So are the gay bars. Although just a fifteen-minute walk from our hotel, the last block on Old Bailey Street was a bit of a climb. We started hearing Shania Twain, a far cry from the K-POP blaring everywhere else. When we saw the rainbow flag out front and the sea of brassieres hanging from the ceiling, we knew this must be the place. There were just three people at the bar and two behind it, both English speakers. Our particular barkeep was from Curaçao even though she sounded like a Texan. The vibe was casual and quite chill, and we were impressed by the manga menus. The name refers to the Native American tribe, not my dad's 1968 Pontiac Catalina. Wanting time to peruse the menu, we ordered our standby, a couple of HK$98 Espresso Martinis (photo; https://yelp.to/8pnmgyoiM6). Quite smooth with just a hush of sweetness that had us tapping our feet to classic Dolly Parton. We were ready to order their artisan signature cocktails for our second round. Jamie went for the HK$98 Killswitch, a particularly potent mix of tequila, Ribena Jamaica, lime, fenugreek tincture, and soda, it was a margarita with a third leg. So we could barely see anything but we thought it's ok we're just gonna enjoy the drinks and foods. Well it turned out the view already was the best part of the night. We ordered 4 cocktails and only 1 was good. We didn't finish the other 3 because they just tasted horrible. My advice is just get something simple like gin and tonic or coke and rum. Their own signature cocktails were a waste of money. We also ordered fries and fried chicken which were overcooked. They were probably left in the fryer for too long. The wagyu beef slider was actually quite delicious but hey we paid $180 for 1 slider it'd better be good. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. I don't think I would come back again..

Context setting: I'm Chinese American from the San Francisco Bay Area, where we have no shortage of craft cocktail bars with expansive high end liquor selections and innovative mixology. All that to say, I know a good cocktail. Scene: Came in on New Year's Eve. Was sat at a table away from the bar with my sister and two friends from mainland China. Only entirely-Asian group in the bar. Service: We were sat at one of the tables near the bookshelves. Service is polite but stiff. Might be a language barrier with the servers, since my sister and I are primarily English speaking, with terrible Mandarin and 0 Cantonese. Vibe: The couples at the bar (predominantly white guys...) got much more attentive service and conversation than our group. White guy bartender kept giving us weird looks the entire night. We did get the complimentary champagne cocktail when the clock struck midnight, which was nice. Drinks: Thoughtful and well balanced. Honors the flavors of the primary liquors while adding other subtle twists with nods to Japanese and Chinese flavor profiles and ingredients. 5/5, everything we tried was tasty and well executed.

It is a little hard to find, as it is inside of an old building in Wan Chai, but once you find the entrance to the bar and open the door, you will be surprised to find a small bar that is very much like the classic cocktail and whisky bars in Tokyo's Ginza district. Much like the bars in Tokyo, the service here is authentically Japanese. The Japanese head bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. We each had two cocktails and I enjoyed both of my fruit cocktails. This bar also has a nice garden out on the deck. We didn't go out there because it was raining pretty hard when we went, but we would love to go out there the next time we visit the city.

They politely asked us to come back at midnight and we were amazed to find ourselves actually still out then (which says something for Hong Kong) so we headed over there again. The private party was still happening but we were welcomed to a standing table and ordered drinks. They were good but not as great as the tiki bar in Beijing. The place was spacious and great for dancing but the decor wasn't as tiki as it could be. Service was very nice and very good- they kindly filled up my drink with soda water when I hadn't mixed it properly and was left with straight liquor (it was supposed to be different colors so no fault of theirs for it not being mixed). Getting an Uber or taxi from this place is atrocious late at night. We ended up not going out late the second night we were there because of that experience.

It really boils down to which identity one wants to align with: Dragon-I the restaurant or Dragon-I the LKF club. Regarding the former, Dragon-I features an interesting mix of Asian fusion dishes that would make it one of the more higher end choices in Central. Many flock here for their lunch deal, which is an all you can eat affair of nearly 30 Dim Sum dishes. The quality is rather decent, if not pretty good. Their spread feels more western than it does a traditional take on the cuisine, but at $228HKD a person, one could certainly do some damage by playing high afternoon glutton. Then there is the other side, the considerably darker (and louder) one in Dragon-I the nightclub. There are countless tales of douchebaggery and bouncer attitude but the same story could be told at virtually any of the major clubs both past and present. The music varies from eye rolling house music to occasional clusters of quality club hip hop music. Some visiting DJs will put on quite the show, but the regular house DJs are nothing to get amped about. The setup is really advantageous for bottle service folks, which is the only way I've really been acquainted here. Just because some drunkards and I have gone that route doesn't mean our experience has been completely ideal: the cocktail waitresses aren't serving us and the rest of the staff (especially Summer!) have a bit of an attitude at times. I wish they would police the smokers and keep the outsiders from stumbling into table service areas. Whether it's food or nightlife, Dragon-I serves to be an interesting option for all who find themselves along the madness of Wyndham. The outcome is extremely predictable, to which even tossing around a good bit of $$$ doesn't really affect much. I'm indifferent about this place, but I am never opposed to going either. Pretension is a turn off, but like anything in this realm, service is everything.

You may start think that the food will reflect the price and......you would be half way there. I would say that they do serve some surprising items (such as roast beef in thin slices) but some of the other items do seem a little bit tacky such as spring rolls and sausages. However, given you always get a table, its near to the office and you get a full three course meal with a drink- you can't really complain. They never pushed you to return the table by a certain time and I believe they also do this deal over the weekend with a lot more alcohol involved- please check the store for details. We went to it for drinks- Joe Bananas is pretty much an institution in the Wanchai area along with Delaneys , Meis Amis, Dusk till Dawn and a number of others. Its an expat orientated environment though locals could also thoroughly enjoy themselves over a few drinks and with the usual gaggle of girls standing just a bit too close to you for comfort. The band and everything else completes the Wanchai experience and of course if you are really keen they also have t-shirts available. Why would I rate it 5 star? As far as its foibles went I still went there everyday- my house is messed up but I still love it. Same theory.

While the drinks list is comprehensive, I feel that the drinks lack the flair that I'd expect from a bar that has such as resonating reputation among the locals. While I'm used to the classic gin and tonic with a slice of lemon floating in the glass, it is by no means an aesthetic that I expect to see in one of the fancier bars (I mean at least stick a lemon WEDGE on the rim of the glass). While I understand that it is unreasonable to expect 5-star hotel bar aesthetics in a Wan Chai bar, they could do better... and maybe put more gin or just cut down on the tonic in my G&T. I was surprised by the limited selection of bar snacks (paid and otherwise), considering how nachos seemed to be the only option there that wasn't an entree or appetizer. Offering peanuts (even if they charged for them) would've been nice. Service was on par with other bars in the area, i.e. reasonably responsive, and friendly enough.

When you think about night life/entertainment, what comes to mind? For me, it's dancing, drinking, dart, snooker, beer pong and karaoke. They have all of the above - aside from dancing. This place is not massive but considering their space, they make really good use, they have a bar where you order drinks, but where people do shots as well; there's a lounge where you can sit and play drinking games; there's a karaoke room that's adequately sized, sits about 10-12 people. Beer pong - which was what we were doing, and pool. It feels like no one could ever get bored here.. ever! They close at 5, we were there until then, and even though we were all falling asleep, at least everyone wanted to stay to finish their games. I really like the beer pong area, i know, i know.. it's just beer pong. What's special about beer pong here is that there is a regulator! Their staff acts as a referee, whilst providing table service (ie. pouring the beer). Even if you were drunk, it's good to know someone is sober enough to give you all the rules. The booze here is also cheap compared to a lot of places, making it more accessible to drink more! In my opinion, it was a little too bright for a drinking place, so they could have dimmed the lights a little bit. I think we all had lots of fun. Will be back!

Doesn't make for my kind of game...#Murica The staff here was very friendly, with our referee in particular who was very helpful giving us tips on where to go in Hong Kong during out visit. It also seemed like a very local joint, as I didn't hear a lick of English and all Canto. For someone who has ADD at bars, this is a really solid spot. I would have never known this was here because it wasn't on the ground floor in a random building.

LOL. While I visit HK at least 2x a year this will be my new go to pub. Great price, good food.
