This area also houses the gift shop and the first few exhibits that include various historical items and paintings. Don't judge the museum based on this part. The museum is spread across two floors and is handicap accessible. The first floor has exhibits about Indian tribes, sawmills, local life including time period recreations of parlors, bed rooms, and school rooms. A lot of effort was put into these exhibits, and include hands on activities for children including one that involves dress up. This museum also stands out as it has many actual artifacts from the period on display. Towards the back of the first floor are exhibits about Lycoming Counties participation in various wars, the area's fire fighters including antique equipment, and a whole room discussing the county in the 20th Century. There is also a full-size general store, information about the area's canals, and the history of various towns names. This floor alone is more than most museums offer. The bottom floor houses two rooms: The Shempp Model Train Collection and the Hall of Farming, Crafts, and Industry. The Industry Hall has various exhibits discussing wood working, milling, blacksmithing, and Lycoming engines to name a few. These are also well presented, with large exhibits including an blacksmiths shop and two Lycoming engines. The Shempp Model Train Collection could be the most impressive display in the whole museum. A HUGE collection spanning all different eras and gauges, including many rare models. Two large train displays can also be started by button, with other buttons controlling features in the scenes such as gates. Coming here for the trains alone is worth it. Overall, I can't recommend a visit to the Taber Museum enough. It's very well executed with interesting exhibits at a reasonable price. This could be one of the best museums that's a hidden gem in Pennsylvania.

Looked on Yelp and then google maps to get basic info, then check the county tourism website for specific info. as it turns out the Lycoming County Historical Society & Taber Museum are in the same building. Admission was 5.00/pp or 4.00 with AAA discount. It was a large building with different exhibits that explained all about life in the area, from prehistory to modern times. There was info from native american times, the revolutionary war, civil war, lumber era and modern times. There were literally hundreds if not thousands of artifacts and objects from the past. It was a self guided tour that was fairly interesting (to me.) We spent about an hour or so there, checking everything out, reading plaques, looking at paintings (both local and national) and taking pictures. There were several other families visiting the same day. There is also a very large train section in the downstairs part. Im not much or a train guy, but it was pretty neat. Children would certainly have a great time there.

Center the Void…read more First opened in 1928 as the "Capitol Theater," this building just oozes history and charm in the quaint little suburb of Williamsport, PA. It has undergone many changes and remodels over the years, but the interior still retains that old school charm with an element of modern luxurious, like AC. We attended a graduation here for the Pennsylvania College of Technology and it was a pleasant experience. Despite the almost full house, the AC never let up and kept the place a nice cool temp the entire time. And the seats were fine, as In don't recall fussing about in my chair too much. The only bad thing about this place is the lack of a dedicated parking lot, as you'll have to fight for street parking, or go to one of the parking garages a few blocks away (free on weekends). Otherwise, it's a great venue to catch a live show, and their marquee seemed quite full on the outside of the building.

I noticed all of the reviews for the CAC were 8+ years old, and they've gone through so many…read morechanges since then. The CAC is a wonderful asset in Williamsport and the larger community. Not only is it a beautiful, historic building, but they bring a variety of performances to the area. Their newest director, Jim Dougherty, and his team have done an excellent job of bringing much larger and appealing acts than were previously coming through. The variety is noticeably improved, bringing more people in the door to appreciate the venue. It's amazing to see a historic theater host everything from the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra to the Mean Girls Musical to a Pink Floyd tribute band to a country singer to a Bluey show to comedians. We are so fortunate to have this venue in north central PA.

BUYER BEWARE: On…read more4/12/2026 I held a Celebration of Life event for my mother at Iron Front in Lewisburg Pa. Literally nothing was prepared for the event ahead of time. I arrived an hour ahead and had to go looking for staff repeatedly, which continued to be the case even after people were arriving for the event at the appointed time. I paid $475 for drinks for 100 people that were non-existent. I was so occupied with other things not done, that it wasn't until way into the event that I realized the drinks had not been set up for the event. The only drinks sitting out were from the prior event that had been held that day! There was warm and watered down "iced" tea and water from the prior event. It was brought to my attention by attendees that there were no drinkable beverages. Soft drinks were to be available on ice. None were. I went to staff, and again this was way into the event, and a woman came and poured ice on top of the tea and water that had been there from the event hours before. My mother had done so much for her community, including having been a District Governor in the Lions Club. It was an embarrassment that people didn't even have basic beverages available to drink. I was assured a microphone would be available for the event. This was very important as the event was centered around a eulogy and people being able to come forward and tell stories about my mother. Eventually, after several prior attempts and not long before the event was to begin, (even into the time when people were arriving), I desperately pled with Nick to come help me with plugging in my music (from my mother's era), a slide presentation, and getting a mic for the event. These were all things I was assured would be available for the event. Nick brought two mics and informed me he had changed the batteries, which I don't question. However, less than 15 minutes into the event, as I was presenting the eulogy, my mic went dead and the other one did not work. This limited our ability to effectively communicate during the event. Also, the slide presentation stopped as soon as a screensaver came on so that didn't work, but...okay. I had requested tables for 100 people and the event coordinator and I had agreed to an arrangement ahead. There were tables for around 36 persons and not as agreed. I would repeatedly have to go back to rooms to try to locate staff and get someone to come back and continue to set up the tables. This task was still incomplete when guests started arriving. As guests were arriving there was one staff person (I do not know his name - he was an African American male) who was working very hard, even putting up tables alone, and also helping at the end of the event. I had ordered and paid for several white tablecloths. They were not provided. Again, I kept asking staff to provide them. There was one long white tablecloth on the table where the food was to be placed. The tablecloth was dirty from the prior event that had been held earlier in the day. Since the caterer could not get someone to change the tablecloth and guests were about to arrive, they did their best to cover up the dirty table cloth by putting food over those spots. However, one could still see that the tablecloth was dirty. A beautiful large floral arrangement and another bouquet had arrived for the event and were sitting in a separate room. I could not handle the large floral arrangement and had to ask a few times to get someone to bring in the flowers. If I had not persisted, they would not have been put in the room. In total, I paid $1722 for this event. I was responsible for planning this event for our family and on my end was prepared. It was a difficult time, obviously, with the loss of our mother. Walking into this disaster at that time was something I never would expect from a reputable business. I thought I was renting a lovely space for a final goodbye to my mother. Instead, guests were walking in and things were a mess. They had no drinks for the 2 1/2 hours of the event. It was an incredibly stressful experience. I don't expect perfection; however, this was way beyond and completely unacceptable. Additionally, I find it noteworthy that I was not allowed to have the name of a contact person, manager, owner. I think that says a lot in itself. However, I was able to locate and contact him re: my concerns, to no avail. He has not responded.

As a roaming independent software professional, I don't always want to work from home (it's overrated). Coffee shops are hit and miss--sometimes too loud and busy. Iron Front is ideal--it has quiet areas for calls or study, and open areas that are more social. In fact I find quiet open areas like this the most conducive to creativity and productivity. I've also attended several gatherings at Iron Front. You can't ask for a nicer event space. I'm a fan of renovated urban loft spaces, and it works great for events too. The kitchen area is a crucial amenity for eating and coffee breaks. I'm especially fond of the fruit-infused ice water that's always on the counter; the brain and body need hydration. An unexpected benefit has been networking. I've made several friends and connected with several local entrepreneurs in this venue. I'd go so far to say I've learned more about entrepreneurship at Iron Front than anywhere else.
