Being in acute pain for a few days and with the Thanksgiving holidays round the corner, to be able…read moreto get an Endodontist's appointment seemed impossible. I called up a couple including Santa Rosa Endodontics and was accommodated the following day itself, for a consult. I was attended to by Dr. Marina Awad. I had been referred by the dentist for a 'retreat' of the root canal (done just months before) but instead of straight away wanting to go for that, Dr. Awad took the route of doing a thorough reexamination, first. They did a detailed 3 D X-ray, physical examination, blotting paper tests, did the level correction of that tooth cap, asked Qs, made suggestions, asked me to wait for a few weeks and come back (in case I could tolerate the pain and discomfort for a few days) to re-assess if at all a retreat was needed or was it okay to wait for it to heal itself (as visibly all looked okay to Dr. Awad). I preferred to wait and revisit. The thorough examination was undertaken once again and certain valid suggestions were got once again from Dr. Awad. The best part about my visits to her is her understanding and patient attitude. One of the suggestion/option she gave me was to try and wait it out for another six months to see if the issue was coz the root canal needed time for healing or a 'retreat' is really needed due to some other issue, especially when visibly all still seemed okay. I agreed with her point of view & suggestion. She is a thorough professional and seems someone who is in no rush to 'retreat' unless that's necessary. I recommend Dr. Awad and Santa Rosa Endodotics!!

A few weeks after my root canal and the tooth still hurt (I dint think it was possible without the root/nerve). I went back to the endodontist for a follow up. He made me wait 20 minutes before he had his assistant do an X-ray. Another 20 minutes later he walks in and without saying a word he starts looking at the X-rays. Then he says to me that he didn't see anything wrong, and it must have been the placement of the crown by my dentist and It should get better in a month. No pain management was discussed, nor when to come back. I left wondering how a crown placed on a tooth with a root canal hurts when I chew and floss, even a month later. Now I'm at 6 months and pain, but will find someone else to assess the tooth. He may be an excellent endodontist, but that was not my experience... Our family has been going to this location for many years and we had insurance to cover our treatment without any out of pocket, but things happen and our current insurance was no longer on their preferred network. So with this unknown status my son goes to his annual cleaning and then told his insurance may not cover all the cost and that he would have to pay out of pocket for his services. We live over 1 hour away in Willits, CA and he did not know he would have to pay out of pocket until that day. I always try to guide my kids to call me directly if they feel like they don't know how to make a good decisions without my presence, but he thought he would be taken care of as he has with every visit. Then the office asked if he wanted fluoride treatment and X-rays and most people without insurance would most likely opt out of this unless it's free or minimal cost so he did it with good faith that it would be covered by insurance for some of it. In the end he had to pay out of pocket over $234 for everything and for a young college student working part-time that is sad to have been taken advantage of like that. I then called and spoke with Noelle the office Manager who claims she had something come up and that was the reason she did not return my calls as requested last week. Claims that she spoke with the dentist and just danced around my request for some type of credit back for the misfortune with my son's experience. So now I have to write this bad experience review and it all could have been resolved if they just treated my family like a valued customer, but instead I have to chase them for a call back and turn to Yelp to share our experience. Thanks Noelle and Dr. Chung for nothing...WE WILL NOT GO BACK TO THIS OFFICE EVER AGAIN!!!
