After a few months of planning, watching Youtube videos on installing wood floors and trying to convince my wife, cooler heads prevailed. So I sucked up my pride and called in the three top recommended Flooring companies in Minneapolis. Our job was a little unique (in my mind), because it involved replacing some cherry wood boards in the high traffic zones and sanding and refinishing the floors in the low traffic areas. I received three quotes as well as did quite a bit of research online and with friends. One friend went through a big box store and in my mind didn't quite get the deal I was looking for. The best quote and most straight forward contractor was a guy from Rhodes Hardwood named Dusty. I trust contractors about as far as I can throw them, which at last attempt was halfway across a job site. However, Dusty seemed honest and straight forward. The wife and I both felt like he wasn't trying to sell us on a larger job scope, but he was more than willing to stay inside the budget and requests. We didn't want to redo the whole house, and he didn't pressure us to do so. We ended up sanding and refinishing more than I expected just to get a great blended look, and the work looked great and we were able to keep more floor than expected. I included a picture of the transitional zone. He even told us "he wasn't going to charge extra for the extra work." Although I wish I could say that I was man enough to refinish my old wood floors like an HGTV pro, I suppose a guy with a happy wife is even more of a star.

The did an excellent job and completely changed the look of my house. My wife and I are elated with our second floor now. I really appreciated the online estimate calculator on their website as well as the ability to email pictures and dimensions for more accurate estimations rather than scheduling an in-home estimate. I performed some prep work myself (removing prior floor coverings and baseboard trim) which helped save a bit of money. The job cost a little less than I thought it would and in my opinion was an excellent value. I highly recommend these guys.

Joe inspected our prospective home before purchase on 4/14/17. Joe is a really 'nice guy' but I…read morequestion his thoroughness and accuracy. I gave him the benefit of doubt when he fell through the ceiling of the garage attic. I assumed thoroughness from the amount of time (almost 3 hours) he spent on inspection and explanation. However, upon review of his Inspection Report and eventually moving into newly purchased home, multiple issues were noted. The inspection report listed an initial statement of "My view was limited because of the snow cover. There were various components on the exterior that were not visible due to snow cover, such as grading of the land, landscaping, walkways, driveways, etc." This is false. 4/14/17 was a surprisingly warm day for that time of year and the snow had been long gone, replaced by green grass. My wife and I arrived in shorts and t-shirts! Next, the inspection report stated that "The basement was completely finished. The concealed components could not be inspected, such as the basement floor, foundation walls, floor structure, etc." This is false. The basement is half finished and the other half is poured concrete slab and foundation walls. He even commented on Fiberglass insulation needing to be upgraded around rim if this area, yet "it's completely finished." During the final walk through I noticed light in garage attic and found a gap between shingles and interior attic that fingers could pass through. When I contacted Joe about this and any guidance his response included "Of course we knew there'd be gaps." Yet it wasn't noticed or included in inspection visit or report. Most importantly, the report stated that "There were no visible signs of moisture in the basement." However, shortly after purchasing and moving in we noticed water pooling in basement after rainfall. This brought our attention to other water stained areas in basement. Further, it led us to discover a vertical crack on the interior/exterior of poured concrete foundation wall that was letting in water. A closer look outside and sure enough a vertical crack about 1/8th - 3/16th inch wide. Now my wife and I are by no means home inspectors. That's why we put our faith in Joe as a licensed inspector. But, how are we able to notice these things and he is not. I'm pretty sure an inspector is trained to have a keen eye for foundation and water concerns. Now we own the home, had water enter basement for second time and are awaiting estimate/inspection from basement/foundation specialist which is 2-3 weeks out. It might be worth taking a chance and your money with someone else who doesn't have this in their history with customers.

Suzanne is detailed, quick to respond (even on the weekend, I found!), and carried us along in the process. We were able to schedule the appointment in perfect timing for our inspection period. Brian is thorough, knows codes exceptionally well, and is willing (albeit at a respectful distance during COVID) to take you through his inspection step-by-step, answer questions, and offer advice within reasonable parameters. The process prior to the inspection outlines the stipulations of the inspection, what is possible and what is not possible (such as when accessing a sealed attic, which is not possible if it is sealed). The report that Brain develops makes him stand out from other home inspectors. It is comprised of labeled photos, with digital markups, and many, many written pages on issues that came up during the inspection, details on areas where he was not able to provide a full inspection (such as invading by cutting into a wall), and plenty of details on how to proceed once (and if) you become the homeowner. That, and the massive 300-page book he (might!) give you on how to operate your home from top to bottom, makes his service very worthwhile. We are also glad we ordered the Radon test, as the results showed us we need to act on it when we move in! Overall the inspection has given us great confidence in making a purchase on our home.
