Local Bandera Gem!!! My family and I came here on a Tuesday night around 7:30 pm. We parked in their small parking which is shared with other businesses but there were plenty of spot open. Walking inside the music is loud but plays good hip-hop/pop gems, probably to satisfy its younger clientele. Ice Ice baby serves mainly savory/spicy/sweet Mexican-inspired treats using natural fruit, Lucas, Tajín, chamoy, and other gummy/spicy toppings to enhance any treat for a customers personal preference. Their wall behind the creation station features images and names of their products offered which makes it very helpful for any customers unfamiliar with these types of treats. The two young ladies working were both friendly, efficient, and great multi taskers. They explained options very well, and very considerate when helping my older family make their choices of sweets. We decided to try both sweet and savory treats to share amongst my family so we got to try as much as we could. The corn in a cup was by far my favorite choice as I ordered it spicy with Taki-dust and had lots of other chili pepper spice and good creamy mayo for a delicious taste and amazing texture. Yum!! The Italian ice was very smooth with great fruit flavor that was not an overpowering sweetness. The pineapple treat (piñanada) was also a very fresh/sweet/spicy choice with lots of sliced pineapple, good amounts of Lucas and chamoy drizzled across the top, we added some spicy fruit bands for more chewy texture. The price after tax and tip were not too bad, I think the presentation, serving amounts, and fresh ingredients were all very much worth the value. Tbh I don't know how more people don't know about ice ice baby and their snack stand... it's by far the best place to get Snacks (specifically Tex-Mex snacks) in San Antonio. No one puts together mangonadas, sandianadas, sweet Sandias, and fresas con crema like them. They take so much time and pride when working with your order. So picture perfect and presentable. They also put small half paper plates around the side of your desserts if they have chucks of fruits etc., that way everything stays intact. I hate when my Chamoy or Italian ice starts dripping down and causes a big mess (common problem with preparations of other snack stands) the plates ensures everything is sturdy and in place. The owner is SO awesome, she was patient and helped me weed out what I wanted when everything sounds good lol. Ice Ice Baby also has mini versions of any "sweet" or "nada" dessert which is highly uncommon and makes me visit their location over any other snack stands hand down. Normally I don't want anything big, just something small for my craving and the minis are perfect! I stopped in with a friend upon her recommendation. I normally order Mangonadas but today I was wanting to switch it up. I opted, instead, for a Sweet Fresanada. It is layers of strawberry ice (I wouldn't say ice cream because it's more like a fresh-fruit sherbet consistency) alternating with cream & whipped cream, topped with fresh strawberries. Delicious! I also selected a large cucumber lime Agua Fresca. I was surprised to see that they make them fresh upon order. It was SO good and definitely refreshing. They have many flavors or agua frescas, so they're sure to have something you might fancy. My friend was feeling something a little less sweet, so she opted for a Mangonada & added chopped dill pickles on-top. She called this concoction a Mangodilly. They have a Pickledilly on the menu but it involves pickle ice instead of scoops of mango ice. She said it was very good and that the slices of mango on top were very tender and sweet. They had a pretty good selection of different options and even have blue bell ice cream. There are definitely some other choices I would like to go back and try. There are also a few hot food options, such as, spicy Cheetos with nacho cheese & nachos, if you're not in an ice cream mode. A friend ordered the pickles and hot Cheetos for a super sour and spicy treat, I split a Sugar Monster with my boyfriend. It was three scoops of ice cream topped with strawberries, marshmallows, chocolate syrup, sandwich cookies, and a small powdered donut. It's served in a plastic cup and some paper plates inside the top to get more room. Not Instagram worthy, but so delicious. The big dessert was under $10. We both were full by the end. My little corner of northwest side San Antonio is growing! I'm very excited to have an ice cream shop walking distance from my home. I'm not sure how long they have been open, but I just noticed it a couple of weeks ago. I came in with my dad and his friend tonight to try it out. We were greeted very nicely and were helped right away. The shop seemed to have a pretty steady flow of people cycling through--a good sign! They have a lot of choices for ice cream and other treats. I ordered a cone with cookies and cream ice cream. It was served in a purple cone (very cute by the way). Here's my one suggestion: I'd like to see a menu that is easier to read. As it stands now, the menu is a little difficult to comprehend because instead of listing the product and stating the price, it has a picture of the product and the price next to it. It seems typical of every other place in the area, so I'd like to see more innovation in terms of products, but they're still new and there is room to grow! I'm excited to come here more often and order more things. I really need to judge the place on their raspas because Sam's Snack Stand is my favorite right now, so I'll have to see how they stack up. Came here this week to check out the hype I seen by searching instagram. I will say, it's a cute lil spot and has friendly, energetic employees, and a Clean environment which is always good. But, let's face it. We aren't here to just read about how clean a place is. Or how friendly employees can be. We want to know about the goods, the prices, and if it really lived up to its hype. In my opinion this place just didn't. Which was a bummer. It was around $40 for ice cream, a fruit mangonada and corn in a cup. For me it was just OK, definitely not worth my drive out there, or the amount we paid. I don't feel like it had enough flavor, and that is hard to believe, because it is fruit with Chamoy and Tajin. The mangoes were a bit off tasting to me. But the rest of the fruit was fine. I feel it needed more maybe of both chamoy and tajin? I don't know. I mean it looked really good, and I really wanted to like it! But it just wasn't what I expected. Italian ice was pretty good though. You get a couple of scoops of that along with the fruit. All in all... 1) Would I go to this place again? No. 2) Would I recommend this place to someone I know? No. I have had better. At a better cost. And closer to me. I'll stick with that instead. Yummmmm Cup of fruit was what I would've expected, but I like that they have an additional chili powder section to add to your items. That's a plus, because my husband likes it spicy! Shaved ice looked exactly like the photo (great job on keeping it real!) and it tasted amazing! My kids enjoyed it! Mangobear has Mango Ice cream, chamoy, and gummy bears. The mango ice cream was probably the best quality I have ever tasted, like EVER, because it had chunks of mango in it. The combination was complimentary and definitely like how they layered it for equal parts. Great job! This was a refreshing delight since we walked did touristy things like the Alamo, Riverwalk and Rivercenter. It was a busy, humid and hot day.
