    Hole 2

Great food and happy hour beers. Expect a 3 hour round. Make some new friends and have fun. Vibes all day.

We had a great experience playing 9 holes yesterday at Penmar. 5:40 tee time, but due to putting 5 people in each group, they were running about 10 minutes behind schedule. Additionally, the group that was two ahead of us was playing well behind the pace. We had plenty of time to work on chipping and putting while we waited for them to clear each hole. The group behind us eventually circled back and replayed holes 1-3 instead of sticking it out. Most of the tee boxes were roped off for maintenance, and the tees were slightly ahead of where they would usually be. The fairways, bunkers, and greens were all in good condition. Every hole is pretty much a straight shot, so this is a great course for beginners and casual golfers. On the 6th tee, you can order drinks to be delivered to a box next to the 6th green. I placed an order, but it wasn't in the box when we got to the green 7-8 minutes later. I called the restaurant and they said they never received an order. They offered to meet us at the green with the drinks, and 3 minutes later we were restocked. I did need to call the next morning to get the original order refunded, which they handled cheerfully and promptly. I like that Toast sends you receipts to your email so you have them when things like this occur. Due to the slow pace, we played #8 and #9 with barely enough daylight to see. I'm amazed none of us lost a ball. Parking was easy in the lot out front, and we had a bite to eat before the round at the restaurant. Overall, the two of us spent about $100 on food and drinks before (and during) the round, and $11 each for our golf. We look forward to returning.

It's quite lengthy in distance for some of the holes and a bit more intimidating for.a beginner like myself to do without many swings. An executive par 3 with some holes as lengthy as an 18 hole in distance. There was also dry, mud streaks and bald patches with little to no greens on them. It's quite flat so that's what I liked, I also liked how there were water fountains on some of the holes. Since it's in the middle of the city, it was perfect for a sunny, warm day for playing. The place also has some parts where you can see the street and cars parted by a chain link fence. Not a good par 3 for a beginner, I would start with shorter length par 3 before coming here or save this one for last. Remember that it's an executive not a regular par 3. It makes a difference.

100% 5 stars based on what it is. It's a public course. The greens are nicer then any LA public and some private. It's fair priced. You get the ocean breeze. It has a modern area for drinks/food. Pull carts only. No driving range. Putting greens closed during vivid.

Well maintained 9-hole golf course with plenty of long and wide open par 4s. It's a great price for local residences and an even better price when you do the replay. Just remember to save your receipts for the replays. The staff here can be grumpy at times but overall they're alright as long as you follow the rules. The clubhouse also serves pretty good breakfast and lunch. Oh, there's no range here but a pretty good putting green.

Big flat greens in great shape.

Maybe I just got lucky but on Saturday evening, I went online, booked a tee time for 2 for the next day (Sunday at 9:12am) and paid a $10 deposit to lock up a prime tee time. Got to the course expecting it to be a ragged muni dump but was pleasantly surprised to see a young lady in the parking lot with an orange vest picking up trash at the course and neighboring tennis courts. There were a few homeless people sleeping in the park nearby (Venice has quite a large homeless population, many of whom a war vets) but it didn't feel unsafe. Try to park as close to the entrance as possible and just be aware of your surroundings and get in/out of the parking lot quickly. No stars off for the area though because it is what it is. Went up to the starter to check in with my friend who is a newbie to golf and wants the next level of course up from par 3 only courses. We said we were here for our 9:12am tee time and he said we could go off early if we wanted. My friend needed to warm up a little (there is no driving range so warmup was just putting, stretching and putting sunblock on) so we kept to our regular tee time. They applied the $10 deposit to our greens fees and it was about $20 each since we didn't have residence cards. Not bad for prime time weekend morning. Turns out Penmar is PERFECT for my friend who is wanting to step up to more than just short par 3s. I'm about a 9 handicap and found it to be easy (wide open fairways) and shot +2 for nine playing so so. Penmar has shallow and sparse traps and BIG flat soft poa annua greens that rolled good, but if you get in the kikuyu rough (same as almost all So Cal courses) it can be a challenge to hit the green. Trees line the fairways and can sometimes knock a hooked or sliced shot back into play. For long hitters there are lots of driver/flip wedge holes or you can layup to 100 and practice your course management. We were grouped up with two greats guys (one Indian and the other Australian) and they were local regulars who were super friendly and gave us little bits of local knowledge. We played 9 holes in just over 2 hours (2 hours and 5 min by my watch) and had so much fun. I was shocked in the current drought state we are in that they have kept the course so nice. I had just played Chambers Bay (2015 US Open course) and after being beat up relentlessly by that course, it was great to get out to a nice, fun, flat and easy but not completely defenseless muni that was an easy drive from Long Beach for me and from the Westside for my friend. Another great thing about this little muni is that it has an actual SCGA slope and rating so the scores can actually count towards establishing your handicap, unlike many other executive courses in so cal.

Absolutely fantastic course, great price, very friendly staff, can't wait to play again, this is our new go to spot!

This course is poorly taken care of and will take you about 3.5 hours to play. Not to mention the people who work here are extremely rude.

In the online shopping age, you place faith in things you cannot see. You establish trust based on…read morethe things you order being delivered timely and whole. It works for all kinds of things; off the rack clothes, protein powder, US Government debt, drawings of apes (remember those?), you name it, you can buy it. Let me tell you one very important purchase where there is no room for online shopping faith: golf clubs. Listen, I'm your typical high handicapper. I'm talking... very high. Like Whitney Houston high. So when I'm shopping for irons and a golf club manufacturer talks about AI Smoke or dual tungsten weighting, I'm going to be honest with you. I don't know -- nor do I care -- what the f-- they're talking about. All I know is, if it feels good, like I could swing it 150 times over the course of 36 holes and yes, you read that number and did your math correctly, then yes. Those are the clubs I need. Now I'm a fairly big dude, and unfortunately this makes my need to get fitted for proper clubs even more serious. Us big fellas will take a standard length club and perform Olympic level swing-nastics to protect our back. We will most likely fail and have our back screaming at us while we see our score reach Palm Desert afternoon temperature levels. So, for me, the most important thing when it comes to picking a set of irons is comfort and feel. If I'm going to be swinging this a lot, at least make sure it feels good doing it. Omer knew this right away. He's dealt with tall people, I'm sure he's dealt with smaller people and everything in between. And he was quick, deliberate and no BS in his recommendations. He saw my swing and then picked out a few great clubs. He explained taller folks with long wrist-to-floors need clubs that extend well before they leave the factory and in the mfg process -- not just aftermarket extensions. I appreciated that bit of advice and his clear explanations in the lengthening process and how it differed from manufacturer to manufacturer. He didn't speak AI Smoke-up-my-ass-anese. He gave me practical bits like "this might create a weak point in the club and break your shaft on a bad swing." He explained it realistically looking out for me, the high-handicapper. And here's the thing -- did I have to pay $150 and schedule an appointment with Omer to know this? No I did not. You know exactly what I'm talking about guys. Of all the things I knew I wasn't doing, I wasn't about to pay $150 and schedule an appointment to be pitched to and upsold. Here I am at Roger Dunn completely for free. Omer dropping truth bombs on what I need and keeping it simple. No passing judgment, no snobby upsell tactics, just straight knowledge and work. I appreciated him a lot. Also shoutout to Lawrence in shoes, who let me try on a few pairs and was super helpful helping me find the shoes I'd want. Finally, thanks David at the front. The morning crew today took me in and were super helpful. The team here is great and have an approach that's welcoming even for a total golf schmuck like me. I'm glad this is my local Roger Dunn, and my neighbors you should be, too.

I went to purchase a new set of irons and was surprised that they didn't have them in stock. The sales associate said he would call around to find them. He said he found a set and when I went to pick them up five days later they were used! The manager offered no apology and said he could take ten percent off of the price. He also said that I couldn't even order a new set. While still at the counter I found and purchased the set from an online store. They should be delivered to my house in two days.

Our reservations is at 3pm, but honestly even if you don't have one and the wait is an hour or two, it's still not bad. There are TVs everywhere and a bar area where you can hang out while you wait. This time we were on the third floor, and I actually liked it more than being on the ground level. The vibe just felt a little better up there. Food was, as always, really good. We ordered boneless wings with fries, chips and salsa with guac, and a few drinks. My husband and I skipped alcohol this time since we gave it up for a lent, but honestly it didn't make a difference since we are not big drinkers like we used to and we still had the best time! Jarvis was helping us and he was super nice and attentive the whole time. Thanks so much, Jarvis! It also wasn't too packed, which I loved--just the right amount of people. I like that there's a bar on each floor too, so you never feel crowded in one area. Overall, we always have a great time here. Definitely one of our go-to spots and can't wait to come back again! The parking lot was pretty full since the place was busy, but it's a large lot so it wasn't hard to find parking. Once inside, the place looked really nice and the staff greeted us right away. Customer service was friendly and helpful. They showed us where our bay was, and once we got settled a server came over to help us log in and also offered to take any food or drink orders. We ordered some tacos along with the pita and hummus. Quite honestly, for a place where you're golfing and constantly touching golf clubs, there seemed to be a lot of finger foods on the menu. The food was cool, nothing special, but still enjoyable enough for the experience. The whole setup was really smooth and the staff made everything easy. I've actually never played golf or swung a golf club before, but it ended up being really fun and easy to pick up. The atmosphere inside was great and the overall ambience made it a fun place to hang out. My only small critique would be the pricing. I understand why it's expensive given the experience and the venue, but it could probably be slightly cheaper. Overall though, I had a great time and would definitely come back again.
