It is situated on the edge of town, across from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, which is where I was headed after my stay. It's within 5 minutes of Lake Winona and about 10 minutes from downtown. My room had two twin beds, which was fine. The entire place was incredibly well kept and clean. I will definitely be back!

Cost effective and a solid alternative to flying or driving.

Trains run alongside the river quite frequently, but didn't wake us up because the doors and windows must be new and well-sealed. The hosts let you come and go as you please, and are welcoming and willing to talk about the area and things to do there. Breakfast was AOK. While you're in the neighborhood, check out the bike trails (the local bike store, Blue Heron, has maps and sells trail passes). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a good public beach (that we knew of), so we had to trespass to take a dip (oops!). Sullivan's Supper Club is within a mile of the B&B and worth a jaunt for dinner, but the Trempealeau Hotel is within shorter walking distance and is open late.

What a great place to stay. Stayed in cabin 3, right in the middle of the cottages. A beautiful, tall tree gave us shade and such beauty.....we're from AZ and tall trees are somewhat uncommon. The cabin was clean and very well stocked. W bought food for the time there, but everything else was supplied. We had a family gathering there the Sunday before departure and everything was furnished to accommodate the crowd, even a crock pot for my bean and hamburger dish. Fishing was something my husband wanted to do, and he did with the time he had. There are several fishing spots nearby. He was happy to have caught a few fish. In addition, the staff was amazing to work with. Everyone was accommodating, helpful, and kind. We have a wonderful place to stay from now on.....no more cookie-cutter hotels for us!

I picked a lake on the map that looked to be about halfway and then relied on google to find me a place that was near the lake. Cozy Corner Cottages popped up. I reviewed their website and it seemed to be okay but I found very little in the form of actual guest feedback so I really wasn't sure what to expect and had set my mind to expect very little. We were very pleasantly surprised. When we drove up to the property it was nice to see that it was very clean and well-maintained. The cottages were really cute and each cottage had it's own little yard that included a firepit, a grill and a picnic table. The interior of the cottage was much more roomy than I expected. It was clean, well-stocked, nicely furnished and very comfortable. There was even a television with quite a few channel choices. The kitchen has a toaster, toaster oven, refrigerator, and two-burner stove with lots of cooking equipment. The bonus for this family is the well-maintained pool that is directly in front of the cabin. Our kids were in paradise the entire three day stay with the pool to themselves (highly likely with only five cabins). The pool was warm and had an abundance of great comfortable seating, umbrellas and fun pool floaties, rafts and toys. There is also a small playground right next to the pool. When we arrived there was nobody in the office but they left the cabin open and I checked-in later in the day. Melissa is an amazing host. She offered us all kinds of information on what to do and checked-in with us when she would see us out and about to make sure things were going well. The grounds as mentioned are very clean and well-maintained and the little lagoon near the property leading into the lake (although quite gnarly and not swimmable) was set up beautifully and made for a very relaxing place to sit. We took one of the boats out and although it is a bit of a trek (or paddle) to get to the lake it's doable and was a nice way to spend an afternoon. We spent a couple of nights roasting marshmallows and playing with their lawn games which you can borrow and set up near your cottage (ladder ball, cornhole, etc.) Although there were others in the four adjacent cabins we truly felt like we were alone and in our own little world. The place is relaxing, hospitable and very much like a home away from home. Highly recommend.

In most places when you will cross the Mississippi River and journey from one state to another…read more Here in La Crosse, this section of the river is entirely in Wisconsin and you won't be at the border to Minnesota for another mile or so. There are two spans here, with the upriver (westbound) being the Cass Street Bridge and the downriver (eastbound) is the Cameron Avenue Bridge. They connect downtown La Crosse with Barron Island. It is only when you are on the La Crosse West Channel Bridge and you go from Barron Island to cross into La Crescent Minnesota. The Cass Street Bridge (the one that I drove heading west) opened in 1939 and replaced a swing bridge that was damaged in 1935. It is a cantilever bridge 17 panel rivet-connected warren through truss with a a total length of 2532 feet and a width of 30 feet. There is 67 feet of clearance below to the Mississippi. It is paired with the Cameron Avenue bridge that is more modern and opened in 2004. If you're here, do check out the deck truss approach spans which are curved. Another interesting feature is the stairways that are midway along the approach spans at each end of the bridge and allow pedestrians to climb up to the bridge sidewalk. The western stairway includes a crossover stairway that passes under the deck truss allowing pedestrians to switch which sidewalk they are walking on without walking across the roadway. I would post pics showing what it looks like but no photography is allowed. I thought the one woman was going to bat my phone out of my hand when I took it out to take a pic. It is 2019; 80 year old grandmothers have smartphones with cameras. If it's about flash photography, say so and let me take pics without the flash. Otherwise, a restriction on photography gets you an immediate downvote in my book. 2. You see three rooms and you can't even go in and look around, it's all roped off. 3. None of the guides knew anything beyond their script. Anytime anyone asked a question they said they didn't know the answer. Why are you working here if you don't know half the questions people are asking? Beautiful house, what you can see of it. I got in free with a tour but based on my time there today would never pay to go inside.
