We were referred to a well known children's organization to follow up in 2 days. The soonest orthopedic appointment available was 7 days later. Even though her injury was "stable", I didn't want to wait that long. My neighbor is a nurse who used to take care of Dr. Rechter's patients for years. She referred me to his office, and they were able to accommodate us the next day at the Katy location. The experience was extremely positive, from check in to check out. Dr. Rechter's bedside manner is professional, yet endearing. He confirmed the type of fracture and recommended continuing the sling for 2 weeks to allow the humerus to heal. We will then repeat the x-ray, and he will show her exercises to do and avoid to prevent reinjury. He asked about her pain, and it was well controlled with Tylenol and Ibuprofen. As patients, we see a limited side of our providers, yet we place our complete trust in their hands. My neighbor adds that not only do his patients love him, but he has the respect of his colleagues too. Her words, "Dr. Rechter is impeccable and the most genuine doctor" she's ever known. She commends his positive demeanor and expertise. Health care professionals have the best insight into physicians. I'm in no way criticizing the network where I was referred, but if my daughter did need surgery, I would wait weeks to see Dr. Rechter if I had to. During my surgery you should have not done a thing if my knee was too complicated for you. I could have gone to someone with more knowledge on complex meniscus tears. Saturday the nerve block was leaking so we went to the ER to have it checked. They called Dr. Ali and was told to remove it. That was it - remove the pain management that was in place for 4 to 6 days and not replacement with other pain management. He had been given prescritions for Tramadol and Oxycodene and told to take those. Naturally he was in a lot of pain and was unable to do exercises, walk - all the things he was instructed to do. Monday about 8 am I called and sent a My Chart message to Dr. Ali asking if he could get home PT until he was able to walk or what could be done to help him. He was scheduled to start PT on Monday, but he could not put any weight on his leg, couldn't walk and definitely couldn't get in and out of a vehicle to go to PT. At about 4:45 pm I called Dr. Ali's office again since we hadn't gotten a response. Was told that they take 48 hrs. to respond. Are you kidding me? You have a patient post surgery in severe pain and you'll get back to us in 48 hrs? Ridiculous. When Dr. Ali told the ER Dept. to remove the nerve block after just over 24 hours he should have given my husband some alternative pain management. The nurse should have questioned that they were removing it and not given an alternative. There's an epidemic in this country of drug addiction and the doctors are creating the problem by prescribing narcotics as the only pain management. The lack of concern by surgeons and hospitals is frightening. The medical field is not what it use to be.
