This is a great spot for a CO2 refill. It's affordable, fast, and u can enjoy a beer while your tank is being chilled. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's located right next to The Camp, but you can usually find a spot or 2 out front or use street parking. This place has pretty much anything you would need or could ask for if you want to brew your own beer, but for the people that actually don't brew their own beer like myself, they have excellent selection of beers on tap and available bottles. I recently came in during their 10th anniversary celebration. Because the folks here are knowledgeable and have lots of friends in the craft beer community, there were some gems available on tap. I used to live so close to here and based on the timing of their 10th anniversary, I was right down the street around the time they just opened. Sad I didn't know about it back then, but glad I got to/ get to visit now. It's a store/ small taproom located in the Costa Mesa area a bit south of the South Coast Plaza shopping area. I'm continually pretty blown away with what they had available. The pour prices and the bottles seem to be really reasonably priced. I used to home brew around 10 years ago and went to a supply store in Anaheim off of Orangethorpe. I stopped brewing but recently picked up the hobby again. My old supply store is long gone and Phantom Ales has far less when it comes to home brew supplies and staff isnt very helpful. Windsor is well stocked, has a very helpful and knowledgable staff that have helped me out a few times since im pretty much a noob again, their prices are fair and I really dont see a reason why not to come by and give this place a visit. read more

Really friendly and helpful staff. Prices are competitive if you're in a pinch. Sure you can buy the big things from Amazon, but for the small things like 1 or 2 extra clams and tubes, better to buy it in person to make sure everything fits. As for CO2 refills, they're reasonably priced. My only gripe was that one of the employees filling it up held the tank by the nob. If I learned anything from King of the Hill, that'll cause a leak or worse, Chuck Mangione will have to play for your ruined party when you find out you're out of gas. read more

I recently took an intro home brew class at Windsor Homebrew, and it was awesome. I learned a ton about the process and art of brewing beer. In the course of about three hours, we went from malts to beer in the fermenter. From tasting different varieties of of malted barley, to smelling different hops, and of course sampling different styles of beer, it was interesting and educational. Great place to buy craft beer. Fair prices, and no crazy price gouging like a lot of local places. They have online ordering and no contact beer delivery during this so called Covid crisis, which is nice. You do have to follow their Facebook page to know exactly when they are doing the deliveries as they do not do it every day. Ordering in person at the store can be slow. Scott's five-star service that won this noob's business for life. Ive been dying to brew a mosaic ipa for months but could never find them at other local shops. Windsor does! Searched for an extract recipe online and brought it with. Scott gave me some advice and milled the grains for me. When I was walking around checking out equipment it dawned on me I actually gave him an all-grain recipe. Such a noob. It wasn't a problem though. I embarrassingly informed Scott of my mistake and he made the swap for liquid malt extract. I've been here twice. The first time I came in because they fill C02 Tanks for Kegerators. I was amazed by the selection of beer making equipment they had. I've recently broken into home brewing (4 months ago). Scott was very helpful with a few questions I had about my by first batch of beer I was currently fermenting. 4 Months later, 4 batches of beer under my belt (been ordering online... sorry! I'm now only buying at Windsor), I came in for my second visit... The only reason it took me 4 months to come back and that I've been ordering online is I live about 30-40 min away... I got my C02 tank filled again yesterday and picked up some liquid yeast. Scott was there again, and was incredibly helpful again, had an answer to all of my novice questions and was very nice about answering them. You rock Scott! I even rushed out after (I was running late) and forgot my liquid yeast. When Scott realized I left the yeast, he took care it / put it in refrigeration for me again. I came back 10 minutes later when I realized, I was very grateful that he noticed and held onto the yeast for me. I didn't realize but you can phone in or email over your recipe and they will get the ingredients ready for you. I'd like to remake 2 of 4 recipes I currently have now, I'll be forwarding the recipes over to them via email next time! Scott also told me he has lots of recipes he can provide... Totally lived up to the hype A large selection of all kinds of equipment, ingredients, and books. Guy working was super helpful and easy to talk to. Bought a few different hop pellet packets, some yeast, some brew kits, and other misc parts, all for reasonable prices and of good quality. Hops especially were fresh and smelled amazing on brew day. Came here with a Groupon for a Beer Making Class. It was informative, yes! But I was also misled into thinking it was a hands-on beer making class :( Reservations for the class are quick and painless. You walk in and sit down. The supply area is pretty much set up like classroom style. There is oneee big pot of boiling water with wheat or barely, depends what they're a-brewing. In short....i was there for about two hours watching water boil. Woohooo. There are some opportunities for the "students" to pour, mix, and stir things into the pot! But no coming back in a few weeks to actually try what your class brewed up. Store is a overall lovely supply shop though! Private parking lot is excellent. read more

I started brewing a few years ago when I lived in San Francisco. The weather's perfect for brewing there, the municipal water's amazing, and there's an amazing store called San Francisco Brewcraft where, I thought, you could get pretty much whatever you need. Fast forward to late 2015, when I moved to Costa Mesa. I was super happy to see that there was a homebrew supply store right on Baker, conveniently located between my house and work. I made a point to drop by and take a look and was really impressed with the depth of gear, swag, and ingredients Scott keeps on hand. He actually *does* have pretty much whatever you need, at decent prices and with good service too. I've been dropping by and getting the bulk of my stuff here since. OC brewing has some challenges compared to SF (temperature variations! lousy water!) but the supply store here definitely beats the supply store there based on what you can find. And Scott's a friendly guy who will answer your questions and not make you feel like a jackass for asking them... or for confessing that you idiotically ruined your last batch by pitching at 90°. Yesterday, I wrote a really bad review for Windsor. My wife and I were quite upset that we weren't notified that the brewing class we had signed up for had been canceled. We found out by a note on the door. It was cancelled due to a family emergency, we understand that and are sympathetic. On top of the Yelp review, I messaged Windsor directly. They responded toy email and they made things right. So, because my negative review, here, was all about poor customer service, I felt it was only fair to edit it. If you are looking to either start home brewing, or just need a few ingredients, this is the place. I recently took a introduction beer making class here and the owner, Scott, did an excellent job. In about 2 hours, he went from boiling the water to putting in the hops, to cleaning the bottles, to bottling the beer! Everything was hands on and he lets volunteers help with transporting the beer from one device to the other. Everyone also got to fill out their own bottle of beer, however...unfortunately not to keep!!! He says its something to do with alcohol licenses or WHATEVER...haha But still pretty neat to finally see all the basic steps to brewing broken down and down right in front of you. Within the shop, you can find practically everything you need to successfully brew beer. He also has a variety of hops and grains, and even spices to give your beer its own character. I attended a beer making class here on Sunday from 1-3pm. It was very informative and entertaining thanks to Scott. The class is very educational and a little hands on. You can volunteer to complete certain brewing tasks and everyone gets to bottle a beer! The class is about 20 people and very casual. Only downfall is that there is no tasting or drinking during class. The store isn't licensed to serve alcohol to customers who pay (for the class). It is rare that we try a new brew store, but when your normal places closes early on a Saturday, you don't have a choice. We weren't bothered by the adjustment in our plans this time. The staff was super helpful and friendly. We don't need much in terms of equipment so I didn't really look at prices but it seemed like they have a lot of options. We happened to bring in a grain bill and they put it together and milled it really quickly. I noticed that they have an email on the wall so they can put together your grains ahead of time. They also have a lot of beer at this location. Prices seemed a little high but the selection seemed to include some rare finds so it might be on par with prices elsewhere.
