We had a fairly good Sunday lunch here today; baked cod for me and turkey & ham for my wife both served with under seasoned mashed and roast potatoes. Side vegetables were broccoli and carrots.
I had a cream of vegetable soup for starter with thin cut wheaten bread that I wouldn't take again and my wife had spring rolls (2) that she would have again. My cod would have benefitted greatly from a tasty sauce - cream/wine or tomato/garlic based. Cod of its own hasn't great flavour and this cod sadly was not uber fresh.
Similarly my wife doesn't like gravy (offered with turkey & ham) and asked for pepper sauce which wasn't available. It is a pub that serves food so it should be able to rustle up a pepper sauce. Service was attentive and friendly and a lovely ambiance.
Two starters, two mains, a glass of rosé and a cappuccino €64.50.
The journey to here is usually easy but was slow today as the town had been seized up and hard to negotiate driving in as there was a mid morning marathon and today is St Brigid's day. She is one of Ireland's three national saints of Ireland with Patrick (who was Welsh) and Columba - who died in Iona - being the other two.
The last time we were here and the last time it was so shut down was just before President Joe Biden visited Dundalk en route to Carlingford 16 miles away where his ancestors departed for America. Who ever thought Come back Joe All is Forgiven.
The creature now infecting the White House used 'cost of living' as the stick to beat President Biden as after years of stagnating wages and rising costs, many middle-class Americans felt that the system no longer affords them a fair bite of the cherry in terms of home ownership, healthcare and university access: now while it's probably still the biggest sword hanging over his own presidency it might take second place to the latest events in Minneapolis where George Floyd was murdered by the State in 2020.
I think I'll stay on the outside occasionally looking in. read more
