Chicago is diving into the live feed mix with a wonderful new feed called CHIRP. This independent online station has brought together a wonderful group of men and women whose musical repertoire is simply astonishing. From small unheard bands to some classic but seldom played tracks these deejays truly give you a listening experience worthy of your appreciation. With no commercials or meaningless chatter, CHIRP is my new at home listen.

But, you have found a panacea of sorts....its called music and it heals. Now, with the help of Al Gore and his building of the internet....streaming online, you can get a rather mainstream but eclectic mix of killer tunes to smooth out all the edges of your day. Where else can you hear XTC, INXS, B.A.D (or any other acronym band), a righteous smattering of blues, swamp rock and all the new stuff too? Nowhere, that's where! Again, if you are like me and lived in Chicago for a while, you know XRT! I lived there over 12 years ago and the same DJ's are still doing their thing...it's amazing how radio people don't age! What's up with that? Anyway...check it out. Quality stuff.

My favorite thing that Chicago Public Media puts out is the Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me radio show. They usually broadcast from the Chase Theater in Chicago, but have been doing it from home for the past several months. Their opinions on the news tends to lean a bit to the left, so their programming appropriately hangs out on the left side of the dial. I always switch them off when they're on one of their frequent pledge drives, banging pots for money. I've heard these guys get paid quite well. But if you're listening, and not dropping some cash in to their virtual tin cup, you might as well be stealing. Jeesh- they lay it on thick. They do lots of great info on local issues, news, and topics. Tune in, turn on! They're not amused if you call 'em up and ask 'em to play some Skynyrd.

You want music without direction, rhythm jerky and all over the place with hardly a melody? There's the pulsating guitar out of tune, dysfunctional blaring musical instruments, and a vocal out of key attempting to sing coming out of nowhere every once in a while in a song that's hardly recognizable, then you came to the right radio station WONC 89.1 FM. By the way they won the Best College Radio station award In March 2015. Probably some of the board members from the college voted straight 5's to win! You'd never know they were once a Christian college. Look it up. Sadly, this is the style of music that's available at colleges today. And don't look for a change of pace on Sundays either, for a little spirituality? It's not in the mix for sure. It seems the programming manager just zapped it out of the program.

The DJs aren't the smoothest, but that means this isn't Clearchannel or Infinity Broadcasting. If you can't get it in your car, check out the website - live streaming. Local fitness guru Nicki Anderson does a show on wellness, as do a few other local celebs. Tuned in this morning and there was some live-sounding church broadcast. I'm not religious, so I'll chalk it up to appealing to a diverse crowd of college students.

This is mainly a classic rock station, and the DJs are professional and knowledgeable about the music, they seem to really know their stuff. They play some deep tracks that you don't hear on other classic rock stations, and have some good commentary. Since it's classic rock, I guess I don't hear too many new songs. That's the trouble with classic rock. I've at least heard of nearly every artist on here. Some of the things that they consider classic rock make me feel old. I like the fact that they don't have very many commercials on here, especially compared to other stations.

My art would appear instantly on the monitor in front of me along with comments and questions from our 5000 worldwide listeners.(As if we planned it in advance- NOT! We were doing LIVE tarot readings) The staff were picking it off my website and dropping it into the chatroom. Coolest ever!!! If you ever wanted to develop a live forum- check out 24-7.
