Today, I had an (EEEEK) root canal, performed by Dr Devin and staff. I'd never had this particular type of adventure before, so only knew the horror stories I'd heard about pain, pain, and more pain. THOSE OLD STORIES ARE NO LONGER TRUE! After requesting a blanket & neck pillow, I went in, and got a numbing experience, literally. [Did I mention that I HATE needles] A topical numbing agent was dabbed on the injection area, and after a few minutes, a vibrator was turned on in my mouth while the injection was administered. I felt only the tiniest 'pick'. A few more minutes later, a second injection of numbing agent was put in. This time, I didn't even feel the pick. While I waited for that to do its job, I noticed that, on either side of the target tooth, my feeling was absolutely normal; it was as if that one small area no longer existed! Doc Devin and his assistant (I'm sorry, I didn't get her name) explained to me and showed images of my tooth and what to expect. My questions were fully answered. A different kind of image was needed, so I was taken to this amazing machine that talks as it get ready, "ready to capture". But the really FUN part is that while it's imaging, it has these funny burbbly, squirbbly sounds; I felt like I was inside a video game or on an old fashioned carousel! Very cool! To make a long story short, Doc Devin explained the new images and got to work. NEVER DID I FEEL ANY PAIN WHATSOEVER!!! Neither was my whole face numb, only that one area. After my root canal was finished, I went for coffee and did some shopping before heading home. After about 3 hours, even that limited area was no longer numb! So, if like me, you've heard horror stories about root canals, SEE DOC DEVIN! I can't give him and his staff enough credit. They are AMAZING!!! read more

I, like a lot of people have a phobia about going to the Dentist. But all that changed when I went to Winlock Family Dentistry. Dr. Clark is by far the best Dentist I have ever been to. He does great work and really cares about his patients. He even called me a couple hours later to see how I was doing. And his staff is top notch from the Hygienists, dental Assistants and office staff I was treated with compassion, respect and professionalism. read more

I rarely give negative reviews, but I had an experience at Winlock Dentistry just over a year ago I'd like to pass on so others can weigh their experience. I went in for routine exam and cleaning. The dental hygienists and office team were lovely, this is why I give two stars. They did a great job, very friendly, with little pain in the cleaning. My teeth felt great. And, they were very helpful with sharing information, x-rays, etc. However, following the dentist's exam I was told I had seven teeth needed filling because of cavities, micro-cavities, or sticky enamel. I was completely shocked by this news. I'd had a cleaning and exam the year prior with no reported concerns. And, generally, that's how my appointments go. I've not had a cavity in 25 years. The cost was one thing (about $400 after insurance), but the vulnerability after a tooth is drilled into really was what worried me. Initially, I booked an appt to have a few of the seven cavities filled, some of which would have required drilling between teeth. These were the ones the dentist was urging as more serious/deep cavities. Then I slept on it and decided to cancel. I've just returned from an appt today, just over a year later, with a respected dentist in a different city. They did full x-rays and carefully examined every tooth, the gums, etc. Not a single word about cavities, micro-cavities, soft enamel--much like every other dentist I've visited. I will say that a co-worker at the time used Winlock Family Dentistry for years found the work and service very good. So, this is just one person's experience. But, good for us all to trust our gut and also to reflect on historical experience before going under the drill! I'd add that I did some research following the appointment in Winlock and learned that enamel hardness can fluctuate with diet, toothpaste, and even exercise. I am not sure if any of this played into it, but I did start using an enamel supporting toothpaste following the appointment. Perhaps that's made a difference. I have been coming to this office for about a year and a half. They have a new dentist, Dr. Clark. I like him. He's calm, personable and reassuring. I honestly really hate having dental work done. This office is an example of an entire team working together to make patients feel as comfortable as possible. Makenzi at the front desk knows what she is doing. She actually understands dental billing and can explain/answer any question I've ever had. The dental assistants I have had are fantastic, especially Whitney. They are professional and kind. If you're in the market for a new family dentist, you won't be disappointed at this office. read more

The NEW Dentist at Winlock Family Dentistry, Dr Karyn Mai is highly talented. I had a crown done today that I have been putting off for years due to fear of the dentist. She has a painless technique for administration of the local anesthetic. Once numb I had no pain whatsoever! That is a first ! So the whole process was painless! Dr. Mai and her Technician Debbie worked swiftly and efficiently, the procedure was over in less time than I expected. She asked several times if I needed a break and was sensitive to my fear of the dentist. I had already been having my teeth cleaned by the Dental Hygienist Erin for several years ,she has also been great. Paying attention to detail and doing a great job. I live in the Winlock area but this Dentist would be well worth the trip to travel to have your teeth cleaned or any dental work done. Painless, efficient and friendly. read more

Dr. Mai is very thorough and she will spent the time with you and not rush through just to see another patient. She truly cares for your oral health so if you want to have good oral health, this is the dentist you should get seen by! I have a family member working in the dental industry so I was told the insights on who is really good dentist and she was top of their list as being very good on the medical side. We can only see which offices are friendly and make us feel comfy but this office welcomes you and makes you feel comfy and the doctor is very good at what she does so I highly reccomends all my friends and family to see her! read more

I have gone to many dentists in my 68 years, but none are as good as the new owner of Winlock Family Dentistry, Dr. Karyn Mai. During my last appointment, a minor oral surgery, she explained everything well. After the surgery she instructed me to take pain meds she prescribed. I took only two and no others were needed. I initially made an appointment for a cleaning but they scheduled an exam. No big deal that's easy enough to switch around. When I got a reminder call for my next appointment I explained that I was having some medical issues and thought it would be better to cancel just in case I wouldn't be able to make it. She abruptly ended the call and when I asked if I could reschedule she told me to wait until I was feeling better and then call. It wasn't that kind of medical issue but I guess that was my punishment for cancelling the appointment. I was impressed with Dr. Snow and was happy to find her but not enough to put up with rude staff, so I won't be going back. read more
