UNDISCLOSED FEES AT CHECKOUT.
Local R.

LEAVE THE CALCULATOR AT HOME. Very few items show the prices before you purchase them. This is a convenience store, and you will pay for that convenience. The prices at the register are about 20-40% higher than a standard supermarket. Okay, fine, but at least let us know before we get to the register. The gut punch and a clear indicator of CONTEMPT for the customer is the 10% HIDDEN DELLI CHARGE. Read this carefully, because this is not a comment on the deli prices, although $15 for a deli sandwich (it was good) is a bit high. The INSULT comes at the register again. You go to the deli counter and order a sandwich, you have no idea how much it will cost until you check out. You pay, then as you checkout the register touch pad asks if you would like to leave a tip, so as a good person you leave a few dollars tip. Then you get home and enjoy your purchase. Everything is fine. But a few days later you are cleaning out your pockets ahead of doing laundry and you find the receipt. Looking it over you notice there is a DELI fee of 10%. In addition to the tip you left for the (deli?) on top of the 3.3% fee you are charged for using a credit card. Your $15 deli sandwich becomes a $20.50 sandwich. So this place not only hides their prices, but also overcharges for everything, then on top of it you get charged an additional (UNDISCLOSED) 10% for the privilege of standing in front of the deli counter and picking out a sandwich. This is so unethical, and clearly indicates the owner's contempt for his customers. Treating unsuspecting visitors this way is a disgrace and gives our town a bad reputation. You might as well place a sign on the door that says "NO OUT OF STATE VISITORS WANTED" STOP THIS ridiculous extortion and be honest about your business practices. Be clear about your prices and stop robbing our visitors who are the life's blood of our town. This owner also has a few other properties around town, make sure you review your receipts and try to plan ahead so you don't need to shop there.

Took family snowboarding at Stratton. Nice looking place. Ridiculously expensive. Turkey sandwich was absolutely gross.

Good sandwiches on the way to or from skiing when you don't want to wait in the lines at Stratton.

Perfectly average supermarket experience. The bar is fairly low being in a small town, but Shaws…read moremakes efforts to source some local ingredients, yet will still cover all your basics. They have a beer and wine section, and some prepared foods. The poultry looked appealing. They have made an effort toward improving their customer service, so you'll notice a lot of smiles and greetings here. I found that very pleasant, and the staff was not being disingenuous but truly helpful in their directions. They have a couple aisles devoted to organic/non-GMO foodstuffs, as well as some organic produce, although the greens and fruits could be more bountiful. I have found Vermont, in general, a little lacking in the organic berries and fruit category. It may be somewhat unfair a comparison, but if you're familiar with Whole Foods, Shaws has about 5% the organic selection of the big WH. That said, you'll get almost everything you need here, and I have noticed they have been offering some non-meat centric items, such as Franklin Farms veggie burgers and balls, which are fun. There is a town butcher and cheese monger for that sort of thing elsewhere.

Every time we have come to shop here we have found what we are looking for. The produce section is…read morefilled with plenty of fresh items. The young lady who took care of us at the deli counter was very nice and quick to take care of us. It is a rather large grocery store with plenty of the items we look for and purchase.
