So if they can trust him, who wouldn't. Kevin did an amazing job making this a fun and comfortable fitting all while dropping his vast knowledge when needed. 5 stars is not enough... I'd like to start by saying I have never publicly reviewed, good or bad, anything or anyone in my life. It's my feeling I guess that the universe generally rewards those who have something good to offer and punishes those who truly suck. All that being said, I do depend on reviews when choosing the places I spend my money so I guess it's time I finally contributed. This review is for UGP's West LA location. Specifically, I need to shout out my golf coach, Luis, and my trainer, Jerry, but everyone I've met at UGP has been very friendly and helpful. I am 37 and have been playing golf for about 7 years. I'm not a professional athlete and I'm not super wealthy but every minute I spent at UGP I was treated like it mattered that I was there. Luis worked tirelessly on my swing and would even come into a lesson saying things like, "I thought about your swing all weekend!" Jerry would sit in on my swing lessons just so he could better understand my swing and my body and use his observations to shape my training program. This is all in a day's work for the crew at UGP. I don't want to share my specific metrics of improvement here because that would be too subjective. All I can say is that I am a better golfer and a better person for joining this gym. In sports at any age, the most important metric in the end is confidence. That's why I really want to stress the atmosphere here over everything else. All the swing data in the world is meaningless if you leave wondering if you should have spent the money on range balls instead... When you're a young person, with so many things changing and happening in your life, it can be very hard to enjoy your sport and hard to improve if you are self-conscious or distracted by other people and things. In my experience, high school coaches, college coaches and parents, however well intended, can put a ton of pressure on their athletes which doesn't always lead to good outcomes. When you walk into UGP, you shed everything else in your life and it turns into this fun laboratory of golf. You're made to feel like everything and everyone in the building is there to figure out the puzzle of your swing. That's confidence. If you're older but don't want to believe that you have nothing left to prove. And you're tired of sitting on your butt watching the tour players or champions league players go at it when you could be out there too, this place treats you like your swing is just as important as the pros. Or if you are just a busy person looking for a place where you can improve your overall fitness at the same time as improving your game, this is the place for you. I've bought multiple packages of classes but since have moved out of the city, so regrettably I can't go as often as I was, but I wanted to give something back to such great place and great business. Evan Flock and the rest of the crew at UGP completely changed the way I look at strength, alignment, fitness, and my body in general. They use amazing technology along with their personal expertise to offer unmatched individual attention that really accesses the root of any physical inhibitions. For me, that was lower back, hip, and knee pain, which I had always looked at as a mystery stemming from the fact that I've been dancing all my life. Evan had me stand on a force plate to uncover my postural imbalances ( which were drastic! ) We used anatomy in motion and neurokinetic therapy to figure out how to bring me back to center through retraining my body's patterns of movement. I've been fortunate enough to work with Chris Dunn (Golf Coach) and Nate Wilson (Fitness). I've seen not only my score improve, but I'm enjoying the game of golf more than ever. What a wonderful oasis in the middle of the muck that is LA. I recently came here for a putter fitting with Matt Mora. Had a great experience and ultimately had him modify my putter (counterweighting) and took a couple of his set-up recommendations to help me roll it better. Small sample size (8 rounds), but I have averaged 32.5 putts since the fitting (with [2] 36-putt efforts) vs. 33.5 putts/round in 2016. I also gifted my friend a driver fitting with Matt and Matt didn't upsell him or anything - he just told him to come back later with a more consistent driver swing. The facilities are great and the experience is top notch (I've taken some of their customer experience protocols for my own business). Let's face it, we're all going to drop $ ($$ or $$$) on golf - whether it's Roger Dunn or eBay, save yourself the time and effort and just come here. read more

As a beginner getting into golf and never taken any type of golf lessons before I was blown away by UGP. Their facilities are state of the art and their approach to the game is second to none. Its a full service shop that isn't just for lessons, they also take into consideration your physical fitness. I have a history of shoulder issue and my first few sessions with Rian Chab taught me some great exercises that help keep that in check. My weekly lessons with Chris Dunn have been a blast. I have noticed a drastic improvement in my golf game. I look forward to my weekly lesson as its always very educational on the science behind golf as well as functional in receiving drills that I can work on. They use an app called Edufii to capture all of these drills so I can always pull them up on my phone when I'm at the range. If you are willing to put in the time and investment into your golf game there really is no better option then UGP. read more

Can't say enough about UGP. Most recently, Matt Mora (the master club fitter) helped me with a putter fitting as I was sick of all my 3-putts. The 1.5 hour process was really informative and almost like a putting lesson. All the while, Matt helped me find a custom putter head and shaft specific to what my eyes see as straight. I ended up being able to customize my Edel putter, which was very cool. Since, I've played about 5 round and I can immediately see a difference and so can my scorecard. I was fitted at PXG and thought I had the best fitted driver money could get me. Wow was I wrong. Kevin fitted me into a new driver that got me 12 additional 'carry' yards. It doesn't seem like a lot unless your an avid golfer then you'd understand. This place is amazing because they don't focus on one or two manufacturers. These guys are easily among the best golf instructors you'll find in LA. After hitting a brick wall with my game and trying out various driving range pros around the city with significant improvement, a friend recommended that I check these guys out a little over a year ago, back before they moved into the new space. The first session I had was just a simple evaluation of my game and in that first hour I learned more about my swing than I had in the last 6 months of "lessons" at the driving range. I've been going to see them regularly ever since and in that time I've gone from a 10-12 handicap down to a 2. I've taken lessons from all of their instructors and these guys all know the golf swing inside and out, and even better, they all know how to use the technology to aid in their teaching. I have been taking golf lessons from various Pro's including GolfTec for about 6 years, but never played as well as I hoped to be. Than I started working with the guys at Urban Golf Performance and saw real improvement in my game. After taking a few months off, I came back to UGP in with one goal -- to break 100 at Pebble Beach. After working with Rory for two months, I not only shot 99 at Pebble Beach, but I won the President's Cup at my Club. I should say when I was working on swing changes, my scores went up. This happens to the Pros when they are implementing changes in their golf swing, but by staying with it and taking time to practice, I saw the changes in my swing take hold and my scores started to drop. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Evan and the entire team at UGP. I only come in to train with him, but each and every one of the golf trainers know me by name and greet me every time I walk in. That personal touch goes a long way. I've been training with Evan for quite a while. Started with him when he was the top trainer at Equinox. Once he moved to UGP, I moved right with him, and even got my husband to train with him. I've had many trainers in the past, but Evan has been my favorite so far. He has so much knowledge about the structures and functions of the human body. And he is constantly improving on that knowledge by attending seminars and lectures teaching him about the latest findings and techniques. Before he begins a program with you, he will evaluate you literally from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head and come up with a plan that's custom tailored to both what you want and what your body needs. During training his entire focus is on you. He scrutinizes every movement, making sure each rep of each set is done in perfect form. And most important, he keeps it fun. I've been at UGP for a few years and the coaches are awesome. The teachers use trackman and video analysis to help cure your swing faults. They definitely take more of a modern approach to their teaching but it's not super technical. My coach is Donny Lee and he's been awesome to work with. All the coaches there are very knowledgeable so you can't really go wrong. Facility itself is clean and nice. They also have a short game area and gym. read more

I'd give UGP 4.5 stars for the full bag assessment, only because they had my wrong email address and never got the survey to fill out prior to my fitting today. I kinda thought there was something wrong when I didn't get an email notice about my upcoming fitting. For $350, everything should've been confirmed prior to today. At least a followup call if the email bounces or there's not response. Now let's get to the overall experience. I was fitted by Matt. Per other reviews you start with a physical assessment. After that, it got to the fun part - testing all types of shafts, iron and driver heads, etc. They really try to hone your clubs to your swing, the numbers, and more importantly how the club feels. I knew my #'s would be different from my previous driver fitting (different fitter and swing) back in '11. Boy was I shocked! I can't wait to hear back my final results and their recommendation. I would highly recommend UGP for those that are serious about their game and really understand their swing and clubs. The team/staff is friendly and very helpful. UGP is a tremendous resource for any golfer who wants to improve their game. I had been thinking about taking lessons for a while because I just could not progress past a certain level. (I played a bit as a kid but not much since then until just a few years ago.) I was shooting in the mid-90's and having trouble making consistent contact. I finally found UGP and signed up for an assessment and a package of 10 lessons. Right from the start my game improved. All the instructors know their stuff and the state of the art technology makes it easy for them to show you how and why swing flaws are hurting your game. They're in the process of adding a new gym, and additional hitting bays that will make the already impressive Bought a lesson package and worked with Chris Dunn, who is a phenomenal coach. As previous reviewers have noted, the process begins with a physical evaluation, which allows them to assess your game and even pair you with the appropriate coach. After taking 8 very mediocre lessons with an "independent" instructor in west LA, and not being impressed with others I saw teaching, I became convinced that self-instruction and online research was best. Frustrated with a particular problem in my swing and some pain I had in my hands, I did some research and found out UGP is where people go when you want the very best, and want lessons, or high-end club fitting, or have a particular problem you are trying to fix. I am very impressed with UGP and have signed up for a series. They have a very scientific approach, very hands-on and knowledgeable experts, and great equipment. The facility is just top notch and their people are even better. For sure, you can find cheaper lessons out there, but in this case you get what you pay for and I find paying a small premium for very useful top-notch instruction that I enjoy is actually much better value than throwing away the money on instructors who are teaching you the wrong things and not really improving all aspects of your game. They even measure your physical limitations... This is a five stars place, that's clearly what they are going for and they achieve it. Although they do it all here, I especially recommend it if you're good and need a fitting, or if you have a "problem" or physical limitation and need someone really, really good to help you get around it. read more

UGP is the Mortons of golf ladies and gentlemen. This place is LUXE. Professional yet kind staff. If you know about JDM equipment and how important it is to be properly fitted, this establishment will become your holy grail. Matt Mora: extremely knowledgeable. Straight to the point. Helpful and kind all at the same time. He puts so much detail into explaining WHY you should swing this way, not that way. Kevin Moore: another super nice guy! Very encouraging (I wasn't hitting the best of shots and he helped calm my nerves a bit) He's also very knowledgeable about all golf equipment and the swing. Anyone who hasn't pulled the trigger and come here, needs to. If you're a golfer, this is the place to be.
