We went for dinner and got the lunch menu as they are one and the same. Had a buffet option of frozen fried foods, stuffed peppers that could have been mistaken for meatballs drowning in tomato sauce. String beans were swimming in bacon fat with fatty chunks. Another option was the soup and salad bar. White bean soup was like wallpaper paste. Broccoli soup was just as pasty but green. Neither had any flavor. Salad bar had bare minimals. Soup bowls were either a tiny butter dish or a ramekin. When I asked for a soup bowl the waitress pointed to my 2 choices. We shared a club sandwich which was ok. Went for breakfast the next day because the nearest town is 20 minutes away. Breakfast buffet was poor so we ordered off the menu. My traditional breakfast was fair. Ham steak was the highlight of my meal. Never got the potatoes that came with my plate. Also a first for me. Got the heal or end of the bread. Whole place is closed next year for major renovations. Should have closed sooner. Dining room overlooks the lake. Too bad the outside desk wasn't open. read more

Favorite thing here is their fried chicken and catfish! We've also been to Wild game night and that was awesome-- Lots of variety and it was on point! Unfortunately, like many restaurants it seems, they have experienced staffing shortages. Despite that the staff is always friendly and the service is good. Saturday evening buffet had very greasy meatloaf, very greasy brisket and lasagna that looked like it was sitting there for a couple days. The vegetables were so so. Dessert was apple and peach cobbler that tasted like frozen store bought. I grew up visiting the lodge multiple times per summer. It was always good until the last 4-5 years. This place is a bit musty smelling. Which was ok because we had our pup with us so we needed to sit on the patio. If you sit on the patio everything you order has to be served in styrofoam containers appropriately. Even your beer. Of course they put it in the styrofoam piping hot so it melts around your food. Not so appetizing. I ordered a side salad which meant I got a styrofoam to go box and got it off their buffet. The buffet looked like it could have been set the day before. Needless to say it did not look fresh. We also ordered fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, and fried catfish. We thought...you can screw up fried food. Well worth the little drive, looking around to make sure you find the right place, then park, and walk! This gem took us a bit to find yet so glad we did! Beautiful area and hope to some day stay a few days for a bit of R&R. They were sold out at the time we found it, next time we will call in advance. Lake Barkley State Park is a beautiful area and well taken care of. Windows On The Water is a wonderful surprise to enjoy lunch (next time we will try dinner!). I must say when we arrived and made our way down the stairs to the restaurant there were three younger ladies who would have rather finished their non business conversation instead of greeting us which was a bit of a turn off. Yet after a few minutes a more experienced woman greeted us, seated us and was the most lovely waitress we could have asked for! We enjoyed our lunch, view of both inside and outside! The restaurant itself is quite rustic attractive and perfect for the setting! The lunch did take about 20- 25 minutes to be served yet when it was it was flavorful, hot and delicious! This place doesn't even deserve one store. They got shut down for three days because the place was so infested with roaches. They say they had a fire due to an exhaust fan problem which was a lie because they covered up for all the bedbugs they had and getting insurance money in funding for it. Do not eat here it is infested with roaches even after they shut it down and spray there's still roaches everywhere. They have foundation problem which was neglected for years and there's no telli g when that place will collapse. Stay away. read more

It was anniversary but unfortunately too late to see the water. I was surprised at the limited menu, chicken strips, fish, one other entree plus a few sandwiches. However, the soup and salad bar was good. Based on the fact it was in a resort, the place wasn't as upscale as I had anticipated. We were there in October, so at least it was open. Prices were low. Two of us ate for less than $25.00. (No drinks). Go earlier to get what is supposed to be a spectacular sunset view. read more

We came here for the seafood buffet that they offer on a Friday night, once a month. It's $16.99 per person, but that doesn't include crab legs. The crab legs were an extra $7.50 per pound, which isn't a bad price. I was going to add the crab legs, but at the table next to us, I noticed that they were extremely small. The buffet included frog legs, shrimp cocktail, pulled pork, clam chowder and a lot of other things. Some of the items were a bit under temperature. I loved the shrimp and the cocktail sauce. The salad was on point too. It's definitely worth the drive out, if you're in the area. The restaurant is actually part of the Lake Barkley State Resort, so when you pull up, there aren't any signs that specifically indicate "Windows on the Water". There was a small sign that said "dining room". There wasn't outside dining, which was a bit disappointing, but we sat as close to the lake view that we could. The windows need to be cleaned... just throwing that out there. If you're going to indicate windows in your name, at least maintain them. There's an awesome porch area that overlooks the lake. It has a few rocking chairs, but the old ladies occupying them, had set up shop and sat there the entire time that we are inside. They offered and took our picture with the picturesque view in the background, so I took back all of the harsh things I was thinking as I waited inside for them to get up, and it never happened. read more

Um... okay... so my fiance and I stopped in to check out the state park to see if we wanted to have our wedding and reception here. While visiting, we decided we needed to try their food so we ended up at Windows on the Water. The server was not attentive at all- we felt like she was in la la land. The salad bar was solid- not Sizzler or Ruby Tuesday's solid but very good nonetheless. The diet coke was the best mix I've tasted in a long time. The grilled chicken sandwich is comparable to say a Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich and I switched the fries (which my fiance said were really good) for the salad bar sandwich and salad bar $7.49. My fiance went w/ the same dish w/ fries and added the salad bar for a total of $10.48. The drinks are $1.99- ask for one to go! In a pinch, I would eat here again BUT I sincerely hope management works w/ their employees on customer service and teaches them to clear empty dishes from the table- several tables sat dirty long after the customers had left and NO, they weren't busy at all!! Also, the place needs to be cleaned- the windows were filthy w/ hand and finger prints, the ceiling beams need to be cleaned b/c that stuff falls and guess where it goes?... Since they don't care to clean the restaurant, I could only imagine the state of the kitchen.... read more

View is nice and that's about it. Got the kids a cheeseburger, the patty was almost nonexistent, it was so thin. Fries are just frozen bland stuff. I got the fried chicken wrap, asked for no tomato but still got it, cheese inside seemed just like a slice of kraft melted. Husband got something called Hot Brown, whatever they are calling cheese sauce poured over the top of it was gross, tasted like a bland white gravy and it was maybe lukewarm. We didn't have it, but checked out the buffet before deciding... salad bar looked fine, both meat option looked like they had been sitting for a few hours ( ribs, and couldn't tell if the other was chicken strips or fish) all sides looked fine. Service was friendly but a bit slow considering there were only 2 other tables sat. I do have to say the rolls the brought out before the meal were quite delicious. We asked for more. read more

It was Mother's Day yesterday. Our family of eight encouraging people drove from Hopkinsville, Kentucky on this special day plus it was my birthday, also. My oldest son is a Pastor of a local Church in Hopkinsville. After the AWESOME Mother's Day Service, his father in-law's family quickly left and drove away to secure a table for our party of eight. We were some what hungry and excited to be there. I was looking forward to dining in this well known Lake Barkley Lodge restaurant for the first time. The place was packed with customers! I relished the natural beauty of this place. Although many customers became impatient and left, we stayed there for 2 1/2 hours visiting and nibbling on Chex mix and free beverages. As, the Yerton's table was called, we lined up and noticed how the composed young lady at the front of the staircase was extremely gracious to disgruntled customers awaiting for their name to be called. We assured her verbally of her great work. Our server, I think her name was Lindie preformed her job exquisitely. The food, servers, and restaurant experience was worth the long anticipated wait. read more

Yum! We visited Windows on the Water during a baseball tournament and it was awesome. The buffet was $10.99 per adult and for 16-18 year old boys this was heaven. They served fried chicken, brisket, pulled pork, chicken and dumplings, summer squash mix, carrots, hominy, corn on the cob, greens, Mac and cheese, green beans, a huge salad bar and more desserts than I could count. The ingredients were seasonal and delicious. They views are unbelievable. read more

The hot brown is enormous and very good. Service was good but somewhat uneven as the waiter was terrific but paying up front was a little slow. My wife had the quesadillas, and they were very good as well. Quite reasonable prices with huge portions. We really enjoyed our meal, and it was on the coldest day of the year. Beautiful dining room that is a little dated, but it is a state resort park. We stayed in the hotel and again, the rooms could use a freshening, but overall a pretty good value for the price. I don't understand the positive reviews this restaurant has. To be sure, the view is wonderful and the service is friendly and pleasant if a little slow at times. However, the food quality is just disappointing. Some of the items appeared to be made by hand by people who knew how to cook. Sadly, the majority of the food appeared to be taken from a can and boiled to all the flavor was gone, or taken from the freezer and reheated until hot and gross. This restaurant could be so much more. Instead they've got bare cafeteria style tables, plastic glasses that look like they came straight from the 70's, and eating utensils rolled up in a cheap paper napkin. Every time we've gone, the floor has been littered with crumbs, the the table was sticky, and the plates looked like they need a through scrubbing. WOW offers a full buffet including soup and salad bar and desert bar. They also offer menu fare and kids meals. Most in my party ordered the buffet and everyone was happy. We visited at both lunch and dinner and I ordered menu items each time. The food was good but came out luke warm (both times.). Staff was friendly. We had a 2 year old who wouldn't eat what we ordered for him. We stayed at the Resort for three nights, so we had a good chance to experience the different meals at this restaurant. The restaurant offers both menu items and a full buffet. Given that the buffet was only a dollar or two more than the menu items, we generally ate off the buffet ($10.95). The one menu item we did order as take out was a cheese burger and fries, which was cooked properly (medium) and tasted good. There are 3 different food bars... an entree and sides bar, a salad bar, and a dessert bar. We were pleasantly surprised that not only were there several entrees to select from (fish, chicken, pork), but that they all tasted really good!!! The sauteed veggies were warm and still somewhat crunchy (as opposed to mush) and overall, the choice of side dishes was amazing! Everything was well seasoned and tasted homemade, as opposed to cafeteria style food. Even the soup tasted homemade. Very flavorful and fresh. The wait staff were some of the friendliest folks and were always quick to serve. The view of the lake through the big tall glass windows that surround the restaurant was geeat and we enjoyed several beautiful sunsets there. The resort is a gem, and we will definitely be back to enjoy both the resort and the restaurant. read more

Stopped here for lunch this weekend during a family weekend at Lake Barkley. I would have to say the experience was disappointing. Our server was great. Friendly and experienced. However the food was just so so. Our orders spanned the three options... food bar, salad bar and off the menu. The only special dish was the pimento cheese. Pimento cheese is a personal favorite of mine and their's was delicious. Unfortunately nothing else was up to the same level. I don't think we will return for lunch but might try it for breakfast on a future trip. read more
