Nothing to see apparently, as it is just a wood blockhouse with a dirt floor, and only ever had one inmate. For one night. (His pig apparently escaped and did some damage to the neighbors' gardens). I visited two of the four buildings: 1) a spacious log cabin built as a tribute to the Pioneer Woman in 1931, later relocated up here to get out of harm's way from flooding. 2) the restored Newell House, built in 1852, on a hill above what was the town of Champoeg. When the town was destroyed in the flood of 1861, all 200 residents shared the house in the aftermath. The upstairs of the Newell House houses a display of actual evening gowns of Oregon's First Ladies from the beginning until 1992, quite interesting. Knowledgeable and friendly guides tailor the tours and stories to the visitor's interests. The grounds are pleasant and well-tended. All in all, a nice place to visit.

Hours are pretty limited, so make sure to check the website before you visit. I was really impressed with this museum. The curator gave us a tour, and she was very excited to share the history of the house. The details she provided really brought the visit to life, and made it a great experience rather than just a good one. She shared details such as how they've had people come in to inspect the appropriateness of the furniture and such for the time period, and they are pretty rigorous about only keeping things on display that would have been used at the time. They even had some original furniture that they highlighted in the tour. The house was in really good condition, and the displays were great. I learned a lot of things about our 31st president that I hadn't known previously; not only did they talk through his history as a child while he lived in the house, but they provided information on his entire life and put it all in a historical context. Overall, this museum is worth a visit, especially considering how inexpensive the entry fee is.

The van that she transported us in was very spacious for our group. She provided us with water bottles, a special sweet treat and allowed us to charge our phones. Attended the 25th Anniversary of the Frank Lloyd Wright "Gordon House" at its current location. It…read morewas built in 1963, (a few years after Frank Lloyd Wright's death) for Conrad and Evelyn Gordon of Wilsonville, OR. The House was saved from being torn down in 2001 by being deconstructed. Then moved 40 miles over to Silverton. We were able to tour the yard, and the 1st and second floors. Each space was unique with angular wood work, colored concrete and light pouring in through wide panes of glass. All typical of FLW architecture, which he referred to as "Usonian". Simple, beautiful and functional. There were cupcakes, coloring activities and a pianist along with specialists answering questions throughout the home. My favorite part was the red kitchen and skylight. Afterwards we went over to the Oregon Garden right next door. It was two great properties to explore on a beautiful day. Highly recommend both!

Perched above Portland, it gives you that sweeping city + mountain view that feels almost unreal on a clear day. Fun fact: the mansion was built in 1914 for Henry and Georgiana Pittock, and it played a big role in Portland's early publishing history. Another fun one... it was nearly destroyed in the 1962 Columbus Day Storm but was fully restored, which feels very fitting for something this iconic. Gorgeous, peaceful, and 100 percent worth the stop.

Yes, you can bring your own food n board. Our birthday girl brought a stack of pizzas, chips, dips and a birthday cake. Yes, they get you as up close to the falls as legally allowed. Yes, there are plenty of tables and comfy sofa style benches to relax on while you take in the sunset. Yes, they have bluetooth speakers so you can all jam to your favorite tunes. Yes, they provide a karaoke machine so your party can garble the 2 whole hours if they want. I really can't think of a downside except that the birthday girl kept saying that she wished the night wouldn't end. Thanks to the great staff who kept the drinks flowing and go us off on time and gave us a little extra time to enjoy ourselves.

The museum consist of two large buildings, one focused on aviation, including the spruce goose, the other focused on space along with some highly specialized planes, including an SR-71. Over the last few years I've had unique experiences including going on a cockpit tour of the spruce goose, meeting, some of the SR-71 pilots and countless other events. In the winter time, the museum has set up a little miniature ice skating rink behind the spruce goose and the planes are decorated in Holiday lights. You really need to dedicate several hours for seeing the museum and even still you could spend more time. On the same campus is a water park that has a separate admission but is incredibly fun since you get to go on the water slides out of an emergency exit of a airplane. They are also in the process of building an event center which can be used for meetings and weddings.
