Our only experience with CPYB is their 2-week August Course, which my 15yo daughter attended for…read morethe first time this summer. She had nothing negative to report. The training was excellent, and she loved every class every day. No pointe or partnering and only two classes per day, but small things were worked on and perfected. Knowing the reputation of the school, she was fully expecting to be placed in a lower level to work on basics but was pleasantly surprised to be placed in one of the highest where the focus was on "putting everything together". She felt that she improved tremendously. The two-week program seems to leave dancer and family on their own (outside of the classroom) much more than the five-week. Housing, meals, free time, etc. is left up to individuals. (We stayed in a local hotel but will probably investigate sharing a house with friends if attending in the future.) It was much more like drop-in classes than any of the "traditional" intensives we've done. This worked well for our family and allowed time for the amazing hiking available around Carlisle as well as time for family meals rather than having to work around scheduled activities. Any concerns or questions that we had before arrival were readily addressed with phone calls. The office staff was very helpful as were the "welcoming" staff upon arrival. Once at CPYB, my husband and I had very little contact with the staff, but our daughter said that she felt very comfortable approaching teachers with questions and was always received with kindness and eager assistance. Our experience was very positive, my daughter hopes to return in the summers to come, and we recommend this program for excellent training in a positive environment.

In nearly all of the 5 classes I observed over 2 days, I saw both talent on the part of some of the youngsters and the intelligence and expertise in the teachers. They exude generosity and pride in passing down the art form they have dedicated themselves to since childhood. Though the founder/legendary teacher is no longer, her legacy seems to be thriving...God bless this worthy institution.

The Harris' are great people, love the kids and teach them to be great people, not just dancers. There are other studios, but none that offers the balance of challenging dance, and learning to tell a story through dance. They focus on performance, not competition. My favorite is the spring ballet, which is a full length ballet performed by the entire studio, from 4 years old to adult. They have a wide breadth of courses, for kids and adults. All styles and skill levels. They also have some acting, singing and music teachers for whatever you might like to learn. They offer 8 week sessions for very little money, and also do bring a friend classes a couple times a year. I highly recommend them.

Also check on their bodies for any markings that you are unfamiliar with.
