Saying this a really do think its worth at least one visit. The layout and décor is warm and friendly and staff always greet you pleasantly on arrival. Service is quick and food always arrives warm. This is a chain of pubs so don't go expecting home cooked food, it is however good quality food for what it is. If you visit ensure you take a look at the 'specials' board which on some days containing more options than the menu!!!

The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. There is an extensive choice of food between the menu and the specials board and as they pride themselves on their home-made pies I plumped for the steak pie, whilst my husband chose the steak and kidney pudding. When the pie arrived at the table it looked super, a generous slice full of steak and accompanied by chips and mushy peas. Unfortunately, it was a little bit disappointing as some of the larger pieces of steak in the pie were a bit chewy, such a shame as it really was a tasty pie. We didn't dine so I can't comment on the food but it looked fine and dandy and I'd certainly give it a whirl when we're next in the area. Black Sheep and Wainwright's were the two beers I remember being on the pumps. The thing I found most notable during my visit though was the friendly and exceptionally helpful staff, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them, excellent! One small gripe is the fact that it is not an easy place to get to without a car (bus transportation is limited and does not run late at night). Parking is limited around the pub, or you can try grabbing a space around the greens. An excellent place to meet friends or enjoy a good meal. But make sure someone stays sober to drive home otherwise you could end up with a big taxi bill.
