Sitting in my car for curb side service! You guys are awesome.

They had closed early because of covid hours and I didn't know this when I called. They asked if I was outside. When I told them I was they came out to look at my prescription from herbalist doctor and they were so sweet. They said they would do it up for me to save me a trip. Little did they know I was all the way from La Center Washington!! Hoping these herbs get me on the right track to feeling better. Thank you!

Ah yes, all kinds of roots and herbs ... If you're Chinese or your mom, dad, in-laws, or aunt is Chinese in Portland, Wing Ming Herbs rings of comfort food, herbs, snacks, medicines, and more. It's a dingy and dinky store (with matching small parking lot), but I'm glad Wing Ming is here to fill a large void in our lives for traditional Chinese items. Wing Ming is also a good place to get a phone card for calling back to China or Taiwan. If you speak Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), you'll probably get a little better deal, too. So, invite your mom, dad, in-laws, or aunt to join you. They'll find the little things they've missed for years while you get a good deal on a few hard to find Chinese goods.

This is a small, but stuffed Chinese shop that we go to for herbs we use on a "grumpy" dog. Many many years ago, I Vet we went to had gotten into Chinese medicine after he had a stroke. Western medicine didn't do enough for him, so as an Doctor of medicine himself, he studied Chinese medicine to help himself. He used what he had learned and started offering it to dogs. Our dog was one of his first. We took a few dogs to this Vet for general care, and when it might help, Chinese herbs. I had the foresight once to have him write down the recipe to the Chinese herbal mix that we had been getting from him for what is best described as a grumpy dog. Years later, unfortunately this wonderful that passed away from a heart attack. I research the recipe made some very minor changes to it, and then we went to this herb shop. We buy the tea pills, take them home and use a coffee grinder to turn it to powder. We continued to give it successfully to our dog, and it worked. That dog has since passed. Now we are caring for another dog that might benefit from this herbal blend and so here we are again. At this visit I was left on my own, but that was okay. No complaints.

Summertime rolls...Jane's Addiction harmony in my head…read more On a holiday in the sun like Weezer in the lovely Pacific NW in the Summertime decided to do a yatra aka pilgrimage to People's Co-op. I lived walking distance from People's Co-op circa 2004 where I lived right across from the now defunct all vegan coffeeshop aka Red and Black. In 2004-2005 I was a working member cleaning the bulk bins as my seva aka service. This is where I first started teaching yoga at the community room upstairs at People's Co-op. Dusty started the program that sadly is no longer currently active. They had some great classes there and have fond memories of a Iyenger influenced yoga teacher that taught classes I liked. This was when I was teaching classical hatha yoga and had not yet shifted my yoga teaching to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. Fast forward to the moment of Jun 20223. It's the return and went to People's Co-op. It still is an amazing place. They have a farmer's market here every Wed. Their bulk selection is amazing (see my photos) and so is there produce. Friendly and helpful staff. Afterwards go to Belmont for heaps of plant based, vegetable forward, tasty, amazing vegan restaurants and food trucks that are amazing. Vegan bars, vegan food trucks, innovative vegan restaurants like Fermenter, and more that will satisfy all folks who follow whatever diet from vegan to paleo to gluten-free to omnivore.

I REALLY appreciate buying truly only what I need in bulk vs committing to "bulk" packaging like Natural Grocers does. The people working there were nice and friendly - check out was easy and the human was helpful in answering my questions about the co-op. I've only been once - I'll go back - it's not convenient for me to get to on the regular so I'm not sure how often I'll be able to go. But my first time there was a fun time exploring :)

There…read moreis lots of convenient parking on the second level (accessed from the east side of the building across the street from SuperCuts) This is a very large Whole Foods location with all the conveniences one would expect. Their meat, cheese, bakery and freshly prepared foods sections are unparalleled. I come here for all my entertaining supplies, and sumptuous delicacies. Their petits four tea cakes are always available, absolutely darling, and crowd-pleasing. Whole Foods pricing is a bit higher than other markets in town, but this market carries many excellent products I can't find elsewhere. So you get what you pay for and I'm okay with that.

Whole Foods along Sandy Blvd stands out for all the right reasons: immaculately clean,…read morewell-organized, orderly, and visually appealing. The space is expansive and thoughtfully designed, with just enough of a laid back vibe that makes one forget about the immediate gentrification of the neighborhood, while also being aware that someone might just take something and run at a moment's notice. (#1) From the produce section to the prepared foods, every corner of the store reflects a high level of attention to detail. The real highlight during my visit was the bakery department. I came in expecting a standard pre-made cake and left with something that bordered on a work of art. The staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly take pride in what they do--especially when it comes to cake decoration. The lettering was precise, the presentation flawless, and the result exceeded expectations in both appearance and service. If there's one consistent drawback, it's parking. Street parking in this part of Portland is often difficult and requires patience. It's not unique to this location, but it's worth noting if you're visiting during peak hours. Still, once inside, the store does a remarkable job delivering on what the brand promises--and in this case, perhaps a little more. ___________ (#1) A terrible west coast retail reference.
