I had fun but I would love to see some change at this rink…read more I grew up very spoiled by the ice rink that was in my small town in Wyoming. It was seasonal but it was free to skate there because of local donors. There were always multiple staff who skated around the rink to make sure everyone was safe and guided people around those who had fallen or were creating unsafe situations for all the skaters. The figure skaters only practiced in the middle of the rink that had cones around it to prevent any public members from confusion and entering that space. You were asked to follow the direction of the skating and not go against the flow. There was a mandatory break halfway to clear the ice. This rink is a far cry from that. Skating is honestly a hazard here! I had to check in mid skate to see if I was still in public skate because there were so many figure skaters on the rink doing whatever they wanted. Skating wrong ways, blocking the path, zig zagging between skaters, all the things figure skaters do.I had a few almost run ins myself. I don't understand why public skate can't be a fun time to skate around and around without worrying if you're going to have a head on collision with the figure skater. I felt really frustrated because this wasn't the first time that I've come here and had this happen. Can there be a designated time for the figure skaters to practice? I get it.. share the ice but when it's a literal free for all it's hard to predict where to skate and stay safe. I'm familiar with how to stop safely but for newbies this is really unsafe. I want to take my nephews here but is there a time when it's truly a public skate?

The facility is well set up with great amenities, including large locker rooms, a nice beer garden, and a convenient snack shop. It's a true hub for ice sports, hosting adult and kids league hockey and figure skating, plus open skating sessions with both skate and skating helper rentals available. The vibe here is definitely improving, and I'm really looking forward to the upstairs bar and restaurant that is reportedly coming soon! A cool, reliable spot for everything ice-related.

Okay, 3.5 stars, not 3... I've skated at this rink quite a few times over the years, most recently…read morefor a hockey tournament. If you're here for the sport, the ice is always fantastic; consistently solid and well-maintained, which is clearly why the Winterhawks use it as their practice facility. However, the rest of the facility definitely shows its age. The stands are nice enough, though they are located on the far side from the entrance, making for a bit of a trek if you're carrying gear. The lobby isn't huge, and the locker rooms are a tight squeeze, especially if you have a full-roster adult hockey team trying to gear up at once. On the positive side, you can tell they are making an effort to modernize. The lobby, locker rooms, and bathrooms have been renovated, which is a huge improvement over how they used to be. The staff is also very friendly and helpful, whether you're there for a tournament or just a public skate. It's a classic, "old school" rink that has its quirks but remains a reliable staple for the local hockey community.

The Zamboni was on the ice when we got there (about 10am), but despite the website saying open skate was 10:15-12:15, the throngs weren't allowed until 10:30. Hopefully they will extend until 12:30. Anyway my daughter is excited to start lessons even though they don't start until after the new year.

Lloyd Center is such a great place to skate. I love how inclusive and friendly the skating…read morecommunity is here. My daughter started skating at Lloyd center 2 years ago. She has been skating for about 7 years total. We had heard good things about the program at Lloyd and decided to give it a try even though we live less than 10 minutes from the Sherwood rink. I'm so glad we did! The value you get at Lloyd can't be beat. If you happen to miss a class it's easy to pick up another class as a make up plus you can attend Open skate for free and get a punch card to bring a friend to Open skate a few times each session. Freestyles are also less expensive than other rinks in the areas. If you have done a learn to skate program there are some more advanced classes you can take like Choreo & Moves. The coaching staff is awesome, knowledgeable and patient. They go above and beyond to make students feel welcome, safe and included. (Special shout-out to Lydia!) Lloyd Center is also great for folks just wanting to skate for fun. Much of the day is available as Open skate and there are in and out privileges for the day. That means you can skate, pop off to grab lunch or shop and then skate again. It's a great little outing to do with friends or family.

It included the skates. It was particularly busy that day but manageable. You can rent a locker for $5. It's bigger than it looks..was able to fit 4 pairs of teenager shoes in there, a jacket and a purse. I'd go again. If I wasn't so worried that my nieces would need me for something, I would have just walked the mall but I got stuck taking pics and holding their phones like a chump..haha. good times.
