No prices or menu in the drive thru. Just Specials & bakery pictures. 30 minutes to get through 2 cars. These have been standard for about 5 years. But today.... I waited out of the drive thru for 2 cars to get through (a third pulled in & left) then I went in and guessed an order at the person. Pretty dang friendly. We jived a little, it was fun, we made it work. I will now replay the conversation as it followed: Emp: "Can I get'cha anything else?" Me: "Ah, sure [X]" Emp: "We don't have [X]. I thiiiink that [Y] is about the closest" Me: "Well I'll do it" Emp: "Excellent. You want a cookie?" Me: "Uuuummmm..." Emp: "M&m, only here for a short time" Me: "Uuuhh, sure." Emp: "Why don't you just get one of every cookie?" Me: "Naw...I don't think I can swing tha-" Emp: "Why not?" ........ Me: "-Wha?" Emp: "Why not?" Me: "I... don't want an-" Emp: "Why not? They're only a dollar each." Me: "Huh- um- they are? Okay..." Emp: "Yeah!" *adds them to order* "Yep, they're $1.39 each" Me: "Wai-" Emp: "Are you on drugs?" *stunned silence* Me: "Aw yeah, yeah of course" Emp: "Really?" Me: "uh, nevermind" Emp: "So you're sober?" This person was now staring into my soul. I thought that was a joke. Emp: "When was the last time?" Me: "I mean, my liver's clean." Emp: "So you're not sober..." They sank their head. They looked genuinely heartbroken They then spent the next 15 minutes trying to convince me to go to rehab, cut me off every time I tried to answer their questions, then ended with trying to bring me to Jesus. I mentioned money issues in regular conversation, and they cut me off to scream that I needed to get off drugs. To emphasize, I am not on drugs, and I do know Jesus. However, this employee had already decided my reality. Then they asked for a tip. My husband and I loved this place. It was a must stop by place when passing through Ellensburg. We even recommended this place to friends and family. Unfortunately after today we will no longer be supporting this business. With the service we received and the cake pop covered in mold was just a no for us. As a new breastfeeding mother, the last thing I need is food poisoning. As for the service, we drove up to the second window and the staff seemed like they didn't know what they were doing. I have normally had amazing service. I walked up today at 8:30, the hours state they are open until 9. I said that the hours posted 9 the staff member said don't know they were supposed to update it, it's not my responsibility. I've had businesses for 16 years and have now worked corporate accounts for 5 years and that type of response/ service is unacceptable. I bought the Huckleberry ice cream. Found out , after buying it, there are no huckleberries in it. But you know what it does have? It has blueberries. Nothing huckleberry. It does not even have huckleberry extract. After looking at the ingredients list looking for it, I discovered it has instead: Corn syrup artificial flavors Artifical colors alcohol bean gum guar gum disodium phosphate Mono and diglycerides aluminosilicate potassium chloride. Instead of huckleberry ice cream I got ice cream full of cheap fillers trying to pass as real ice cream with real ( not artificial) flavor. They put CRAP in their ice cream! It has red dye #40 and blue dye #1 in the VICKIE BERRY ice cream, not to mention corn syrup which causes FATTY LIVER. These dyes are chemicals that can build up toxicity in the Liver when the Liver can't handle all the toxins it gets, causing Liver Toxicity which is one of the 5 causes of Liver Cancer. Nice, relatively clean ice cream shop on University here in town. about 20 flavors (I think?). Prices unreasonably high - at least for portion size, and I use 'Scoopers' in Long Beach, WA as a comparison. Scoopers uses local ice creams as well and i think just as good. For about the same price per scoop you get roughly double what Winegars gives you. My wife got a single scoop and it looked pathetic. The 'double scoop' barely fills the cup they use for both. if you're looking for any value here just go for the pre-packed quarts, you'll get way more for your money. Its ok for a once-in-a-while social thing, but I wont be running here for my ice-cream fix. read more

Back in Iowa there was an ice cream chain called Whiteys that used a higher fat content milk to make their ice cream - I only know this because my grandfather is a dairy farmer it currently has an inside scoop on the knowledge of milk fat and ice cream places Dash and the stuff is amazing. The ice cream here reminds me of the ice cream there, and is equally amazing! They have 20+ flavors that are all creative just plain wonderful! They range from flavors like a classic strawberry sorbet and classic chocolate, all the way up to funky combinations that really work well together. We happen to come on a week where they were highlighting a different banana split. It probably been 20 years since I've had one, and three of us ended up sharing what was probably the best banana split we've ever had. I don't remember the name exactly, but I know it had Peanut butter, three scoops of ice cream and some delicious fruit. Three of us enjoyed it, including our three-year-old who absolutely housed a good portion of it! They also operate a coffee shop and small restaurant inside. They make homemade ice cream right here in Ellensburg. During the summer we popped in and tried one of their flavors. This place and its sister store are right by the college and serve coffee and sandwiches and other light fare. I can't comment on that because I've only been in for ice cream. It also has that legendary it's been here forever vibe. Lots of friendly people sitting at tables studying and hanging out and just regulars coming in for this and that. read more

Update - the cotton candy ice cream is still the best I can find between here and spokane, nothing compares. It is heavenly!! Service has improved a ton too, they even knew us and our order last night (Friday). Those two girls are my favorite baristas and scoopers. They're so sweet. They sell some of there ice cream in to go pints there and at the super 1. It is a good deal a pint for $6. I am waiting to be able to get the same deal in house, of any kind of ice cream (specifically cotton candy) and toppings to go in a pint, that would tickle me pink!! Right now it is three scoops for $8 plus tip, a little steep. And sometimes the scoops, cups, and servings are inconsistent. I stopped at Winegar's with my family on our way home and was thoroughly impressed. The house-made ice cream was excellent and the prices were low, but their service was the best part. I would absolutely stop here again if I were in the area. There was a very large selection of interesting flavors, and they were happy to let us sample a bunch of them. The samples were big and they also provided recommendations for good flavor combinations. In the end, I got the Ultimate Scoop, which lived up to its name! It was an enormous, four-flavor monster (Kori's Coffee, Jacob Caramel Brownie, Kookie Kayla, and Garydough). In the name of research, I even topped it off with one of their house-made waffle cones. The results were positive. :) The shop had a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere and a ton of seating. It's the kind of place that makes you want to hang out with your friends. Next time, I'd like to stay for a while to drink a coffee while reading a book. There's a rewards program, too, but I didn't get the details since I'm not from the area. read more

Okay so Winegar's iced coffee is fantastic and their red bulls are good! The ice cream I've only heard about but the bagel breakfast sandwich... every single time I've ordered it it comes out with a frozen egg. So my suggestion is tell them to OVERCOOK the bagel sandwich or it will literally be frozen and Cold. I've Probably wasted 45$ on sandwich's I toss in trash cuz they're cold. read more

The three things that really keep me coming back to this place are: 1) their always-friendly staff members; 2) rewards program; and 3) early morning/late night hours & specials. The espresso drinks are always prepared well and the ice cream flavors are fun and tasty, but to me it seems like there is a slight "chemical aftertaste" (for lack of a better description) to some of their flavors. Despite some of the hit-or-miss flavors, they do have original ice cream combinations that I absolutely love (like Kevinlicious, amaretto-flavored ice cream with chocolate chunks) and I find their mom-and-pops charm endearing, so I will definitely be a Winegar's customer for life! read more

Anyone who would give Winegar's less than 5 stars must hate ice cream. They use a high fat mixture of cream, milk and sugar. Their flavors are stunning, and available in to go containers. I would recommend this over any other ice cream. Plus, their milkshakes are awesome. I would say that there are two locations -- The one on university is far better. read more
