I have nothing but positive things to say about my lessons with Carlos. I had tried lessons elsewhere on a simulator, but for whatever reason it just didn't click. In just four lessons with Carlos I've already seen a significant improvement in my game (with plenty still to work on). Each lesson is a ton of fun, as Carlos has you play holes at the golf course and you actually get live instruction while playing, not just notes at the driving range. I hadn't played golf in several years and I was a bit nervous about my skills coming back to it, but Carlos got me right back to where I was (and then some) in just a few lessons. I was expecting a driving range lesson, as is typical for golf lessons - but he takes you right out onto the course as that is the "true" way to learn golf and he is 10000% right. I don't know why more places don't offer this style of lesson! He teaches you how to play the GAME, not just how to hit a pretty shot off a perfectly flat surface. Carlos' teachings are 'unorthodox' in that a lot of what he says I've never heard instructors say, but it all works! I'm improving so rapidly - cannot recommend enough. read more

Carlos teaches to your individual skill lesson and technique. Within 30 minutes of meeting him and walking through concepts, he had me swinging the club and getting rid of my bad habits. I've been playing golf for a few years but have never taken lessons before. When I go to the range, I'm usually slicing golf balls and wasting money. I'm a 71 year old geezer who took up golf during the Covid pandemic. I taught myself by watching You Tube videos and getting pointers from my friends . If you are a beginner golfer, then you should absolutely sign up to learn with Carlos. I live in west LA and found this business through a Google Search. I had called several places but this is the only class that returned my calls. Booking my first lesson was incredibly easy thanks to the business manager, Pamela. I'm my first lesson, we started out talking about there game, the fundamentals, and grips. Then we stepped on to the first whole and started playing the course. Carlos's philosophy is learning by playing which really launches you straight into the game. We played with the 7 iron, sand wedge, and putter. As a beginner, it is more important to learn the short game before jumping into the drivers. In 1 hour, Carlos gave me a solid introduction to the basics of gameplay. I had my first lesson less than a week ago. Now, I'm on the course nearly every other day! I see Carlos every time I practice at Heroes Golf Course and he always gives me advice on how to improve. He really cares about his students and truly wants you to love the game of golf. Looking forward to my next lesson in 3 weeks! read more

Carlos has been a great teacher for my 12 -year- old son, who sometimes struggles with anxiety. My son has been taking private lessons and has enjoyed every minute and looks forward to returning each week. Carlos has been patient and has a contagious passion for the game of golf. Not only is he a very knowledgeable teacher, but he also imparts character building stories and wisdom that proves to positively effect the minds of young golfers. Just wanted to start off by saying that a three star review doesn't mean bad. It means average. I think that whenever you pay a premium price for a golf lesson ($170) you should rightfully expect a higher level of instruction. So with that in mind, I believe a three star review is more than fair when it came to my lesson. For context, I'm not a good golfer but I can get the ball in the air and generally shoot in the high-80's to mid-90's on the public 18 hole courses here in LA. And honestly, I'm not sure if my expectations were reasonable or unreasonable going into this. I'm hindsight maybe it was the latter. So the lesson went like this... 20-25 minutes of discussion followed by about 20 shots combined with a wedge and short iron. Driver was not in the mix (and I don't know how it could be given the par 3 teaching course but I was told in advance that the instructor teaches driver). I shanked two shots in a row which drew a "nice" from the instructor. Unfortunately he was on his phone and not paying attention and didn't see the poor shots. Overall I left with a couple good nuggets of info (hence the somewhat positive three star review) but otherwise I felt like it was not worth the $170. Thing is, there aren't many options for lessons in central LA. And after a couple lessons from different instructors in the area, I felt as if I was just another transaction passing through. I guess that can happen with the high demand for golf instruction and only a handful of instructors available. I can see how it's easy for an instructor to get complacent. Anyway, it seems like most people leaving reviews had great experiences so maybe mine was an outlier. Or maybe I'm asking for too much. Regardless, I'll be looking outside of central/west LA for more reasonably priced (and hopefully better) lessons in the future. read more

As a teacher, I have pretty high standards when it comes to effective teaching practices AND I hate leaving reviews, so the fact that I'm leaving this review to say that Carlos is an amazing teacher means something. If you're looking to learn how to just hit a ball far, then I'd suggest finding another teacher. However, if you want to learn how to play the game of golf, then Carlos is the guy for you. Carlos teaches on the Heroes Golf Course so you learn as you play, which is initially why I chose the LA Golf Academy for lessons. However, the way Carlos is able to break down the mechanics of a swing, provide feedback/corrections, and incorporate lessons on proper golf etiquette all in one hour is why I decided to stick with him as a teacher. He's also just a great guy which makes learning from him so enjoyable. Though I'd still consider myself a beginner, Carlos is the only reason I feel confident enough to say I'm a golfer now. Also, big shout out to Pamela who coordinates everything off the golf course! Her response time to any form of communication is unrivaled. read more

What a wonderful teacher and person Carlos is !! I had never golfed before. He taught me to golf in seriously one hour just one day before a charity event were I had to play 18 holes! I was able to keep up with the real golfers (playing best ball). I was able to hit the ball most of the time and got it airborne on several occasions. This place is awesome. I always wanted to golf but had no experience, so my mother-in-law bought me some lessons at the LA Golf Academy for Christmas. Scheduling was a snap. The course is nice and everyone was so kind and supportive. Carlos is a fantastic instructor--he's patient, kind, and fun. I took a one-on-one lesson and then took a longer play-through lesson with my wife. The fundamentals were helpful and the swing instruction gave me such a solid foundation. I looked for lessons in Los Angeles and found LA Golf Academy. What made me decide on LA Golf Academy were two things mainly. First, Carlos is a PGA professional, which I considered important because I wanted to learn from a professional rather than an amateur or unlicensed instructor. Secondly, he provides play lessons, which was perfect during the pandemic because I can learn and play while enjoying nature and the outdoors. I preferred that over learning at a range and just hitting balls repetitively. My first lesson turned out great, and I am still learning from Carlos because that experience hasn't changed. He has a clear philosophy and method of teaching, which I enjoy personally. LA Golf Academy is a fantastic golf school. I'm sure they have a plethora of outstanding teachers but we are hooked on a special instructor named Carlos. Carlos is an amazing instructor for children and adults. He calmly and quietly commands the pupil's respect with grace, ease and a natural prowess that is inspirational. I must say that I am a huge fan of his style and high level of professionalism. Of course, I also must mention his extreme talent and knowledge of the technique, game itself and proper behavior on and of the course. He kindly permitted me to tag along on our nine year old daughter's first lesson, and even allowed me to hit a few balls. I was very appreciative since this was her first lesson and rather than leave her to be with a new instructor he welcomed me to join. Kudos for putting a cautious Mom at ease. As a relative newcomer myself, I was impressed with how fun and easy this sport is. I was also impressed with how quickly and successfully I learned. And all I and the others had to do is listen to Carlos's direction. (I have only had one other golf lesson in my life and afterwards had back pain for a week which led me to believe that maybe golf isn't the right sport for me). The LA Golf Academy and Carlos has restored my faith and belief that golf is a great sport for me and my family for our lifetime! That's why we see men and women of all ages golfing. It's important to have an instructor who is excellent and Carlos is that teacher. He is not a coach. He is an articulate and eloquent instructor/teacher. It's essential that your child is willing and able to sit and listen because a large part of this lesson is about the physics of golf, listening to Carlos and being respectful of the other players. I've been a terrible "golfer" for years. I put golfer in heavy quotes as consistently shooting in the low 100's barely qualifies me to use that term. Anyways, I've taken lessons on two separate occasions, but each time the teachings just didn't stick. I might have a decent round or two, but at some point I'd revert back to old habits and begin duffing, shanking, slicing and hooking like it was going out of style. I recently decided I needed to get back to basics - Learn the grip, stance, the swing, and everything in between. Carlos has been instructing me for just under a month and I can say without hesitation the confidence in my stroke is as high as it has ever been. The perfect place to learn golf! I'd picked up a golf club once in my life before starting my lessons with Carlos. He made it all so simple by helping me build up the various stages of my swing so I could understand it. He also provided little exercises to practice too which really helped.
