I had a very disappointing experience with Penmar Golf Course because of how management handled a…read moreserious safety incident. On Friday, July 24, I was driving home from work the same route I always take, heading down Dewey St. toward 23rd St., when a golf ball suddenly flew through my back window. The ball completely shattered the window and landed directly in my dog's car seat, sending glass shards everywhere. Thankfully, my dog was not in the car at the time, because this easily could have resulted in a severe injury. I found the golf ball sitting in the car seat after I pulled over. I immediately went to the golf course to report what happened. Unfortunately, the response from the staff was dismissive. I asked to speak with a manager, but was told that "there's an event, so he's busy right now." No one came out to speak with me or even acknowledge the seriousness of what had happened. Instead, they simply took my information and essentially told me to file a claim with the City Attorney and hope I might get reimbursed. Accidents can happen, but customer service and accountability matter. A golf course located next to public streets has a responsibility to take safety concerns seriously, especially when a golf ball leaves the course and causes property damage that could have seriously injured someone. The lack of urgency, empathy, and willingness to address the situation was extremely disappointing. I hope Penmar Golf Course reviews its safety measures along the perimeter of the course and improves how it responds when incidents like this occur. No one should have to worry about a golf ball crashing through their car while simply driving down a public street.

Just completed my Fitting session and Kevin was a pleasure to work with!…read more I only started playing for a little less than 2 years (never took lessons; ~27 handicap) and decided to finally get fitted. Kevin was very easy ongoing and never felt any pressure from him (even as I shanked shots). He was also able to give me some quick tips which increased my ball speed +10 MPH and distance +25 yard!! In the end I did leave feeling comfortable/confident that he put me in the the best clubs which fit my swing. I understood this is a higher end facility and I could've go elsewhere for a cheaper fitting, however I was more focused on fitting quality over price. I do feel I got 100% value for what I paid and would come back again in the future.

He made sure his coaching style FITS me for what I want to accomplish in golf. This is really important to me as I was losing faith in myself despite of taking lessons from numerous coaches. Also, UGP has helped me on improving my body strength for golf in the past two years as well. From my weekly workouts with Matt, I was able to become physically stronger and learn how to generate more power correctly in my swing for more distance. I can see that when I thought I was too hunched over that I wasn't. They have a reputation as being pricey but I didn't' think so at all. It's about results. I've taken lessons before and what I enjoyed most is that I have actual goals and things to work on to improve. We were done by 9:30 despite a 3some infront of use playing just a little slow. That said my pros of this course is a 5! The greens and fairways are well maintained. I'd even say country club level maintenance. Parking was easy enough and the golf carts were in good condition. A drawback but nothing I'm rating it lower for, is the location is right next to LAX and hearing planes taking off and landing can be distracting. It can be loud but not a huge deal. I actually feel it makes this place more unique. The staff me were friendly and nice so another 5 stars for that. I think the only reason I'm not giving a 5 star review is that I can see it backing up. If there was a marshal driving around that would seriously help. My bf Harrison on our very first dates would take me to miniature golf and then later to the American century celebrity golf tournament w/ his daddy-O Jack Wagner. So these PGA tournaments are reminiscent of years past and always feel like home. Tiger woods played this weekend on these grounds. And aside from his personal life, his career is stuff of legends. Cannot wait for next years invitational. I'll volunteer early and have fun making the rounds, following cool players. This country club is tucked into a residential neighborhood. So we were all shuttled in from Santa Monica. It has lovely grounds, and I've never been here prior only to the Newly renovated Bay Theatre here in the Palisades as well. Heroes Golf Course is a place you can get outside to swing the clubs (and now play pickleball on…read morenew courts) -- outside of having a space to hit a golf ball, the rest of the course is a letdown. Tee boxes are turf mats on concrete slabs (which I understand -- tee boxes would be torn up if it was true grass). The "greens" are outrageously bumpy, with patches of dead grass on every one. You'll be lucky to make more than one putt longer than five feet in a round. Overall, I can't knock Heroes for providing a green space for being to whack around a golf ball in the midst of LA, but to me, it's certainly not worth $25 to play a not well-manicured track. If they fixed the greens and made them more like regular golf greens that roll true, this would be a lot more bearable.
