It's been a couple of years since we last visited the Hand & Dagger and it has changed ownership so we were interested to see what changes had been made to it, if any. Our first impression was that it seemed a little lighter and cheerier in terms of decor though the basic layout hadn't really changed. There is a main bar area and also a room towards the rear with a pool table, also outside seating to the front of the pub and another little beer garden at the back. They seem to be working hard to provide an interesting menu with daily specials etc. and the prices seemed a bit below average for the area and style of menu. We didn't dine so I can't comment on the food but it looked fine and dandy and I'd certainly give it a whirl when we're next in the area. Black Sheep and Wainwright's were the two beers I remember being on the pumps. The thing I found most notable during my visit though was the friendly and exceptionally helpful staff, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them, excellent! There is ample car parking and just across the road down some steps is the Lancaster Canal with moorings for two or three boats. Pleasant little pub! read more
