As a mom of two, I consider myself a park connoisseur in regards to safety, attractions, and overall good time-y-ness.
Some of Portland's favorite parks are a nightmare in my book - maybe it is picturesque and beautiful, but the play structures are way too far apart from each other, you cant easily watch two children frollicking, maybe there's an unprotected water source in the middle of the play area?
Brooklyn Park doesn't have any of that. You know what they have? A condensed and fun play structure with seating for parents that makes it easy to keep an eye on your kids. You know what else they have? A giant hill that's awesome for running or rolling down as fast as you can and seeing if you can fly. You know what else they have? A giant field for baseball and a lit basketball court. You know what else they have? A public restroom that's easily accessible to the play structure. And to top it all off? During the summer, every week they host a giant slip and slide feature open to the neighborhood that runs down the giant hill.
It isn't always the safest spot in town, so I wouldn't necessarily hit the park alone at night. But otherwise, me and the kiddos totally love "Mountain Park" (that's what we call it anyway). read more
