Wine Thief is a cozy little wine bar situated on the first floor of the Omni Hotel. I really love the ambiance as it is usually dimly lit, a nice escape from the brutal Texas heat. For the more temperate fall and spring days, there is patio seating if you want to enjoy your wine alfresco. Since it is in the Omni, expect the prices to be a bit higher then they would at other wine bars. On their website, it looked like they used to offer 1/2 price bottles on certain days of the week but have discontinued that deal. I would appreciate some kind of happy hour special, so I can sample some of the even pricer wines! The staff was friendly and helpful and I witnessed one bartender handle a particularly difficult customer with ease and grace. This is an adorable wine bar with a good variety of wines. They had a lovely tawny port from Australia for $15. The chairs at the bar and leather and soft and comfy. Jazz was playing softly. If I lived here, I'd come in here a lot. read more

I love Wine Thief. It's upscale and a hidden gem. My friends and I normally try to do the once a month wine tastings. Phil Natale is extremely helpful and responsive to making reservations and anything else you may need. A normal wine tasting is 6 flights and three small plates that come from Bob's next door so although the price has increased this year, you are still getting your money's worth. You will definitely leave full, buzzed, more knowledgeable and happy with a fun experience and a memory you made with friends. read more

We love Wine Thief as a pre-dinner drink spot while staying at the Omni. The atmosphere is dark and classy inside with lush booths, bar top seating, and low-top tables, but light and comfortable outside on the small patio. It closes earlier than anything else in the Omni, but it is a great alternative to the always crowded and lively Whiskey & Rye bar. The wine list is pricey compared to other wine bars in the area, but the quality of the wines can justify the higher price point. Service is friendly, but short and sweet. This place can get pretty busy around dinnertime, so be sure to let the bartender know if you are on a short timetable. We have never tried any of the food items, but definitely want to. The small tapas/appetizer menu is meant to share, and the pizzas seems to always be in high demand. Far as I could tell no one stole anything directly, nor was there any sort of an investigation going on when I slipped in, menu in hand, to see what might possibly be happening with the current menu. All of the wine seemed to be present and accounted for. That said, occasionally these experiences are best borne out by the characters that you encounter, and there's not much more entertaining on this planet than the guy in the Deep Purple shirt and the France hat (same font? maybe), who had nothing but constant unsolicited advice for our bartender from the time he sat down: about how they do things in NY, London, lots of opinions about napkins and vintages and protocol. It really was fascinating stuff, and were it that I could get a film crew and Dr. Drew in place in order to solve the matter that would have been one thing. But in this case we were relegated to a particularly patient barkeep and an otherwise mellow room. It made for grand people watching but my genuine guess is that most nights in here things tend toward relaxing - at the very least that seems to be the aim here, and it by my estimation means a little that they seemed to do as much local bidness this night as was charged to a room. It's not a perfect arrangement: the Omni in general can still occasionally wax a little precious, but that wasn't my experience here - the staff was attentive, pretty patient, and available. There may be no magic formula but the first step is being human. And this night, in Wine Thief, they were. No sirens necessary. read more

Wine Thief huh? That's exactly what this wine bar is...a thief. The second star is for their honesty in having who they are in the name and for the great service. We stayed at the new Omni hotel in Fort Worth this past weekend and after checking in on a Friday night our group decided to grab a drink. Instead of going out, catching a cab or the trolley, we decided to stay in and check out the Wine Thief. The bar is small, clean and simple. It really is an attractive bar with about 14 tables and a half dozen seats at the bar with a few more tables outside. After looking at the menu we each began to look over our menu to see if everyone else was thinking the same thing...the prices that Wine Thief is commanding are ridiculously high. Looking at the menu a little longer I realized that every single glass of wine was exactly a third the price of the bottle. $80 bottle $26 glass. I am not one to shy away from paying for a great bottle of wine or dinner, but there comes a point of reason when it's apparent that Wine Thief is taking their guests for fools. Ritz Carlton prices at the Omni. The ladies each ordered a flight of wine (Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc) which is the best deal on the menu. Four flights are offered, three of which are white and one red, so if you're a red drinker you have one option. I stuck with a cocktail. One of the guys in our group is a wine collector and even he passed on the wine and opted for a cocktail as well. The service was outstanding. There was only one person working the entire room, granted it was just our table of six and another five people outside, but she took great care of us. We never waited for a thing and she was very helpful with the menu. The hotel was completely booked for the weekend and yet there was only one person scheduled to work Wine Thief, which tells me that even at capacity the hotel wasn't expecting much business...maybe is the astronomical prices. read more

At first I was greeted with reserve (not so much w/ the Texas friendliness that makes the heat somewhat more tolerable). I was VERY thankful for reading the Yelp reviews because I learned about the 1/2 off bottles on Thursdays. When I sat down, I asked if there were any deals, and she told me no. Then I looked again on my phone and verified what other Yelpers mentioned, and indeed it was Thursday, and there should have been a deal. I asked again, but was more specific, and she said, "oh yes, we have that deal, but only for people that know about it". Such total crap. I really don't like when places do that kind of stuff. The prices are pretty high, and the fact that they are more than happy to screw over someone because they don't know about the deal makes it more annoying. I'm not a fan. But I was chatted up by some of the other employees, the wine was good, the people-watching interesting, and the atmosphere pleasant. It would have made me really happy had they had a better wine list (some cheaper options), more food options, and a friendlier disposition since it was so close to where I was staying while in FW. As it stands, there's no reason for me to return again during any future FW trips. read more

Really nice and surprisingly quiet nook of the Omni Hotel... excellent beef, good salmon, and well-made martinis (in addition to the less-stout eponymous offerings). You hardly get any hotel noise, and it's small enough to keep the place from getting too rowdy. Great for an informal get-together or casual meeting. Service was exemplary; knowledgeable about the menu, present without being overwhelming, and fastidiously friendly and polite. Love this place! Perhaps it is because it is in within walking distance of where I live, or the awesome bartender, Bri! They have a great wine selection and knowledgeable staff. On Wednesdays they have 1/2 price sparkling wines and on Thursdays 1/2 price bottles. So, if you are concerned about cost, go either of these nights and take advantage of a great deal! Wine Thief pours 3.5 glasses of wine per bottle. For those of you that are concerned about value per glass....that means it is a pretty good value. Wine Thief also serves beer and liquor. This was not always the case. So for those non wine lovers; you've got options too. For those that smoke cigars; ask for the cigar menu. There is seating outside with comfortable chairs which will allow you to smoke your cigar and enjoy your wine. Oh and I almost forgot!!! Ernesto was really what made my stay at the Omni. Went to Wine Thief to grab dinner to go. Ernesto took the time to show me both menus, and share that I could order anything from the restaurant menu even though they were closed. The bar was empty my first night, so I sat there and enjoyed a glass of wine while he worked behind the bar, chatting a tiny bit. The second night, the bar was full of men, presumably from a conference or event, with a couple empty seats. I wasn't into chatting, so I walked to the end of the bar. Ernesto came right over, remembered my name, and offered to get me the same thing I'd had the night before, which was exactly what I'd wanted. It was such a tiny thing that really made me happy- I'm sure you've all had those days while traveling for work. He brought me a glass of wine, to the table I sat at quietly by myself, and checked back with me in a few minutes, letting me know it would be 4 minutes until my food was ready. I had my food and check in probably less than 10 minutes total, with that nice sense that I was being looked after, in the way I wanted to be, by Ernesto. I really appreciated that. read more
