses against cow, thick tongues loll and the air thickens around their heads. Then, if they're lucky, they're stunned so that they can be hung upside down, have their throats slit and be made into something tasty for some fat asshole to eat. Where was I going with this... oh yeah - if the meat packing companies blasted WLUW over some loudspeakers at the slaughterhouse holding lots, the cows would probably be less freaked out. Their music is top tits! Also - Mary Nisi is heck of awesome! She almost DJed my wedding but got a really nasty case of SAD (in the Summer, no less!) before the date. read more

WLUW would get 4 or 5 stars from me, but their broadcast range (100 W, according to their website) is too limited and I have to rely on the Internets to listen. That said, another big-up for Kenny Kicks (my friend of 13+ years & bandmate in the Strange Attractor) & Darius and their show, Reality Radio, in addition to Kate & Rachel's Old-style Show. I have had the chance to listen to the turntablist-oriented show Abstract Science. I was astounded to find out they get exclusives from some of the biggest names in DJs -- quite a feat for a station with such small range. They also feature the independent media news program Democracy Now!, one of 4 Chicago-area stations to do so (M-F 9-10 AM). read more

I'm not just a volunteer at this outstanding station but I'm a listener and dedicated fan!!!! read more

WLUW 88.7 FM - Tijuana Hercules performed on The Razor & Die Show! - Radio Stations Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

WLUW is college radio at it's best. I especially enjoy Wordslingers with Michael Watson. I believe it regularly airs on the 1st and 3rd Sunday nights of the month 8pm-9pm. One thing that I did notice recently is that seemed to be a WLUW staff change-up. We will have to see if this makes the station even better, or plunges it into mediocracy, read more

My fav. independent community radio station that's broadcast right on Loyola's campus. They have an address on Sheridan Road also where the campus is. Some of the best indie. and alt. solo artists and bands can be heard on this station.,it kind of depends when you are listening however. My fav. show is their Fri. feauture with Nick T. "Full On Fridays" of which I had the pleasure of being a guest on and performing live in their studio. read more

WLUW 88.7 FM - I first heard about this band from WLUW. They play here sometimes. - Radio Stations Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

WLUW is a Great radio station! 24/7! Radio is dying(or changing for the worse...) but WLUW is still doing everything right. I have listened to WLUW for years, all hours of the day and night, and am always impressed with the music and conversation. This is the place to find the best new music first! But, they love and respect the classics too. Diggy's Funk-Soul Explosion, Friday afternoons, is a great example of that love and respect. Sunday morning's "Voices From The Circle" features Native American music. DJ Meat's Fresh Flesh Session is fantastic! But it's not currently listed on WLUW's schedule(I recently heard DJ Meat on a Wednesday afternoon/evening). Those are just two fine examples of the rich and diverse programming schedule at WLUW. I could write positive things about all of their shows. But it'd be better for you to hear it all for yourself. Visit their website to listen online and see their diverse program playlists. read more

I really wish I could work here. They play the best music and commentary programs in chicago, no other station really compares. If you are looking for any sort of independent or world music, or ever some good political chat, this is the station for you. It doesn't broadcast too too far, so that's the sad part, I wish I could drive around all of chicago and listen to it, but it just doesn't work out that way. They aren't a college station as other reviewers have posted, but they are located on loyola's campus. Also their record fairs and other fairs are spectacular around the city. read more

Oh, WLUW, I miss you so!!! A gigantic thank you for allowing my weekly late night drunken call-in's, letting me ramble on about local bands, my own experience as a college radio DJ in California, and how much WLUW rules in general. Another special thanks for all the free tickets you gave out. The Ponys, Devendra Banhart, Glass Candy... Over and over again, often using ,my friends names to avoid the 'one pair of tickets a quarter' rule. And of course I will never forget the many times you would talk to me as I would frighteningly drive myself drunkenly home, probably preventing a sudden sloshed sleep on more than one occasion. When I donated $50 to you during your pledge drive, not only did I feel like I was contributing to the over all well being of Chicagoans everywhere, but I scored myself an awesome t-shirt, a pack of buttons, a bumper sticker w/a mixtape on it that I proudly attached immediately to my beat-up station wagon, AND a subscription to Magnet magazine. It really was a sweet deal and I still am not too sure how you guys profited from that... Anyway, just wanted to say that I love you and I miss you. xo, Callie read more

WLUW is a very unique radio station. One of the best stations Chicago has to offer. Reception is pretty good for a 100 watt station. I've been able to tune them in as far away as Schaumburg before losing WLUW to one of the other college stations. read more

I really want to like radio, because I grew up with it as the sonic wallpaper of my youth, but when it's too repetitive and involves way too many commercials--or the same commercial--it's hard to put it on and just let it run when the box itself winds up actively begging you to turn off the noise out of disgust with the junk it's forced to purvey. Hell, I'm not even happy with Chicago's NPR affiliate, and I used to love it back in the '90s. So imagine my great joy when I dialed in a what-the-hell mood to WLUW and found... radio. All sorts of stuff, all kinds of music, some pretty odd programming, exotic and idiosyncratic and different and live and lovely and everything I'd really want from a radio station. I don't know how strong or weak the signal is, but I consider this a lovely fringe benefit to living in Rogers Park. read more

wonderful station. The best show by far is the hip hop project! they play things that the main stream stations over-look or hate on!! its a must sat 7:30-11:30! The only down side is that it is hard to hear down town :( but they have come to the rescue with an online broadcast!! read more

Oh how I miss full-on Friday's with Producer Nick! Can only get it via web in the city. Also Slacky J's Reggae show is great.

The folk show! The New Orleans show! The kids' show! Not to mention all the great indie music they serve up during the week. Whenever I listen to WLUW, I end up trying to scribble down names of songs and artists I've just heard...which is unfortunate, because it makes driving a little difficult. read more

I can't stand most of the boring repetative pap on the radio. In the morning WLUW gives me a jab of enthusiasm for the day ahead. They play a delightfully upredictable scatter shot of music. Very rarely one IS shanked in the kidneys with a horrible piece of new music, but I would argue that that is a sign of a good station. read more

All of the music is astounding, and I'm 4 months shy of 60 years old. I'm a night owl, so I listen to Adrian X. He's pretty awesome. Chicago is cold in the winter. Texas isn't. It doesn't. read more

i wish i had gotten involved at this station when i was a student at loyola. oh well. they play a nice variety and i always seem to catch 1 or 2 songs i really like when i'm on my way to work in the morning. even the talk radio shows are pretty decent. i also like that you can stream the station live online. some of the dj's are kind of annoying, especially the ones who constantly use long, drawn-out "ummmmmmmmmmmm"s but that's not really important i guess. read more

I love this radio station. I have been a listening to it for years, and it is one of only two stations that I listen to on the dial. I just wish it had more power to get on my radio when I drive south of Fullerton. read more

I really like this station, perhaps it is my favorite; however, I just can't give it 5 stars. There was some kind of management change a couple years ago and I don't think it was for the best. My favorite show was Full on Fridays with Di, but now there's some dude named Razor with Di, and Di was forced into second billing. No offense Mr. Razor, but you're a bit of a numbskull. Let Di go solo once again. read more

A+. Nice variety. If you just had a little more wattage, you could come in on my clock radio on Armitage and I could fall asleep to the WLUW. Andy L: keep up the good late-night dj action! read more
