I'm writing this review about this specific store, so it should not be taken as indicative of all wine country stores.
I went in to browse their selection, and saw a bottle of Macallan 18 for 184.99. Now I love my Macallan and I was pretty interested, but I remembered that when I walked into the store, I saw a flier that advertised 25% off wine and 10% of spirits when 6 bottles or more were purchased on Tuesdays. So I spoke to the manager that was there, an older white gentleman, and said that I was interested in purchasing the bottle of Macallan 18, and I said that if they could give me the Tuesday discount, I'd buy 5 bottles of wine in addition to the bottle of Macallan 18, just so that I was qualified for the discount.
The manager agreed and so I took 5 bottles of wine at about $20 per bottle, plus the bottle of Macallan 18. The problem started when I went to pay. The cashier rang up the items with the discount, and the total came to about $270, but the register didn't display the item price as they were rung up. So I paid the total and looked at my receipt when the cashier handed it to me, and it showed the Macallan 18 at $210!!!! So the price with the 10% discount was $189, 5 DOLLARS MORE THAN THE PRICE ON THE STICKER!!!
I pointed this out to the cashier who then called the manager over, and he got really upset and rude and said that there was a mistake and that the real price of the Macallan 18 was $210. When I said that I wanted to return it as I would have never purchased it at that price, he got really upset and said I couldn't do returns, and when I complained, he made me go to the back of the line, announcing to all the customers that I was being rude. In addition, I was trying to apologize to him over the situation (FOR THE STORES MISTAKE!!) saying that I understand mistakes happen but that because the Macallan 18 didn't have a sale sticker, I was operating under the assumption that $184.99 was the correct price and that I was even buying the 5 extra bottles of mid-priced wine just because I wanted to qualify for the discount and this manager kept cutting me off, yelling loudly "I'M NOT AN IDIOT!", and refusing to let me complete a sentence.
Overall, it was an incredibly embarrassing experience. I would have completely understood if he couldn't honor a price that was a mistake, but he should not have been so rude about it. My purchase today should have been about $250, and I would have come back many times, as I buy about a case every two weeks. This store lost a customer, not because of pricing but because of the attitude of the management.
If you're thinking about going to this shop to buy wines or spirits, I recommend going elsewhere, where the management won't treat you like crap and you might even find a better deal. read more
