I met my wife's coworker and his friends up here for a wine tasting and enjoyed it. The land surrounding it is beautiful, and it's tucked away nicely. The little tasting barn wasn't the nicest, it's sort of just a space. However, our hostess was awesome, personable, and helped make everything really fun. I really enjoyed a few of the wines! I'm not normally enamored with Kansas wines, but there were a few that were absolutely hitting the spot on this summer evening. We went out here this summer to hear some live music. Our friend was playing with his band. Great idea on a summer night to enjoy friends, wine and music outside. You could bring your own snack and relax at a picnic table. But the only other drink you could bring was water. They did have a bbq stand with some pricy but tasty sandwiches. Downside, their wine is not that great so we were stuck with water. I liked that you could see the grapes on the vine and there's a nice pond in front. The setting was pretty. There's not really anything to tour, so if you come out when there's not live music there's not much to see or do. Plus the staff really were not very nice. Our friends didn't know and tried to bring their own beer. This staff lady yelled at them like they were kids in front of everyone. Then threaten to kick them out if they didn't dispose of the beer immediately. Later we found out from someone else that beer violated their liquor license and they could get in trouble. So why not calmly explain that and ask them to toss it. Rather than yelling at them in front of everyone. Would have left immediately after that but had promised our buddy we'd stay to hear his band. read more

I am sorry Wine Barn, but I can only give you 1 star. Mediocre wine and terrible service. We went in for a wine tasting on a Sunday. They were slow. There was only one other couple in the tasting room and there were two people working there. We take a seat at a table and the guy working there comes over to us. He hands us a laminated sheet and says rudely, "This side is red and this side is white. You can buy our wines buy the bottle, the glass or a predetermined flight." And then he adds impatiently, "What do you want?" We asked if you could sample without getting a flight and he said that you can get two free samples each. I decided to get the white flight and the other two in my group went for the two samples of their choice. He pours two samples and drops them off at our table to the other people in my group. He doesn't say what they are, he doesn't give any explanation of what you can look for in the taste or smell, nor does he mention any pairings. He literally just puts a glass of wine in front of each of them and walks away. They decided to taste what they had and then had to guess which one of the two it was that they ordered. He then pours my flight and brings it over to the table. Its a tray marked under each glass with the wine it contains. Again, he doesn't explain anything but it is marked from #1-6. So I start tasting. The wines are just okay. I maybe would have liked them better if I was allowed to choose what I was tasting. Instead I was served a mix of dry and sweet. When he brought over the second sampling of wine for the other two in my group, he did the same thing where he dropped off the wine but with no explanation or even the name of what he had poured them. At that point, we just put the $5 on the table (that is how much a flight costs) and then we left. Some simple advice Wine Barn, if you want someone to enjoy and appreciate your wine (and most of all buy some!), have your servers take a few moments to go over the wines with your customers. And for goodness sakes, lower the cost per bottle. Your wine is not worth the $15-$20 you are charging. read more

I was given a Groupon as a gift for this winery. It was a free tasting with 10 people. So I had some of my friends come out and try some of their wines and they also had some appetizers. It was really easy to plan and the owner was the one hosting the tasting and he was friendly and did a great job telling us how the wines are produced. He was knowledgeable and entertaining. They have a large variety of wines, and I love several of their whites. My favorite is their Traminette. My husband loves the Chocolate Raspberry. I have also been to their Friday night live music shows. Their location is always neat and clean and it's beautiful. They have a small lake and a fountain in it and I know several weddings have taken place there. read more

I got a groupon for the tasting with apps for up to 10 people. I am mostly a dry wine fan, so I was a little disappointed when I was told they were out of most of their dry wines. However, once the tasting started, I noticed their mildly sweet wines were pretty good as well. We had some dip and veggies and crackers and cheese for our apps. There were several of the wines that I liked and took home. Being from Wyandotte County, the Original dotte label gets me every time...so of course one of those came home with me too (even though it was not one of my favorite wines). The toppers for me were Vignoles, Holiday Wine (limited time only), Riesling, and Louise Swenson. Once he gets the other dry wines up and going again (about a year), I'd love to come back and try those as well...but not paying that much to do so. There is definitely something for everyone here. *Side note-if you come to their (or any winery's) summer music or events...it's illegal to bring your own booze of any kind. They can have their liquor license pulled for this. The tasting room is pretty small but it gets the job done. We liked all their wines and the hostess was great.

I had a great groupon for this place for a group wine tasting and we had a blast. We tried ten wines who light appetizers in the building's little barn. It truly is a barn, so it's not anything fancy. During the summers they have live music where you can bring a picnic and friends and family and sip on wine. read more

Love having this winery in 'the dotte' - their wines are definitely on the sweeter side, which isnt really my thing, but they're really great, despite the sweet. Came here with some friends for a tasting based on a Groupon she bought. The guy running it was incredibly kind, and even let us try a couple that weren't originally on the line up. read more

I was given a groupon wine tasting as a gift. My friends and I had a wonderful time tasting their wines and visiting with the owner. The location was beautiful and the facilities were clean. The tasting came with light appetizers which were nothing special, but we were they to drink wine anyway. Looking forward to trying to get out there for their summer concerts. read more

Don't waste your time. Extremely rude staff. If it weren't for the fact that we had guests arriving for an event we would have packed up our things and left. Even though we had planned this event for 200 people with tent, catering, jazz band, and we were the only guests on site, the staff complained how we parked, several times told the jazz band that the music was too loud and worse of all yelled at one of our hostesses because our hostess asked his wife if she was pregnant in light conversation. I have NEVER seen anything like it. Again don't waste your time, to boot the wine wasn't worth it, better off with two buck chuck! read more

I really enjoyed the wine barn, and will definitely return. The owners are gracious, not snobs, friendly and are very helpful. They have some good wines, some are just okay. This was the worst experience I've ever had in a "professional" environment. The wines were decent, I guess, but completely eclipsed by the incredibly rude reception we received. Our host appeared intoxicated from the get-go, but offered that she was exhausted from a wedding that the establishment hosted earlier that day. It became apparent as the night went on that she was operating under the influence of much more than exhaustion. We paid for a two hour wine tasting and were being ushered out after an hour. None of us is sure why she was expecting us to leave an hour after we arrived for our (paid in full) two hour tasting. As things became increasingly uncomfortable, we arranged for our transportation to pick us up earlier and gathered by the door. As we waited, our host swayed back and forth, muttering under her breath, like our business was an imposition. A friend (trying to diffuse tension) asked if the bottle our host was clutching was her favorite and she muttered a (very audible) "f*%k you, ladies."
