It had been many years since I was last at Skytop, but we decided to drive there for dinner one cold winter's night. The dining room had been renovated with new comfortable chairs, but the lights were too bring and the renovation choices made the setting, which used to feel like the first class dining room on the Titanic, feel more like being on a modern cruise ship. The real problem was when the alt rock cover band started playing in the lobby and overwhelmed the classical/light jazz that was still playing in the dining room. They finally closed the doors (though we got up twice to do so that night despite being 30-40 feet from the main door). Every time the door did open it was like a wave until the doors closed and it reseeded back to a strong undertow. Don't get me wrong I like Coldplay as much as I like Coltrane I just don't want hear both at the same time. The menu was not that extensive especially considering a few ingredients seem to dominate multiple dishes. The salads were good with large portions served in even larger bowls. The risotto was gluey and comprised of inconsistently cooked arborio overall lacking in depth of flavor. At $100+ per person (we didnt drink much since we were not staying over and they didnt really try to have us order more) we were expecting a better experience and meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive, but glasses (including water) were left empty on the table for a long time. It's hard to not write a great review because it is clear they are trying; though it seems like they don't know if they are trying to be an elegant, fine dining setting or something trendy. Unfortunately trying to be both 1930s and 2020s results in it feeling more like the mid 1990s. Where they have succeeded, is the lobby and bar which were renovated since the last visit as well, but retained the old elegance and charm with restored fireplaces, and comfortable seating. Next time I think we would just go for drinks.

Our server Lizzy was friendly and kind as well. An impressive children's menu included filet mignon with mashed potatoes and other items you might expect including: Mac and cheese and chicken fingers. The cocktail menu was very nice and for starters we opted for some fresh oysters. Very good flavor but alas, the didn't prepare them for slurping and we had to make the muscle cut ourselves. After all of the sauce, lemon, and hot sauce we added, it was a waste because the oysters weren't cleaned properly. Not a meal catastrophe but a detractor none-the-less. The braised rib meal my wife ordered and my own Chilean sea bass were both very good and presented over butternut sauce and mashed potatoes with a vegetable medley. Prices at the resort were respectable and our entire meal with two cocktails was about $170 before tip. Not too shabby for a good meal while at a beautiful resort. This space also doubles for the breakfast buffet that we found to be A-ok as well. The buffet had all of the usual breakfast items you would expect plus a beautiful selection of fresh fruit and pastries. Have simple kasha or an omelet made to order to make your meal your own experience. Coffee is included but the cappuccino will set you back another $4.25. Fair value and good tasting food. $25 for adults and half that for the chillens

They have a pretty extensive mocktail menu if you don't/can't drink alcohol which I appreciate as well, but didn't try anything. We had the tirokafteri appetizer and it was amazing!!! We loved it. The staff really cares. I even spilt some pasta sauce on my shirt and they came over with club soda and a fresh napkin to help me out. Would love to dine here again!

I informed the waitress, and she kindly replaced it ,but the second bottle had the same issue. My daughter refused to drink anything else, so I had no choice but to go out to the parking lot and get our own bottled water. That should have been the first sign that the experience wasn't going to improve. We all ordered burgers, and they were extremely disappointing. Not only were they overpriced, but the buns were completely soaked in grease and falling apart. Even though we requested medium-rare, the burgers came out raw -- not just pink, but visibly undercooked. It was very unappetizing. While the restaurant itself has a cozy atmosphere, the quality of the food and overall experience overshadowed that. We left feeling uncomfortable, and our stomachs started hurting afterward. Sadly, we regret choosing this place and would not return.

My husband had the snowball which he thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend both. They only have a few bottled beers but had many wines to choose from. We went with the special soup of the day which was a tomato soup with rice --- it was to die for! For our entrees, I went with the blue salmon which came with a baked potato and veggie of the day (creamed spinach with feta cheese). My husband opted for the pork tenderloin. He doesn't like spinach so they accommodated that by offering a different veggie (broccoli or green beans). My husband was very happy and raved about the broccoli and said the pork tenderloin was the best he ever had. For dessert, we went with the brownie towers, which came out kind of hard. The waitress (Jeannie) apologized and even brought us out another piece. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. We sat on the porch, it was really nice. The only thing I can recommend was maybe adding light dinner music to enhance the experience. All in all, the meal and experience was worth every penny and I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

Once you enter through the store, there is a sign to wait to be seated. The place has a nice and bright rustic vibe to it. I really liked the decor and table setup. Even the napkins had a rustic vibe. Started off with the potato scoop ($16) which was my fave item. The potato was shaped like the Fritos scoop chip, and the cheese dip that came with it had chunks of cheese in a melted cheese sauce. For my main, got the pulled pork sandwich ($16), which came in a pretzel knot bun and creamy slaw. It was solid meal and very filling. Other mains ordered were the roast beef "pho" style sandwich ($16) which I had a bite of and it was good and not what I expected thinking roast beef. Roast turkey ($16) was warm and also tasty. Each of the mains came with a side of potato salad. I will be back to try the sloppy Joe and their dinner meals. I highly recommend this place if you want tasty, high quality meal for a fair price. * Highly recommend making reservations on weekends * Street parking * Good service

As an out of towner who has access to amazing cuisine options in my area this restaurant gets three stars and that's being nice. When you walk in it's like a motel entrance. Literally it has all the tourist pamphlets lining the entrance to the hostess stand which doubles as the front desk of the hotel. It's not welcoming and feels cheap. To get to the restaurant you walk down a narrow long bar area where plenty of locals (I'm assuming) were enjoying happy hour. Loud and unwelcoming imho. We were seated in a two top which is super close to another two top. When I requested a booth in leu of the table (every booth was empty) the hostess said they were all reserved. Noting during our entire dining experience there were empty booths. Felt a little shady. Server was very sweet and great personality but unfortunately was not very fast. Every time she finally came back to the table she was apologizing for taking so long. She had other tables but wasn't in the weeds that we could see (in my youth I worked both as a server and hostess). The homemade bread we were looking forward to wasn't fresh and it was lacking taste as was the dipping oil. Adding salt and pepper helped the oil dip. Even though we were both hungry we didn't eat all the bread. That's a problem. We ordered clams as an appetizer. Again, tasteless needed salt, no flavor otherwise. For dinner, I ordered a seafood trio with Brussel sprouts. My husband ordered a fillet cooked, medium with a baked potato. The crabcake lacked flavor had way too much filling tasted like it came from Cisco. After a second bite, I would not eat anymore. The shrimp was ho hum and the lobster not that great either. My husband's steak was very bland no flavor in the meat even though it was cooked to temperature with a slight char on the outside. Because of the slow service and lack of flavor in the food we just wanted to check and get out of there as quickly as possible. What a bust for over $200.
