I have never had hip pain before in my life. They must have been getting very rough on me when I was under anesthesia. I went to St Mark's 2 times before, and they never caused me hip pain. It has been more than 6 months and I am still having hip pain.

When I scheduled the…read moreappt, I was told they do a prior authorization to see exactly what my insurnace will pay and what's on me. When I arrived the day of my procedure, they were absolutely not certain of the costs, therefore, didn't really seem like they talked to my insurnace beforehand at all, like they said they would. The day of the procedure, I was told I would likely have $250 to pay outside of insurance. Okay, great, that's not too bad. However, I wanted to ensure that was the correct amount due to their sense of uncertainty, so I put off my procedure for about an hour to go talk to billing to ensure I wouldn't end up with a large surprise bill that I couldn't pay afterwards. Billing was 0 help and they couldn't care less for my concerns and the fact that I told them I'm low income and can't manage a surprise bill. They got me very flustered and stressed right before my procedure. They didn't care. I was told it shouldn't be much more than $250 and not to worry. So I decided to just move forward with the procedure, which I regret more than anything. Lo and behold, a short while after my procedure, I received a bill in the mail for $250 and then another for $730!!!! My fears came true! They were not transparent about the reality of how high the extra costs could be. I did everything to avoid it and it still happened because of the billing people misguiding me and not caring to investigate it further to ensure the true costs. Not to mention, the procedure didn't do anything for me or give any answers and the treatment at the place was mid in general. I'm still having all the same issues I started going there to address. So now I have a huge bill to pay that I can't pay and over the month of November they add TWO late fees! Two in one month really? I'm low income, and talked to them telling them I was going to need more time to pay it and they just proceed to add more late fees. They don't work with you at all. Today, only about 4 months out from the procedure, I received a bill in the mail stating that if I didn't pay the bill in 10 days (actually 6 days due to when I received the bill in the mail- took 4 days to get here from the date marked on it) then they will send it to collections and I will be charged a 50% fee. I've never heard of a debt going to collections that fast, and definitely never heard of a late fee that's that excessive when only 4 months late (it's not like it had been 6+ months of them not being paid). Scare tactics, really? So this is how you're treated when you can't afford to pay for a surprise bill that you tried to avoid up front but got no where because of the lack of care and knowledge from the billing department, and after they were already paid good money from the insurance company. No accountability or empathy at all. I wouldn't recommend this place, not only because of the billing departments lack of compassion and empathy, but also because of all the money I spent just to get 0 answers and to get better 0%. Such a waste. This is what's wrong with healthcare! Based on the other negative reviews that are somewhat similar to mine, I know my experience will be brushed off by management and I will be gaslit like the other reviewers that have had negative experiences have been. Management, I recommend for you and your staff to receive some sensitivity training and always run prior authorization beforehand. Give the patient as much info as possible and show a sense of concern and willingness to help. Myself and other patients have given you insight on how you can improve, now it's up to you to take accountability and make the necessary changes to do so. There's nothing else to say here. Patients beware!!!!!! Updated to add: just four days after making this review, I received an additional letter AFTER they already got paid by me. It was dated just 4 days from the letter warning me of the balance going to collections. So they gave me 4 days and sent another letter, AND added an additional late fee. After I already paid the balance. What a joke.

This experience happened over a month ago and I have reflected and still felt the need to post :…read more My mother, who has stage 4 cancer, was admitted to Alta View after we left another emergency department due to excessive wait times. The initial intake experience at Alta View was positive -- the staff member who checked us in was kind, efficient, and compassionate. Unfortunately, the level of care declined significantly after admission. While my mother was not physically harmed, there were repeated instances where she was made to feel like a burden rather than a patient deserving dignity and support. During the day, family members were present to advocate for her. At night, when we relied on staff, her emotional and basic care needs were often overlooked. To be fair, there were some nurses who provided excellent care, which suggests this is not an issue of individual staff capability, but rather a systemic problem related to management, communication, and hospital policies. A particularly concerning experience involved the attending physician, whose bedside manner was lacking and, at times, inappropriate. He attributed my mother's denial for transfer to a nursing facility to her refusal of two therapy sessions during a two-week stay. This explanation failed to consider the context: she had acute gastrointestinal symptoms and had often just completed one therapy session when another provider arrived, indicating poor coordination between care teams. We also requested emotional support resources for my mother, who lost her husband less than a year ago and is coping with advanced cancer. The response was limited to a paper being dropped off in her room, with no meaningful follow-up or connection to services. Obtaining assistance with Medicaid application required repeated requests. It was only after I personally escalated the issue to a charge nurse -- who then persistently followed up -- that any action was taken. Operational issues also impacted care. The cafeteria closes at 8 PM, leaving patients who miss ordering time with limited and unsuitable food options, particularly problematic for those with nausea or digestive conditions. The discharge process was confusing and poorly communicated. We were initially told to prepare to leave without adequate planning for a safe placement. It was only after I questioned whether discharge could be enforced that we learned we could remain until appropriate arrangements were made. Discharge paperwork was delivered without discussion, and we had to proactively confirm whether it was safe to leave. Finally, during discharge transport, it was discovered that my mother's port had not been de-accessed. This resulted in a prolonged and distressing situation where staff appeared uncertain about proper procedure, causing unnecessary discomfort. This experience took place during an already extremely difficult period for our family. Hospitals play a critical role not only in clinical treatment but in preserving patient dignity, especially for those facing life-limiting illness. While there were individual staff members who showed genuine care, the overall experience reflected significant breakdowns in communication, coordination, and patient-centered support. I am sharing this in hopes that leadership will address these systemic issues so that other families navigating serious illness are not left feeling they must constantly advocate for basic standards of care.

Dr. Skanchy was the first stop on my list of possibilities and after meeting with him, as well as his amazing staff, I wasn't impressed with any other practice! The receptionists are always friendly, helpful and organized. I've dealt with the finance department a few times now. The first when we crunched the original numbers for treatment (before I committed to them). Next- when we signed the contract and agreement and paid, then once again when we had an insurance change about a year into the treatment. It has truly been a pleasure dealing with all of the amazing ladies who work for the Doctor, even the billing department! I say women simply because I've yet to see male employees around the office. The office is always super clean, has ample seating in the lobby, a beautiful aquarium, video games for the kiddos or whomever, and the usual, tv and magazines, etc. Unlike many orthodontist and even dentist offices I have seen, this one is definitely a lot more private! Usually, you will see rows and rows of chairs lined up, so all the patients are in one big room. At Dr. Skanchy's practice, they have separate and individual sections, kind of like rooms where the work is done. I always prefer this type of set up, as I feel it's more personal, less distracting and simply more professional. When we've had emergency situations come up, such as a wire coming off a bracket, etc. they're always quick to get us in, often the same day. They are pretty accommodating to schedules, my only gripe, is the doctor isn't in the office on Friday. However, you can still get some things taken care of, so it's usually not an issue. They aren't overpriced like some of the other practices I met with, yet, they offer better service. Dr. Skanchy is super friendly too, I always enjoy chatting with him, he's very thorough, as well. The office also offers a discount, 10%, if you're paying the total amount up front (cash), so you can save quite a bit of money with this option. We've been coming here for over a year and I'm still always impressed with their genuinity, friendliness, professionalism, and convenience. I look forward to continue working with these wonderful people!

I appreciate their effectiveness, but willingness to treat me as an individual. Dr Raj has always remembered me since the very beginning. He knew personal things about me and always brought them up. They are quick and efficient, but I have never felt like a number being pushed through the conveyor belt like I have at other doctors (like an OB when I was pregnant- that was sad!!) Dr Raj often jokes and makes me feel more comfortable during procedures or appointments. I feel like he is a friend. He knows what my insurance requires and how to get what I need while using my coverage. Since I've been going for years, I get interested in things they are doing or seeing during procedures so I sometimes ask questions. He is so great to answer things and let me know what is going on. I never feel uncomfortable, even when I'm getting shots in my tailbone and am rather....exposed. He is respectful and professional. Anna, the PA (I think) is awesome too! She is so caring and takes time to talk if you ask. Again, she does have a pattern of the way she asks questions, does the prescriptions, and leaves, but that's just because they see so many people in a day and if there are no other needs, then why not be fast? But I've had her administer trigger point injections or stay and talk during my medication refill appointment. I know she cares and wants what is best for me. She's been honest when I've asked about my future and where my treatment is going. I really appreciate her. Some of the nurses are also memorable and great. At least I think they are nurses. Or assistants of some type. I'm not sure titles. I would know their names if I heard them, but can't recall them all. One, I think Stephanie, loves Batman and has a lot of personality. She is fun and makes me feel comfortable. There is also an older woman who helps with procedures. I always feel a little better when I see her. It means the procedure is close and I'm in good hands. She's funny and very knowledgeable. She takes time to explain what she's seeing as she sets up they X-ray. She has experience as a patient and professional, so she understands what it feels like as well as what is going on. She often makes jokes and is so fun. Together these professionals make me feel welcome and well taken care of. I went to another pain clinic before this and I hated going. I waited forever. The doctors were cold. I was a number. It was terrible. I'm so glad I changed doctors and feel grateful to be a patient here.
