Tucked away in the forgotten quarters of Barrington Place, I tend to forget about its existence, but its longevity and steady clientele prove it to be downtown destination. Names like Cambridge, Jack Victor, Cutter & Buck, Nautica, Bugatchi, Lipson, Klauss Bochler and Michael Kors are amongst its flavourful offerings, and its all quite clear that quality is priority. Not a spot for my own taste, but I understand Cowell's appeal for the right man or woman. Heavy prices are to be expected, but the large stocking of apparel is enough to take your mind off the logistics. Outerwear, basics, formal dresses and accessories, Colwell's does it all with the utmost class, and is certainly a spot to try if you're looking to sport this niche.

It doesn't hurt that they stock one of my favourite Canadian jewelry designers, as well as my 2nd love of life - Manitobah Moccasins. I own 3 pairs, I'm obsessed. Everything in the store is Canadian made, so no need to worry about spending your hard earned bucks on supporting local, because this store covers all those bases. Which brings me to the price. You're not going to walk in here and pick something up on a whim. No, you're going to carefully stock that very expensive coat, visit it often, until you just can't leave without it. Like how I'm going to do with that Biko necklace, earrings, bracelet.. you get the idea. I'm gonna creep the crap out of that jewelry until it finally comes home with me some payday Friday, when I carefully budget my pay cheque to cut out grocery shopping. So don't go in here thinking it's just another clothing store. You're paying for some Canadians dedication and hard work. You're supporting someone's passion and their dreams. I'd rather spend my money that way, I might end up spending more, but there is a different satisfaction with spending your money wisely. Plus the quality of products they sell here is top shelf!

Even though we had not purchased our items from here, they were more than pleased to tailor them for us for a reasonable price. We were impressed that the owner and others we met in the location were attentive, knew their business extremely well and offered advice to ensure the work would turn out well. Had we gone elsewhere, I would not have known to keep the euro hem in my new jeans, my husband's sport coat would have been taken in at the wrong seams, and I know his two nice shirts would have been a mess. Everything turned out better than I expected and we have found several other items that we will be taking in over the coming weeks. The fact that the work was done on time, in just a couple of days was also a very bug plus! We enjoyed the conversation while there and the on hand clothing selection is quite nice. The collection of ties is diverse and colourful. There is a little something for all tastes, the staff are up on trends, the selection is all higher quality and last summer there was a nice splash of bright colors we hadn't found elsewhere in Halifax. I'm a pretty lean guy so it's nice to find clothes that have a nice fit and aren't baggy on me, whether it's because of me being emaciated, or just the style of the clothing. I love that the clothes aren't covered in logos and in your face designs; good clothes will speak for themselves and have a timeless cut and colour. The staff is always quite helpful here. On my last visit, they held onto some bulky bags from another store I was carrying around and started a room for me while I picked out a few things. I was able to find the modern look and style I was looking for, and the pricing was perfect! The store is owned and operated by a Master Tailor who provides custom fittings for anything you buy. I bought a Calvin Klein suit with a french-cuffed Sean John shirt. I didn't like how the shirt looked on me and wanted a more 'slim fit' look. The saleslady assisting us was very nice and patient. Adam must've tried on at least 2-3 different shirts and more than 5 ties. She was also nice enough to steam the shirt before wrapping it up. They have this cool policy in the store where you can try to put a hole in one mini golf style for $95 off a tie for $2 (and the money goes to charity!). Sadly, both Adam and I missed. But I enjoyed playing a lot! Mini put inside a store! I was surprised no one snubbed us as we did look very ordinary.
