    Stick and puck session
    Max A.

Nice ice, nice staff, bar with cheap beer, clean locker rooms. Plenty of extended public skate sessions. Lots of stick and puck daily. I haven't gotten to go to a game here yet, just as skater but am excited for the opportunity to. The staff were all super friendly. They have a pro shop but are conveniently located next to a play it again for budget shoppers. Lots of other food and entertainment right there.

Just now leaving the ice rink after two continuous hours of skating. Had a blast. Great time on a very rainy Northwest day. Even the teenagers had fun. Any public sport has its challenges. I'm bringing extra socks (had to rent a size up because the don't have 1/2 sizes) next time plus a bandage for the small blister (still totally worth it!). We didn't stop to have any refreshments, but the line was long for them. I came to skate, so we ate beforehand. We came right after the Zamboni (3:00-5:00ish)i, the ice seemed decent, but again the public chops up things a lot. I'm looking forward to coming back again!

See, Skate with Santa on Sunday!!!
    Richard H.

The schedule changed. My little girl and I went on sunday because it was a santa skate. She was so excited that she was ready at 7 o'clock in the morning when she rolled out of bed. She was dressed in warm clothes, had here backpak full of knee and elbow pads, and her helmut was clipped onto a loop. This girl is ready for some serious ice time with santa. We had to cool her jets because the Skate with Santa did not start until 3:30. That is forever for a little girl to wait. We get there way early, pay and get her skates. The Zamboni is running around the rink now and she is hurring to get her skates on. Elbow pads, knee pads, helmut and she runs to the door. Another 5 minutes watching the Zamboni make its final passes and back into the barn. She was not quite the first but in the group. She has been waiting all fall to go skating as the place has been under construction (and still is) there have been no public skate in a long, long time. At first she falls down more than she stands up. But she is starting to get the hang of it again. 30 minutes go by and she asks, where is Santa? Then another 30 minutes, then another, and another. Come to find out that they changed the schedule and he will not be showing today. She was not a happy camper. Also they do not have public skate for kid at reasonable time except for holiday weeks.

    3 minutes for checking. What a bada$$.
    No Free Lunches Co ..

***wowee zowee*** I want to start by saying the only thing keeping Winterhawks Skating Center from a 5 star review is the temperature. It's freezing in there! That being said I loved the environment. Nick, our bartender kindly informed us without prompt that the $4 beers were only $2 if you were "watching a friend". A lot of places wouldn't do this for out of towners or people not in the know, very happy about this. The bathrooms were immaculate, I've never seen such a well kept restroom in my life. Lots of hockey nerds, hockey on TV, on the ice, old dudes hanging out talking about hockey, very chill. My favorite part was that Nick, our bartender, was also the Zamboneeeee driver. How cool is that?! Keep doing your thing guys, can't wait for the championships!

Super crowded. Skated for over 1 hr with the kids. Great indoor activity on a typical Oregon rainy day.

It's fun.. went during winter break and had a good time. The cafeteria ran out of popcorn that day, but they had other options.

Ask the Community - Winterhawks Skating Center

Is there a skating rink there?

Yes, there is a fair size skating rink, that's basically all it is, you go and skate. I happen to take skating classes there every week and I love it.

Dust your ice skates off, because winter is here! Well, maybe you don't own a pair of skates, but…read moreat least you've got a local ice skating rink nearby. What am I talking about? Well, it's not a huge seasonal event like the Holiday Ice Rink Union Square in San Francisco and it's probably only one-fourth the size of The Rink at Rockefeller Center, but it's the Winter Village at Orenco Station Plaza! Yippeee!!!! OK, so first off, I'm new to the area but was told about this event happens every December. I didn't think much of it, until I started seeing them construct the ice rink. Then I knew something special was happening. But before I get into more details about skating and Winter Village, I just wanted to disclose that most of my information is primarily from their website versus what I've seen and experienced. Now onto the details: ~ When is it? Well, Winter Village opened last November 29th and will end January 5th, 2020. You basically get about five weeks of fun! And I'm actually somewhat surprised that no one has written up a review for this by now. ~ Main feature? Well it's the ICE RINK of course! A small one that's only about 115 feet long and 26 feet wide. It is outdoor, but covered by a huge white tent. With all the rain as of recent, it's actually good that the ice is covered and protected. The rink capacity can hold up to 70 skaters during a session. You do have to sign a waiver prior to skating, and sessions are about 90 minutes each. You can find their skating calendar and session pricing here: https://www.hillsboro-oregon.gov/home/showdocument?id=24060 ~ In general, prices with skate rentals are: Adults $13 Children (ages 4-11) $10 Children under 3 FREE! Want a discount? Bring your own skates and get $2 off. Or military and First Responders (and family members) get $1 off. ~ Features I've seen: Kids skating in special strollers. Cool winter decor and colorful lighting everywhere. I've seen the rink reserved, closed during some sessions for private events. So yes, you can rent the entire place all for yourself if you need to plan a private party. A great idea if you plan to have a season ending get together with coworkers. I've definitely seen it busier on weekends versus weekdays, so plan accordingly. ~ What I didn't expect from the village? The Winter Market on Sundays (10-3pm). Yes, a tiny farmers market with about 8 vendors selling things from home-made chocolates, specialty soaps, some flowers, a pie guy, a glass blowing vendor, I think I even saw a booth with veggies, a bakery booth with pastries, and a small band of local musicians playing Christmas songs. I thought it was just cool just seeing the community come together, regardless of how cold conditions have been lately. Well, there you have it! I would've given five-stars, but honestly I was sort of expecting more when you call something a "village". Maybe it hasn't snowed enough yet. Or maybe I was expecting it to be busier everyday around the area, but the good thing is, it's not. It is next to the MAX station, but really no heavy foot traffic. Support your locals folks, take your family out for some cheap skating fun, and happy holidays!

The facility is well set up with great amenities, including large locker rooms, a nice beer garden, and a convenient snack shop. It's a true hub for ice sports, hosting adult and kids league hockey and figure skating, plus open skating sessions with both skate and skating helper rentals available. The vibe here is definitely improving, and I'm really looking forward to the upstairs bar and restaurant that is reportedly coming soon! A cool, reliable spot for everything ice-related.

I had fun but I would love to see some change at this rink…read more I grew up very spoiled by the ice rink that was in my small town in Wyoming. It was seasonal but it was free to skate there because of local donors. There were always multiple staff who skated around the rink to make sure everyone was safe and guided people around those who had fallen or were creating unsafe situations for all the skaters. The figure skaters only practiced in the middle of the rink that had cones around it to prevent any public members from confusion and entering that space. You were asked to follow the direction of the skating and not go against the flow. There was a mandatory break halfway to clear the ice. This rink is a far cry from that. Skating is honestly a hazard here! I had to check in mid skate to see if I was still in public skate because there were so many figure skaters on the rink doing whatever they wanted. Skating wrong ways, blocking the path, zig zagging between skaters, all the things figure skaters do.I had a few almost run ins myself. I don't understand why public skate can't be a fun time to skate around and around without worrying if you're going to have a head on collision with the figure skater. I felt really frustrated because this wasn't the first time that I've come here and had this happen. Can there be a designated time for the figure skaters to practice? I get it.. share the ice but when it's a literal free for all it's hard to predict where to skate and stay safe. I'm familiar with how to stop safely but for newbies this is really unsafe. I want to take my nephews here but is there a time when it's truly a public skate?

She has been skating for about 7 years total. We had heard good things about the program at Lloyd and decided to give it a try even though we live less than 10 minutes from the Sherwood rink. I'm so glad we did! The value you get at Lloyd can't be beat. If you happen to miss a class it's easy to pick up another class as a make up plus you can attend Open skate for free and get a punch card to bring a friend to Open skate a few times each session. Freestyles are also less expensive than other rinks in the areas. If you have done a learn to skate program there are some more advanced classes you can take like Choreo & Moves. The coaching staff is awesome, knowledgeable and patient. They go above and beyond to make students feel welcome, safe and included. (Special shout-out to Lydia!)
