If you like brew pubs, Chafunkta Brewing is a really cool spot…read more It is not as polished or fancy as nearby Abita Brew Pub, but that is kind of the point. This is the actual brewery. It sits in a warehouse area, the brewing operation is right there in the back, and the whole place feels like the real deal. The beers are great, the service is friendly, and the vibe is super laid back. We stopped by on a random Saturday and they had a food vendor set up along with a pretty solid musician playing. It was warm, because Louisiana, but the big industrial fans kept things comfortable for the most part. This is not the place to dress up. Wear something comfortable, grab a few beers, hang out, listen to some music, and enjoy a brewery that actually feels like a brewery. Also, if you are riding the Tammany Trace, they are not that far away. So ride your bike over, stop in, and replenish those electrolytes with an IPA or two. That is how electrolytes work, right? Then ride slowly.

My wife and I have enjoyed lunch several times at DiMartino's in Covington, but tonight we did…read moredinner. DiMartino's takes on an enhanced elegant ambiance in the evening and the menu reflects this. Service was very good as always. My wife enjoyed her favorite lasagna, which was quite good as usual. I had the salmon with vinaigrette glaze and it was quite good as well. It's easy to get salmon too done, but no such problem here. Succulent and tasty, just as it should be, with the glaze adding just the right zesty edge. The house Pinot Grigio was excellent with the fish. I also had a very good Caesar salad that complimented the fish and the broccoli side. In this case, the broccoli was somewhat tough with a slightly overpowering parmesan covering. Perhaps a little more butter and a little less cheese would be better? On the whole, dinner was great and we highly recommend DiMartino's for both lunch and dinner.

I love going places with Freckles McWolfington III, esq. He's my best little buddy and is always up for a ride in the truck, especially if it involves pets from strangers. Freki has got to be the friendliest pup I've ever met - if you see us out, be sure to say hi! The brewery is big and spacious, often hosting trivia nights and parties, and they showcase a LOT of great beer on tap. I'm kind of stuck on the AndyGator, but the selection is crazy huge. Come in and get a flight or two, bring your DD, and promise to switch roles on the next visit - that's how you brewery responsibly! Or Uber, someone's out there waiting to hear all about your visit as they drive you home. Love the folks here - the service is always terrific. No rush, take your time, ask questions, talk taste...these guys got you, man. We love to hang here because of the dog park area just outside, where you can sit in the shade, enjoy that beautiful dark golden brew, and watch your dogs check out every square inch of prime sniffing real estate. My little dude loves to watch for new people, so when you see him run - he's a chonk, but he's still a runner - up, give him a scratch and "good boy," he's gonna love it. On occasion, there's a food truck parked outside with tasty snacks, like the amazing pesto chicken sandwich I had a few weeks ago. The Abita Brewery is definitely a keeper and way up on the "repeat visit" list.
