I am like a kid in a candy store when I go to any and all art studios. I frequent Winter Street Studios and all of the season-named studios next door. Most of my soaps and scarves were purchased from going on days where the studios are open to the public. One of my Frida paintings was purchased from one of the resident artists there. Just recently (Nov. 17, 2018), I volunteered as bartender for Winter Street Studios annual Winter Holiday Art Market (WHAM) I had a blast making and serving drinks. Crazy to find but great space for parties! I recently went to the SNAPshots party here to benefit SNAP (Spay and Neuter Assistance Program). They had food, alcohol freely flowing, a silent auction, and fashion show. Winter Street Studios was able to accommodate all of those things in different areas. The space is bright, open, and can easily be made into whatever you need as far as a space. Problems: -The parking was valet that night, but we opted to park ourselves. You have to walk over railroad tracks to get to the building and then through some gravel. On the way out we had to wait for a train to get to our car. The parking is definitely limited and the building was not at full capacity. - If this place is handicapped accessible then it's well hidden. There are stairs and gravel between parking and the 2nd floor space we were in. Drunk people were wobbly leaving. - The bathroom (yes singular) was a couple of rooms being used by both men and women. It was a little strange, but we worked it out. If there was another bathroom, no one found it. Even with all of that said, the space is great and you can do so much with it! I really liked that there was a DJ after the fashion show in one room and it was quieter in the silent auction section so you could choose your noise level! Watercolors? Check. Sculptures? Check. Pencil drawings? Check. Abstract art you can spend hours dissecting? Check. Amazing, down to earth local artists who truly love sharing their artwork? Check, check, and check. I came to Winter Street Studios on the second Saturday of the month for their monthly art showing. The variety of art you find here is comparable to a box of chocolates. You go into any given studio thinking you know what to expect based on briefly glancing through the door before you enter. Once you're inside, everything else around you disappears and you just become completely immersed in the artists' work. It's truly incredible. The best thing about this place is how friendly and sharing each and every artist is. A good amount of the artists here rent out the studio space, so that each area doubles as their workshop and their gallery. You really can't get more authentic than that. It's always great to see the world through others' eyes and at Winter Street, there's nothing but beauty. read more

Participating in today's Yelp event brought me to Winter Studios for the first time. Much to my surprise, there was a free parking lot available for patrons. This was truly appreciated because parking in the area is limited. The artists I met with today were a very friendly and truly appreciative bunch. All were delighted to either share the story behind pieces that caught my eye or discuss their career path. Each was interesting and all were as unique as the artwork displayed. read more

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this area by accident. I was looking through the FOTOFEST booklet to plan out my gallery tour and had spacetaker as one of my stops. However, I did not realize spacetaker was actually a resource center that was located in this strip of amazing studios known as Winter Street Studios. I was even more lucky because the day I went just happened to be on 2nd Saturday. Which is their monthly event which happens every 2nd Saturday of every month from 2-5 pm when the artists open up their studios for tours and talks. The place was decently packed. It was cool to meet many of the artists and see their work on display. Some artists were actively working as people came by. Some of the artists I was able to meet were Chris Silkwood who does Mosaic Art Design. Her stuff can be found at www.silkwoodmosaics.com I was able to check out the arts in studio 33 and meet Robert from Gallery 3. The space itself seems like an old parking garage/warehouse. Most of the original structures still remain which gives this area flavor. There were countless artists in this space. If you have never heard of this area, take the "2nd Saturday" and bring the family and have a great time. Also when you're done exploring The President's heads by David Adickes is only minutes away. read more

First event I've been to like this and I loved it. My bestie, her boyfriend, and I had a blast. There were so many artists that I loved. The jewelry was also nice. I fell in love with an artist named Camille Warmington. She does the most touching and beautiful photos I've seen in a long time. She takes old photos and paints them more soft and abstractly. She only does her own photos, but I hope one day she will do others. I have some pictures that I would love to see as one of her paintings. The beverages and food was amaze balls. I'll give a special shout out to the golden grill food truck, who had my mouth watering. Also titos vodka and topo Chico brand used to make a delicious and nutritious drink that we loved! Last but not least, the Texas tamale company had me wanting more! Definitely going to have all of these over again! Great job to Farrah for putting such a great ensemble together! read more

So this was our 1st time here and the only reason we came was to attend the Yelp party. As a result, we fell in love with the building and its vendors. A bit confusing to get to with (Spring & Summer Street Studios also being near by) but also nice because we were able to visit them all :-) All 3 building are the same but different and they are about to add the Silos which will be awesome. You can see so many different artist there which is pretty cool! All in all we will be back! read more

We came here for a wine and cheese event. The warehouse was a industrial ish looking . Fine place for an artsy gallery. The place is dated though with many safety issues. Stairs are uneven as the walkways so not a great place for someone who is handicap. An amazing collective of local artists using a multitude of mediums and styles to realize their visions of art. So happy something like this has been developed for Houston to enjoy. It really has brought legitimacy to the city. Walking around it feels like a maze of artist nooks. Artists, jewelers, other collaborators. I feel as though this has become a renaissance of sorts. They often times have open houses and other showcases. It is very cool. No pressure either. The environment is very welcoming so you don't have to feel like you have to be an art snob to be there. I was there most recently for a winter holiday party. Most all of the artists that participated had completely wine and light bites. I sensed that it could easily be a unique date spot...a walk about of sorts. read more

Confession: I know basically nothing about visual arts. I either like it, or I don't. Still, I had a great time here. I'd seen a flyer months before my visit about Winter and Spring Street Studios and I thought they sounded cool, mostly because of the names. I didn't act. One rainy Saturday, my dining companion and I were eating lunch on Montrose and decided to go on an adventure. We went over to see the presidents' busts and on our way to leave the area for downtown in search of the big bubble, we passed Winter Street. I said, "Oh, I think there's an art studio down there." As luck would have it, it just so happened to be the second Saturday between the hours of 2 and 5 pm! We ventured in and visited several studios. We met some interesting artists and saw things we liked and didn't. The place goes on forever it seems, so we didn't see it all and our plans to push the button downtown were derailed, but it was totally worth it. read more

Other than the fact that Winter Street Studios was located in the middle of nowhere, this was a pretty cool place to appreciate various artists and their different styles and interpretations. If you love art, you really need to set aside at least a couple of hours to take in everything that was here. The artists themselves are available to give you some insight into their art pieces. If you really like their work, you can purchase them anywhere from $20 to thousands of dollars. So, there's something for everyone. What was also nice was that each artist had laid out some wine and light bites for you to munch on as you peruse their work. It's worthy to mention that every second Saturday of the month, they hold open studio from 2-5 pm. So, come and check them out. A word to the wise, though, please wear comfortable footwear. You'll likely be parking in the gravel lot right next to Winter Studios. Unless you want to twist/break your ankle, try not to wear heels. read more

I was completely unaware this existed until I attended a Yelp event! This older sister of Spring Street Studios is a little smaller but offers just as much as Spring. They also hold open studio even every second Saturday of every month. I will definitely return to see the artist's recent work. read more

I visited this place during a Yelp event. It's a really nice, and have some amazing art work in it. It's nice and spacious, with a cool vibe. It's very trendy and artsy. When you walk up there is a sweet gift shop that awaits you with cookies, and then you walk upstairs where you can find a nice mix of colored art. I've been here for two art exhibits and 1 art expo...the talent they bring in is phenomenal. I love that you can buy many of the pieces also and many of them are affordable. I had a great time at the recent yelp hosted event at this location. The artists featured here ran the gambit and there was a lot of variety offered. Art is one of those very subjective things but I personally found much of it to be overpriced for what is was. All in all I would definitely return to check out several of the artists and their pieces. read more

It was in a kinda odd location, you had to drive over some railroad tracks to get there but once you get inside it is really neat. I went for the Winter Holiday Art Market kick off party Friday night and then again Saturday. Friday night cost $10 to get in and Saturday was free. The art featured had a wide range from only a few dollars to very expensive pieces depending on the type of art and the artist. There were some really cool artists there and I got to meet Homer Allen and some of the other artists. Whole Foods provided appetizers and they had an open bar. There was a wide variety of people there and it was a great opportunity to meet new people and view some great art. I wish they had events like this more often. read more
