After a long journey through multiple endodontists, I finally found my dental savior in Dr. Grove. What I appreciate most about him is his alternative approach to dentistry, specifically his use of oxygen/ozone therapy. Twice now I've come to Dr. Grove with painful toothaches, and each time he's been able to treat the issue without resorting to extraction or root canal, which was the recommendation from other endodontists I had visited. Instead, he used oxygen/ozone therapy to get rid of the pain without invasive surgery. Whereas other endodontists I've been to seem solely focused on profit, Dr. Grove genuinely cares about providing the best treatment for his patients. He takes the time to understand the root cause of the problem and explores alternative solutions that can address the issue effectively without unnecessary procedures. My husband and I recently had to have a root canal done (one day apart) which we were both dreading. Our family dentist (Mike Neal in Healdsburg - best dentist ever!) referred us to Dr. Robert Grove on Farmers Lane in Santa Rosa. I went first (to get it over with). It turned out that not only is Dr. Grove a skilled endodontist, but he and his whole staff are extremely nice people. They were warm and professional - and patient! I'll take "skill" over "nice" any day, but it's a giant bonus when you get both! We never knew that a root canal can actually be painless! We're glad it's over, but if we ever need another root canal, we will go, "fear-free" back to Dr. Grove. read more

Work was fine but be certain to get a written estimate in advance. I was charged $1556 over and above my insurance for one tooth that is just a short-lived fix. I asked how much it would cost in advance and was led to believe that it was going to be about $300 out of pocket. Seriously I have never ever in my life met a dental professional so gentle on my face and mouth yet so deliberate as he expertly performs the best root canals I have ever had in my life. First off he injects his shots of novacane with precision and SLOOOOWLY so that they are virtually pain free. All other doctors jam the novacane and cause me a lot of pain so much so that my eyes would be streaming tears down my cheeks. He uses a special technique where he slowly injects and then manipulates the area to help the area absorb the novacane. At least that is my impression of what it seemed like he was doing to me. I have had 2 root canals worked on by Dr. Grove on two separate occasions. He specializes in only doing root canals. He really knows how to seal the root canal all the way down to the tip of where the root used to be. This is of paramount importance to help prevent underlying infections in the long run that can really compromise your health systemically. And the bonus is that he uses Ozone to further ensure that the root canal is sterilized when it is sealed up so that there are no bad guys lingering around to cause havoc down the road. In 2011 I had 2 separate dentists who caused a lot of pain during office procedures and bad work that caused pain that went on for weeks. One of the dentists even caused me to loose a molar because the root was dying after she worked on it. This same dentist worked on my boyfriends teeth and one of his teeth she replaced a filling on is now extremely sensitive to hot and cold. Anyway, since then I am very scared of dental professionals.... the only exception is Dr. Grove I have no fear of going to his office at all. I went to Dr Grove to get a root canal done. I was referred to him by my amazing, holistig dentist, who knows about the possible dangers of a not-properly-done root canal and the many problems it can cause to your oral, and overall health. I must say, Dr Grove is the most gentle dentist I have ever been to (and I have been to quite a few dentists). Also his staff is amazing and super kind. I did not feel the slightest pain or discomfort, not even during the numbing shot. He has a very effective technique for placing the numbing shot, told me to continue to breathe and stay relaxed: :You breathe, and I wiggle". I don't know how exactly he did it, but he really "wiggled in" that shot, and it was 100% pain-free. The root canal procedure itself was a breeze- no pain, mouth-guard, sunglasses for me (to shield my eyes from the bright lights), him and his assistant explained every step, so I knew at all times what was going on and what to expect. He also uses a new kind of filling material that is already being used sucessfully in Switzerland, but is still rare to come by in the US. Apparently, this filling (my dentist who referred me told me) does not expand/ shrink like the common filling material often does, leaving room for all kinds of bacterial infection/ leakage. I can only recommend Dr Grove and his team for any endodontic procedure you may need. He is so very skilled and so precise, I honestly felt like he was in his element while he was working on my tooth. The endodontist my dentist referred me for a root canal to was on vacation. After seeing good reviews online I cold called Dr. Grove's office on a Monday and they got me in that same Thursday. The staff were very nice and Dr. Grove came out to introduce himself and take me in. I normally hate the pain-killer injection but Dr. Grove's technique was as near painless as I have ever experienced. Throughout the procedure Dr. Grove told me what he was doing and what to expect next, and listened patiently to my questions and concerns. Afterwards he gave me scrips for antibiotics and painkillers, gave me some ibuprofen capsules and said that I could hopefully wait a day or two and then throw the scrips away if I didn't need them, and I did not. I had virtually no discomfort and what there was was easily handled with ibuprofen. This was my first experience with a root canal and I expected far worse. There was no pain, the procedure took an hour and the cost was, I reckon, reasonable. When I returned a week and a half later for the second step of the two-part process things went the same, smooth, professional, painless and done in an hour. I stopped at the counter on the way out, chatting with the Doctor and expecting to pay for the second procedure and the receptionist told me "No charge for today." I am very happy with Dr. Grove and his staff and recommend them highly. read more

After my dentist gave me the bad news of needing a root canal, I was on the phone with every endodontist in the area to shop prices and get an idea of what I was in for. I was quite surprised that the best quote I received was also one of the doctors that my dentist had recommended (Dr. Grove). I went in today for the first stage of my root canal and I was immediately happy with my decision. The staff was super friendly and the office was meticulously organized. The whole procedure took less than an hour and honest to god I felt no pain.. Unbelievable. Update: Until I get an explanation from Dr. Grove himself, although he's a very nice guy, and knowledgable, gentle, and seems caring, I am wondering if the work he did made any sense when I ended up having a broken tooth after the root canal work was done. The diameter of the filling he built was so large that there was not enough tooth left for keeping things sturdy and so finally the tooth broke and I had to get it pulled. :( With regards to restoration of the tooth he did not offer a sense of urgency with re: of me getting a crown and said I may not even need to get a crown, and said I am good for 6 months with the work he did. However my general dentist said with the work he did on my tooth, she wasn't sure if the crown would have been much of help anyways. The remaining tooth that was left was so minimal, I couldn't believe it! Re: his action steps, hind site being 20/20, I would have appreciated the advice of offering having the tooth pulled to begin with considering how little tooth would be left after his root canal procedure, as I ended up paying a good chunk to getting my tooth pulled and a new bridge put in as a result of his negligence. Dr. Grove is an exceptional dentist. He was able to repair a root canal that a doctor in Berkley damaged badly. The dentist in Berkley prescribed the wrong antibiotic twice and I left there in excruciating pain. I have never felt pain like that in my life. I went to Dr. Grove at my sisters recommendation. As someone who has been the victim of unethical dentists and endontologists, I was pleasantly surprised to find someone to help restore my faith in oral health professionals. I truly found him to be a sincere knowledgable and ethical man. Before going to him, I was told by a dentist and an endontologists that I needed a root canal for a molar that was sensitive. I decided to go to Dr. grove for a third opinion! He said it was a judgment call and that he would prefer to try some ozone therapy and see how that went. He injected the ozone and four years later my tooth is fine. He also gave me without charge some oil to put on the gum which was really useful. He was kind courteous ans seemed to genuinely care about my situation. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking an intelligent, sincere, knowledgable but not fanatic alternative practioner.
