Tikka Shack Indian Grub - Southern Curry with Basmati Rice and Samosa

Tikka Shack Indian Grub

I love Indian food. The amount of people who are so ignorant about Indian food is appaling, and…read morethey need to be educated. Places like Tikka Shack are one of the places that can provide that education. Introducing Indian flavors in familiar dishes is a good way to transform picky eaters into true gormands. I wanted a quick, delicious dinner one evening before heading out on a road trip the next day. So I swung by to see what this recent move-in had to offer sleepy little Oviedo. Ambiance was very, well, Oviedo. A giant mural adorned the wall. Chickens, the Welcome sign, even a sandhill crane. It was very pretty. Service was superb. There was a nice cashier lady who gave off a owner or manager aura. We talked through the menu together and came up with a couple of delicious options for me to order. Option one was the Tikka Chicken Pizza (Tikka Sauce, garlic, fresh mozzarella, red onions, tomatoes on a Naan crust topped with cilantro). This thing was a lot of fun! A nice, thin, crispy crust, and mozz. But accompanied by a delicious tikka sauce. A little freshness from the onions and the tomatoes, and you have a very nice pie here. Something like that pizza is something a kid would try, or a subdued palate adult would try, and act as a gateway dish that would get them deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole that is the best cuisine on the planet. I love it. I also had a curry, which was nice. Very flavorful. I was expecting a little bland, but no, lots of good spice and flavor. Accompanied with a proper amount of basmati rice. Yummy. And I accented the whole meal with a cheesey, garlicky naan. Which is probably universally accepted as the best bread on the planet. Love that naan. Wash it all down with a mango lassi, and this place knocked my socks off. I don't know what brought them here to Oviedo, but I sure am glad they came. It's nice knowing that I have a fast-casual Indian place right down the road. Will definitely be back.

Pros: Love the Oviedo location. Oviedo food has been so…read moreboring for so long, but this place definitely fulfills a need. Food was delicious. Loved the fusion of Indian flavors with more American accessible foods like pizza. Cons: No cons whatsoever. Tips: Get a pizza, get an extra side of rice for your curry, and get all the naan you can afford. So delicious.

Great value, the $6 big box. I can finally get what I want with sides as an extra for less than…read more$10. They didn't ask white or dark or spicy or mild. But I always specify white, and spicy. For this particular deal, I request 2 breasts instead of breast and wing and I let know I'm aware of and willing to pay the upcharge. I don't know what I was originally given but when I was given my total, I let the cashier know it was wrong and repeated my order. She asked if I was willing to take mild instead, so I agreed to it. She wasn't very pleasant so I kinda felt like it was my fault that they got it wrong. Even tho it wasn't... She handed me my food and as I was driving away, handed me napkins and spork. In the end, like I said, it's a great value and the food was good even if I didn't get spicy.

We kindly let her know we were done yet and the attitude started. Every question and answer was one word. We get to the window and we asked for sauces and we told they didn't have the containers... I find it hard to believe there wasn't ONE sauce in the building. We pull over to eat and my order was wrong. So husband walked inside to get the correct order. The sweet old lady working the front was very apologetic and corrected our order. The food was overall fine but the service is terrible!

Marco's Pizza

This particular Marco's Pizza is located in the same shopping plaza on 419 as the Publix. It wasn't…read moretoo long ago that this area was relatively undeveloped, but I was surprised as I pulled up from Chuluota and saw these housing developments, so both the Publix and this Marco's Pizza definitely makes sense. Marco's Pizza is a national pizza chain and while it may not be as well known as Pizza Hut, Domino's or Little Caesars, Marco's Pizza has definitely grown since it was started in 1978 in Oregon, Ohio by Pasquale "Pat" Giammarco. That single location has grown to over 1,100 locations across thirty-three states, as well as having locations in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. The pizza here is definitely recognized as pizza from a national chain, so you will not stop in your tracks and state to the Heavens and regret every moment of your life that you missed out on the pizza from Marco's Pizza, it is also not the worse pizza that you will ever have. Pizza from a national pizza chain is what I consider the fast food version of pizza and while it will never be stellar, Marco's Pizza was a quick option to grab while I was with a group of friends. With that being said, I will give it four stars. Not the best pizza, but definitely the worst and it was a convenient place to grab some pizza on a Sunday evening.

The service was decent, no complaints on that at all. The only comment I have is that they did not honor the discounts from the website. For example, the site says Marcos Pizza has a one-topping medium pizza for $6.99 but at this location it was $7.99. This is a small difference but as a customer I felt shorted. I understand that different locations have different deals but given that the other location is closed right now, I would've appreciated it if they honored what's on the site for the time being.
