There was a great advertisement photo of what the class was "supposed" to be painting yesterday. It was a Halloween inspired Van Gogh style "Spooky Starry Night". My sister and I were unsure if we could make it or not and held off buying tickets online. We decided we could make it happen and arrived 20 mins before class to inquire about joining in before anyone had even showed up. The instructor had zero clue how many were in the class and if there would be room for us. She then suggested that we wait at the bar and have some food while the class filled to see if there would be room. We were told they would let us know. We waited while trying to see if we would be asked to come in and join, circling by the room every now and again. No one came, not even her helper to poke her head out to motion us in. We realized they started the class without us. I went inside and saw two seats available. I inquired again but was really surprised that they never bothered with a heads up and started without us. We spent the class speed painting attempting to catch up from the point of starting the third color block. The canvas didn't want to absorb the paint well or even perhaps the standard primary color jugs used for these kind of classes were even more smeary and less opaque. Not to mention I had to use the flashlight on my phone because the space in the restaurant has extremely low lighting. This was all made worse because the instructor went faster through steps than what I've experienced in other similar wine and canvas classes. The class was supposed to be held from 2-5pm and the instructor was done with all the steps before 3:30. In the end, the painting the instructor did was not even a shade of the advertisement. Not even a semi close rendering for instruction. We were bummed despite sorta getting to join the class. I say it like that because they just left us at the bar and started without us. We were the first to arrive. Forgotten about even though those seats were available while we waited. Then absolutely no real instruction or attempt to see where most of the class was progressing. The instructor never had personality or attempted to at least catch my sister up during the lull and tell her how to make tertiary colors. Shes a complete novice and thats what the classes are for, the average person without experience. We asked the instructor about paying her for the class at the end and she seemed to have amnesia that we were the ones that joined in. It just seemed like one hand didn't know what the other was doing. After all if we weren't honest we could have literally walked out and she wouldn't have realized that payment wasn't rendered after we joined in. This birthday gift for my sister was a bust. Here is the instructors picture the entire class looked upon as she sped through the steps. I've also included the advertisement photo. I will say that art is subjective, no step by step painting will be the same but literally it was never even close. The base paint for the image is different, the direction the picture was painted didn't allow for all the images to be spaced appropriately, the color scheme wasn't right... hands down the worst outcome of any wine and paint class I've taken. read more

I absolutely love this Wine & Canvas location! Don't be intimidated by painting; the instructors are wonderful and you'll be really impressed with your finished product. Originally I purchased a Groupon for 2 and brought my fiancé here for a date night. I enjoyed the class so much that a year later I had my bachelorette party here. There were about 10-12 of us in our group and we had a wonderful time. New calendars/painting schedules come out a month in advance and depending on the painting and/or location classes do sell out. I recommend reserving your spot early. Classes usually start at 7pm and are over between 10-10:30 if you're at the N. Gates Dr. location. Beer and wine must be purchased at the event; which can add up to be an expensive night. For $35 you get to take home your own masterpiece. What's more fun than that? read more

I've been to Wine & Canvas twice. First time was with my spouse for a Valentine's Day painting & the second time was last night with my best friend to do a sunflower painting. This review I'm writing is based off the second time. My experience the first time was so awesome that I wanted my friend to experience it but my friend & I didn't have as great of an experience as I did the first time with my spouse. We feel like we got jipped a little bit. The instructor was really nice but her direction wasn't very clear, she went a little too fast in the beginning & was kind of all over the place with her step by step instructions. Multiple people kept expressing concern over her technique because it was a little all over the place. I made the comment to 'trust the process' & she agreed that by the end all of our paintings would look alike or similar to the original one but none of them did. They all looked great in their own way though! But it definitely wasn't what we expected. She showed us how to paint the sunflowers, I followed her directions exactly as she stated but later on I noticed she was combining some of her flower petals on her painting into bigger petals & she done that without telling us to do that as well. After we had all painted our sunflowers over the background she told us to then go back over the green background with black, after we had already painted sunflowers over the green. A few people stated that they couldn't do that at that point in the painting & they where right. Adding the black to the green portion of the background should have been done way before we started on the sunflowers. She never told us to blend our orange & yellow colors in the sky, I had to take it upon myself to just do it at the end. My friend asked her where the example painting was, because she would have been more confident if she could have viewed an already finished painting in front of us & the instructor said she didn't need the example painting so she doesn't go to the storage unit to get them & that it takes too long to go through all the paintings in storage so she (the instructor) just looks at the picture of the painting on her phone. My friend said she felt like the instructor made it more about herself by making comments like the one about the example painting & showing us how she does it instead of trying to show us different ways to do the painting but still getting a similar result. I have zero experience in painting professionally but even I know you paint from the back to the front. It's Bob Ross 101. We do plan on going back to do another painting but honestly, we're really hoping it's not the same instructor as last time. I do fee a little bad writing this review because the instructor was very nice but she simply wasn't a good instructor. My friend & I are both wives & mothers with very busy schedules so planning this took a lot of time & we where so excited for this experience but the lack of direction & clarification on things from the instructor kind of dulled our experience so fingers crossed next time will be better for us! read more

i always have a great time at wine and canvas. they have really cool paintings that when you first look at them, you completely think "there's no way I can do this". but they walk you through it step by step and it's amazing. Even someone like me who can't draw stick figures can come pretty close to what the instructor has done. If this is something you've wanted to try, but have been afraid to, then get over there! your only regret will be that you waited so long to do it! read more

Painting is a hobby of mine so I've been to wine and canvas about 10 times and thoroughly enjoy it each and every time! Love the rewards punch cards too!
