What has happened with this station, while I do like Bob Sirott and John Williams, what is what with all the promos for Lisa Dent, or why does she has to say her name? And even she is tied with David Hochberg to be the 2 most annoying personalities on the station for local hosts. And even you start hearing his commercials where he asks David Jennings who his guests going to be. I hope the local personalities are enjoying show time while they can, as less than a month, Dave Eanet will be retuning with another season of Northwestern Football, then basketball once their season gets going, then Chicago Bears will return for another season, which meats the return of Hamp and O'B doing their pre and post game shows, and once Chicago Blackhawks start their season, plus they will be picking up Chicago White Sox's games when they come in conflict with the Chicago Bears games. And then picking up The Verdict with Ted Cruz, is WLS AM or The Answer too busy to be the Chicago radio affiliate for the show on Sunday nights to air it? Ted Cruz has to be spreading Republican lies, and making Donald Trump sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread. read more

The daytime hosts are entertaining but the late night hosts are syndicated extremists. Really hard to listen to their spewing, especially wgn's Sunday night shows. All filled with disappointment and hatred filled hosts and callers. Lots of complaining but no solutions. I recommend only listening to wgn from 6am to 9pm. Four stars from me, as of July 2022. Not too bad, overall. Better than it was a few years back, when the afternoon drive was non-entertaining. The folks on board now are actually good hosts and personalities, if you give them a chance. It's a station leaning right, politically, so you may not agree with much of what is said - especially if you are a liberal or Democrat. But you can't argue that Bob Sirott and John "Records" Landecker are legends, "Outside the Loop" is truly one of the most interesting shows currently on the air, and shows like Rollye James and Jim Bohannon at least try to discuss a wide range of issues and topics from all sides of the coin. read more

I enjoyed walking by WGN Radio when we were in Chicago recently. They are located at the Tribune Tower near Pioneer Court. Through the window, it was cool to see them broadcasting inside. Also nice that the show was broadcast to the outside of the building for all to hear. Nice photo opp for tourists like me. read more

In the past I have listened to or had the radio on about 18-20 hours a day, not anymore. This past week I've made a change to my line up too. I now turn it on at 9a and off at 12 noon; I love John Williams. I might listen a little to Nick but mostly I sleep to it. When they fired Bill and Wendy they fired me! Cutting Dean on Sunday is a really bad idea. I love the Business Lunch with Steve Bertrand and now that's gone too, I won't listen to the replacement, it makes no sense for her to do that show. Steve's clever banter with King John was the best and now they've lost an hour together. Cochran is an overrated know it all blowhard (although I love that he has to be in at 5am). No one wants 2 hours of Anna. Sorry. Where is Brian Noonan? He was entertaining, but then why do that? Lastly if I wanted 2+ hours of Old Blue Eyes I'd ask Alexa to play it, I will never, ever do that nor listen to David Plier's show. Bringing the old jingles back is a sad, sad idea, what would make you think that would work? Who needs to be reminded of 20 years ago? This may bring on some hate mail, but I'm just calling this one as I see it: I'm not a Cubs fan and I'm under 65 years old. I've never been to Door County... so WGN really has nothing to offer to me. I've tried it on multiple occasions when driving all over suburbia for work, and have never once been drawn in by any of their discussions. The Cubs broadcasts are really grating- I have nothing but respect for Ron Santo and his accomplishments as a player and for overcoming his disability, but he's really hard to listen to. I am not exactly sure how 'gn can receive five stars. Brainwashed cubs fans? I like Spike O'Dell and really like Steve Cochran, but the rest of the station reminds me of the Navy Pier of Radio Stations, very touristy. Its like listening to cotton candy. They plug their own programming and teams as if they are the only quality for thousands of miles around. Williams is kind of awe shucks and pompous at the same time. Their sports seem to be right out of the broadcast manual. They have good sportscasters, but the direction they go in seems to pander too much to a general audience. They really need to get rid of Ron Santo. He never has any idea what is going on and is basically a cheerleader and not a broadcaster. Their coverage of NU sports is very good. I love Dave Eanet's enthusiasm while still being very knowledgeable about the game.Ted Albrecht is very concise and informative on FB and Sean Morris is able to bring a great wit and still teach you something for hoops. Probably the least favorite pre-programmed station on my car's AM dial. Save for Cubs games, there is really nothing for me here. I think Pat W summed it up well, I'm neither over 65 nor from Door County and as such, the station, the programs and its personalities bore me to tears. I also agree w. Pat W about Ron Santo. Great player and probably an even better individual person to be honest, but his commentary and analysis of Cub's games is severely lacking and borderline inexcusable, especially the last few seasons. FFS, the man is getting to be absolutely batty in the booth (no pun intended;) and driving me much the same when listening to his perpetual on-air antics and near heart attacks with every Cubs near hit or missed play. Those who listen to Cubs radio know what i'm talking about and although at times it can be funny, it just gets to be a bit much when it happens as incessantly as it does. I think he needs to hang up his radio cleats (and mic) and call it a day...give some new, fresh and revitalized folks a shot. This used to be our favorite radio station. We were exasperated when they removed Cathy and Judy and brought John Williams back to replace them. We enjoy Steve Cochran, but, now, he leaves the air at 9, again, with John Williams coming on at 9, and taking over Bill and Wendy's spot from 10 to noon. This is a station that has already thrown in the towel. It deterioration from a legacy station to a local station more suited for The Villages in Orlando is both deeply disturbing and deeply disappointing. Some of the programming boggles the mind, such as six hours on the Indy 500 (on the radio?) and the Sinatra Hour on Sunday mornings (have you heard of Spotify?) and endless mock interviews and weekly visits with individuals representing companies with commercial interests tied to the stations advertising, it's like the Home Shopping Network, a bare-faced case of lipstick on the pig. With so many other options for information and entertainment, from Podcasts to Sirius XM and more, offering a range of challenging views and stimulating subject matter, why aren't the owners of WGN adapting to the 21st century and trying to capture listeners beside the narrow geriatric demographic. The canned and syndicated, the replays and the banal 'stocking stuffers,' and the ceaseless broadcasting on home repairs and financial security leads to a grinding boredom. And really, the late hour conservative host, and his call-ins, traffic in such vile misinformation and vicious hate mongering, it's bordering on shocking a radio station of WGN's stature and at-least-on-the-surface political neutrality tolerates such claptrap. read more

THANK YOU WGN for bringing back Steve Cochrane! I was beyond dismayed when you let him go and so overjoyed that you brought him back... 2nd... as happy as I am, I was SO enjoying Jonathon Brandmeier in the mornings... I'd missed him from my teen years and having him on WGN was pretty awesome, wish I could have had him and Steve, but I'll take what I can get. 3rd... Thank you for not messing with perfection and leaving Garry Meier were he was! He's great on the afternoon drive and I don't know what I would have done if you moved him. As I write this, it's opening pre-season play for my beloved Cubbies. I am so excited I can hardly stand it! If Ron and Pat (both of whom are perfect) were on the air all the time, every day, I would be as happy as a clam. I don't really listen to anything other than the Cubs' broadcasts, but those alone - it's radio perfection. What is wrong with the new owners of WGN??? Did they put any thought at all into the cast changes? I used to enjoy listening to the Steve Cochran show every morning because it was entertaining and the team had good chemistry. They talked easily to each other and although it wasn't all gold, it was fun to listen to. I have nothing against Bob Sirott, but it sounds like he is just reading to his audience and his personal comments fall flat. The show has become boring and I will find a different station. I also cannot believe that Bill and Wendy are gone! They were so great together! They were funny, entertaining and kept me laughing. Nexstar, you really messed up. read more

To me, WGN radio is as good as it gets in the talk radio industry. Back in 2009, programming management began booting and shuffling hosts around to try and create a new image. While Mike McConnell isn't that great, Garry Meier is a wonderful afternoon host and a longtime Chicago personality. Jonathon Brandmeier and Bill Leff are Chicago radio legends in their own right. And who couldn't love Milt Rosenberg, the professor emeritus who hosts late nights on the station. The Cubs, Blackhawks, and Northwestern Wildcats also broadcast their games on WGN. There are still a few problems that WGN may need to fix. Mike McConnell has no Chicago background (700 WLW/Cincinnati), and has a political view that needs to go. WGN Sports Night can get a bit dicey when David Kaplan is off, and it turns into another talk show. Brian Noonan, Lou Manfredini, Dean Richards, Nick Digilio, Sunday Night Radio Special, and Sports Central are all excellent programs to listen to. I would highly recommend 720 WGN to anyone! read more

Until last year, I was a regular listener to WGN. I go wayyyyy back to listening to Wally Phillips and Franklin McCormick. I am very disappointed in the changes WGN made. Some of the hosts such as Steve Cochran and Patty Vasquez are too one-sided and political. When they're on, I change to another station. I want to listen to fair discussions if politics are involved. The only programs I now listen to are the old-time radio programs and Nick Digilio. I like shows that don't involve politics. If I want to listen to that topic, there are many other radio and TV stations that concentrate on that. I also like Dean Richards on Sunday mornings. read more

I grew up listening to WGN and remember Wally Phillips and listening for the name of our school on a snow day. When I came back to Chicago after college, I started listening again and have followed WGN through the years . I always thought of WGN as Chicago's radio station. Whenever you wanted to find out what was really going on around town and in the neighborhoods, you'd find it on WGN. For the most part, I think that they are still true to that mission and hope they never give up on that part. I understand the need to change personalities to the demographic although I think changing Steve and Johnnie was a mistake.The new guy is good but Steve and Johnnie had a real 3rd shift program and alot of good features. I loved their new music Mondays. Garry Meyer is the best addition. He has a great show and I can never seem to turn him off. there's always something more interesting or funny coming up. Johnny B has to step up his game. For the first two weeks, I could barely hear him because it sounded like he had a microphone from Kmart. I genuinely like Brandmeier but he has to get in his groove. Stop repeating so much and sound a little bit more like a grown-up than a whiny kid. We've all grown up a little bit since the 80's. Garry Meyer has that part mastered. He's funny and irreverent but doesn't come off sounding like an idiot. John Williams is really good but I don't get to listen to him or MikeMcConnell that often . The best thing about WGN radio is their news, weather and sports. Steve Bertrand is my favorite. He's insightful and funny. Whenever something is going on in Chicago, I always, turn on WGN radio news first. I would recommend listening to WGN to any newcomer to Chicago if you want a true taste of what's going on here and what the real people of the city are talking about. read more

Cathy and Judy show 9am- Noon. AM 720. Best talk radio at this time slot. I like NPR a lot, but it can sometimes be dry and boring. When it is, I switch over to these girls. It's often women's issues but Lot's of men listen and call in. I find them addictive. Ladies, please check it out. You will love them. The morning program with Jonathon B. is poor radio. He continually repeats himself and never gives his guests time to express themselves. Thanks for getting rid of Greg Jarret as all he did was argue with his guests. Bring back Bill Lef---he listens to what his guests have to say and can carry on an adult conversation. Also you should strongly consider bringing back Steve Cochran. He was definitely one of your best. I've listened to WGN for over 30 years - primarily the morning program. I was disappointed in the recent change to the "Opening Bell" from 5am to 6am, as that's when I'm getting ready in the morning and therefore listen to the radio.
