Said differently, I felt like a kid in a shaved ice store. Ice Ice Baby serves desserts with bold, fresh and sweet and spicy flavors. This San Antonio go-to shop is known for its shaved ice and Mexican inspired treats that are packed with fresh fruit, chamoy, chili powder, Tajín, and candy toppings, all made to order and can be customized to your liking. They have many colorful pictures of dessert options, you can feel a bit overwhelmed. The menu offers a dessert options such as classic raspas (Mexican style shaved ice) and Italian ice to popular items like mangonadas (mango based slushy or shaved ice dessert), fruit cups, and corn in a cup. The shaved ice was smooth and refreshing, with vibrant fruit flavors that taste extremely fresh. Whether you go all fruit, candy loaded, or extra spicy, the portions are generous and are well worth the price. I chose the Mango Bear with Italian ice. The mangos were fresh and sweet. Also, the Italian ice was so smooth it felt like eating sorbet. Great first-time experience... Inside, the shop is clean, colorful, and welcoming...a perfect place to cool off from the Texas heat. Bright yellow picnic tables line the inside of the shop. The vibe was casual and family-oriented. The ice has that perfect crunchy texture, and the flavors actually taste strong all the way through. They don't water anything down and they're not stingy with the syrup either. What really makes this place special is the nostalgia. Pulling up here feels the same as it did when I was a kid, especially on a hot day. It's one of those local spots that's been doing it right for years and never fell off. And somehow, they've kept their prices pretty much the same over the years super affordable, which you don't see much anymore. They've also got a variety of amazing snacks like pepinos, sundaes, botanas, and corn in a cup, so it's not just snow cones, you've got options depending on what you're craving. Me personally, I always go with a Picadilly snowcone with everything on it and a pepino on the side, get it sour, it tastes amazing. That combo never misses. The service is always quick and friendly, and the whole vibe is just chill and real. No extras needed they've already perfected what they do. If you grew up around here, you probably already know about Chris N Kids. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out.
