I normally avoid windward boats because the parts guys that worked there had a lot of attitude. However i called in yesterday looking for a part and was pleasantly surprised when the person on the phone was not only nice but knew how to find a not so common part. I believe his name was Alex. He took the time to text me a parts diagram to make sure we were talking about the same part for the correct year motor. He indeed identified the correct part and advised me he had one in stock. unlike past experiences where the guy in the parts department would tell you bring in the old part so they can match it up. Be careful here. We took a small 4 horsepower outboard boat engine here that suddenly stopped working (was only a couple years old with little use). They quoted us $500 for repair, we paid it as a deposit, and we told them to let us know if it was going to be higher than that because we didn't want to spend more than that (would've opted to buy a new one instead). After not hearing from them for a week, we called to check and were told the engine was trash, no good, and would cost way more to fix than to buy brand new. Of course we expected to pay some sort of diagnostic fee... but were told we would be getting none of our $500 back because it took them 3 hours of labor to determine the thing was junk. They claim to have let my boyfriend know this could've been a possible outcome but he was just as shocked as I was about not getting any of the deposit back for a junk engine. read more

We had them scheduled to pick up our boat at a boat ramp in Hawaii Kai. They didn't show. And they didn't let me know they weren't going to show. Called them. Got excuses. Set a new time. They said the driver would call me about 10 minutes out to let me know they were close. That didn't happen. In addition to servicing the motor, I had them clean the bottom of my boat. They charged me more to clean my 15' boat than I pay to have my 74' boat bottom cleaned in San Diego. They don't care about service. Just want their money. read more

Brought my engine there to be repaired because it wouldn't run under load. They called me and let me know that it had been fixed. When I asked them what they had done, they said that they cleaned the plugs. Skeptical, I asked them to put it in a tank and run it. They did and it died under load. After a few days they wanted to charge me more labor to clean the carb than the price of a new carb. I told them no and that I would pick it up. After about two days they called me to let me know that they were going to start charging me a storage fee if I didn't pick up the motor. When i showed up, the next day, they handed me my carb in a box disassembled. Upon further inspection, they had also lost 2 mounting bolts. It's amateur hour over there. read more

He knows the owner, Joe, and he's a straight up guy. He spoke with Randy Marks initially and he was very knowledgeable about the motors. I would avoid this business!!!! They scheduled us to bring our boat in on a certain date. We physically walked in twice to make sure we had to bring the boat in on the specific date. After waiting 2 months we brought it in on the scheduled date and the person in the office said we weren't booked even though he remembered us. What a great experience. All boat parts in stock! Ton's of knowledge. At first I was very scared to take my boat there because I though being a dealership the price would be out of control. I had hoped that taking it there would help me because they would know boats well & be able to diagnose the issue with their knowledge. They did exactly what I had hoped for. I already had some parts on the way, though their expertise was able to diagnose our very difficult issue very quickly. Knowledgeable staff, caring & fair in all their dealings. Great company! So we take our boat to windward boats for repairs hopefully covered by our warranty. After the diag, they couldn't find what was wrong with a basically brand new boat and says we need a new spark plug and fuel flush. The boat only been out twice if that! They also said they needed to do a water test to see whats really wrong with the boat (additional $$$). After water test they knew what was wrong and fixed it....Wrong. Getting the boat back from them, boat was not all the way up on the trailer, right side tail light was cracked as if they ran into the ramp. WB claimed they didn't do that and was our fault. I want to refuse going to them but we still have warranty through them .We have another repair facility but he doesn't want to touch the boat till warranty is up. Don't like saying this but please hurry and be over warranty! When you spend close to 6 figures for a brand new boat you expect it to be problem free in the beginning or why else buy new over used? read more

Do not buy anything from these guys! All parts $ accessories are over 300%- 400% markup!!! Bought a trailer from these guys. They said they would adjust bunks to my boat. When i went to pikup they didnt do anything. Had to reschedule a date and they made it huge hassle. Bought extra gear for maintenance n guides figuring they are the experts but found i got ripped. There markup is crazy!!!!! Beware!!! Lookup parts online. I can see a 25% or even a bit more but this is just crazy!!!! So sad that this biz is on the windward side with zero aloha! read more

just as expected, after giving windward boats a five star review mainly because of Ryan in the service department, Ryan is no longer there and their head mechanic is no longer there. It seems that the average career span at windward boats is a year at best. Every time this business hires good people they end up leaving. In my opinion, part of the reason is the owner hires people from the mainland. I think the reason why is because he can get people cheaper and locals don't want to work there. But it's a good thing for windward boats that they have a monopoly on many brands of boats. As a business owner, I have to give the owner credit for establishing this business and finagling proprietary deals. But as a former customer, I will probably never go back, I'll just buy another brand that I have choices of who I can purchase from. Getting stuck at sea you can't call triple A. I now have a company and certified mechanic that I can thoroughly trust! read more

I should add that I'm pretty picky and our salesman Joe went out of his way to get things right. We got a new Robalo and couldn't be happier...there were a few items that had to be replaced but Ryan in the service department was all over it to correct the problem. I've had several boats through the years and this seems to alway be the case but as I said Ryan from the service department and the rep. from Robalo was very proactive and took care to correct the problem. Said to them do not go over 100$ now 3 months later still not finished and want over 300 for work not wanted and not asked for in my eyes it is theft my plane is to pay to get mother (hostage) and the sue them in small claims court so it cost way more then what there ripping me off for. We are first time boaters and had an outstanding experience with Windward boats buying our first boat . Randy was extremely helpful, giving us great advice and helped us through the buying process. They kept the boat at their location free of charge for more than two month while we waited for our boat slip becoming available.always communicated with all. Jon did a marvelous job delivering the boat and spending time with us offshore teaching us the basics how to pilot a boat. He took time in the marina to go over the boat functions. Purchased a 9.9 yamaha from them . They installed and rigged fuel lines. Took boat to Keehi Lagoon to check it out. Both main motor and kicker quit after 5 min. ? Fuel starve? Did not touch anything on system after leaving Windward boats and their " service manager" ( not Dave) a new guy from Delaware said" yep its all good". That was after I discovered that there was no fuel hose hooked to the kicker motor and he took 10 min searching for one. Should have suspected he was a major Babooze. Only wanted to talk about how small the bikinis were here in HI. Thank God we launched at Keehi and ran a check rather than going to Waianae as planned. Pretty good swell running--would have been up on the beach/ rocks , lost the boat and maybe 2 people hurt or worse. So threw out anchor, sat at edge of reef in channel, called Coast Guard on 16 and NICE FOLKS TOWED US BACK TO DOCK. Wasted all Sunday morning and I dont get many free days. Thankfully I paid with credit card and immediately disputed the installation charge. Let Citibank hammer these clowns! Moral of the story-- go to Chris at Paradise boats in Kanoehe or Richard Stewart Mercury Marine sales and service in Enchanted Lakes but NOT WINDWARD BOATS. Only gave one star because engine sale folks were helpful getting me a deal initially. SERVICE DEPT GETS LIKE 100 NEGATIVE STARS. read more

I recently purchased a Hobie Odyssey kayak from Stan in the kayak department and STAN IS THE MAN!! He not only is the manager, but he is an experienced kayak fisherman himself. He is extremely knowledgeable on kayaks, fishing, fishing on kayaks, and KAYAKS. Being new to the sport of kayak fishing, he answered all of my questions AND he offered his advice and recommendations on rigs, gear, bait, and hot fishing spots. This is a mixed review. I purchased my Yamaha outboard engine here in 2014, and I have had it serviced here every year since. In general they are good, but typically take a long time 2-4 weeks to even do basic maintenance. This last service was my first real trouble. It was to repair a gear shift that is seized on a F6 engine. The same gear shift that was in the shop just last June for the same exact problem. It took four weeks to repair this last time, and 3 weeks this time (although 1 week was spent trying to get Yamaha to help out since this is a design problem.) There was no grease fitting for this seized bushing on my engine, although engines produced since then do have them. Yamaha claimed it was routine maintenance and asked if our marine environment is particularly salty?? No saltier than the past four years I owned the engine. Ultimately W. Boats installed a zerk grease fitting, so that I can hopefully prevent this from happening again any time soon. It was still a $500+ repair for the second time in a year. I tried to pick my engine up three times, and these were pre-arranged times. The first time, I was told it was ready, but when I got there, I was told a tech. called in sick and the other one that was working was on lunch, so it wouldn't be ready for me as planned. The second time I went to get it, I was told it was ready but the inner fuel tank was incorrectly seated and holding off the engine cowling. There tech would have had to remove the fuel cap to get this cowling on, and any properly trained tech. should know that's not normally needed on these engines. Also, when I checked the oil, I could see that the oil change that we agreed would be done, since the entire power head needed to be removed, was not done. Jon Borst, the service manager, took the engine back and had the engine oil changed. Finally, on a third try, I was able to pick up the engine, with the new grease fitting, gas tank installed correctly, and oil change done, but when I got it to my boat, it would not start. Ugghhh. I drove it back over to them. The tech got it running and told me it was running o.k. for an "older" engine. It's a 2014 engine in 2019, maintained by them. Jon Borst the service manager came over and agreed with me that something was still wrong. It turned out that now the carburetor needed to be rebuilt, because it was assembled incorrectly somehow when they put everything back together. Jon rebuilt the carburetor himself and delivered the engine to me the next day. It now purrs like a kitten, and I drove it from WYC to the boat yard, trouble free the next day. So.... stars = 0-1 for long time in shop, unskilled technicians and poor quality workmanship, and Yamaha doing nothing to back their product. + 3-4 stars for Manager Jon Borst, going to bat for me and presenting my case to Yamaha in search of a remedy. Agreeing to do the oil change as agreed, staying in regular contact by phone, apologizing for Yamaha, and poor quality work, fixing my carburetor himself at the point when things finally hit ridiculousness, and for delivering engine to my boat, saving me a fourth trip from town to WB. I would use their service department again as long as Jon is the manager. He is the one person, that I felt truly cared about customer service and quality work, and since he's the boss, he could make it happen, eventually. read more

Bought a brand new Sea Ray from them. Picked it up, and dead battery. They finally put in a new one so we could leave and I thought hey not bad service. Took it out and after first time washing had garbage, carpet chuncks and screws all inside the boat and specifically there's still crap in the drain. Three weekends later w just 17 hours on the boat, the hydraulic cylinder was whining and I saw fluid leaking out of it. I took it to them and they said it had a chunk dented in the cylinder. They blamed me and said it would cost $450. I said NOPE! It's a brand new boat and clearly it was either Mercury or Windward mechanics as all I've done is take my family tubing w it! The service boss finally agreed they'd pay for new cylinder. 2 more weeks and part arrives. I bring boat to them and they swapped it out and then said I owe $660!!! I spoke to manager who claimed they don't do free repairs on boats people have had for a year or two and I started seeing red! I reminded him the boat is brand new and then he said " No cash, No splash!" Like some kind of shady car salesman. He followed up by refusing to give the boat back since he wasn't going to get ripped off by me!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! Currently it's sitting in their yard, I've got no idea when it's getting sorted out or when I'm getting my boat back. I guess if you own a monopoly business then it's screw the customer! I WENT TO GET A BOAT CLEANING PRODUCT, not sure which I wanted though, HAD ON MY MASK, STORE WAS EMPTY. Had a good initial experience with Windward Boats. Jason was nice and helpful and we ended up purchasing a new 30' Sweetwater pontoon boat back in December and added a depth finder. There was a tear in one of the seats that they said they would replace "no problem" (we thought a repair would be fine but were happy with the seat replacement). They also installed the depth reader directly below the ladder which we thought was odd since there were two way better places to mount it. We pointed this out and they told us they could easily move it when we get our seat replaced, even though sooner would've been better since now we have to worry about someone stepping on it while getting into the boat. Well it's been 7 months and we haven't heard from them since their follow up in February asking how our experience was. We reminded them of our issues at that time and and have heard nothing since. Since i'm just getting into kayaking he was able to answer all of my questions and replace all of the parts quickly. Shipped to another island.. when it arived, the axel and torsion bars had stains and rust spots already.. it's been a hassle just to try to get things right and I'll never buy another ez loader again from these folks. Jason offered to send me rust converter lol and new hubbs(cause my new ones also had looked used.. ) since the new axel was on a barge and wasn't gonna be on their island for two weeks. I went ahead and used the old one. When the new one came, I was asked for another credit card and I said no. Service department somewhat knowledgeable - by knowledgeable, they know how to empty your wallet. $1100 of work & the boat runs the same - & They killed both batteries & removed drain plug & never replaced. They didn't want to own the mistakes- Wanted $250 more dollars to "properly test it on the water" Tech does all the work & they bill a mechanics rate. The folks in the boats, sailboats, trailers and kayak sales departments, are some of the most knowledgeable & friendly I've ever met!
