Each time I set foot in the cute little town of Twin Lakes, I make a stop at Shooting Star Gallery…read more WHY? ++ Considering the town of Twin Lakes is just 3 blocks long, the gallery is easy to spot from the main road! Originally nestled near the General Store, the gallery became increasingly more popular and moved to a space just down the way to make room for more art! ++ Their motto of "Small Town Treasure Shop" completely holds true! Although semi small in size (but bigger than their original location), the shop offers a wide variety of items - lamps, bracelets, earrings and other jewelry featuring local gems, gorgeous scenery photography and blown glass pieces are just a fraction of the treasures found in this gallery! There truly is something for everyone! ++ Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is handcrafted locally! With over 81 artist works in shop ranging in price from reasonable to exceptional, it gives me great pleasure to purchase items knowing it supports a local artist! ++ Staff is insanely friendly, nice and easily strikes up a conversation with visitors! I had a question regarding the gem in a pair of earrings and bracelet which the sweet woman was able to answer on the spot. She also provided me with the artist's name, and pointed to a few other works by her as well! ++ Although their blog is a bit out of date, the website showcases the works of various artists. Each spotlight introduces you to each artist, highlights various works and explains the thought behind creation! Each spotlight also directs visitors to the artists corresponding social media (Facebook, Etsy, etc...) pages for further information and online ordering! When in Twin Lakes - COME HERE!

As a local who also works at a well respected establishment in town, I was extremely disappointed to experience such shocking treatment for merely using the public sidewalk to answer a simple phone call in an extremely quiet and personal manner nearby the store. I've never been spoken to in a such a way. We need to do better to support one another--I will never endorse a business with such blatant and clearly, somehow acceptable, treatment towards kind and well-meaning folks on their end. Not okay under any circumstances, and certainly no way to handle an honest misunderstanding which could have been easily resolved with a simple and polite request.

They have some great, simple/short trails to the left of the main hatchery buildings. Being more of a nature trail, it is not as involved as some of the other hikes you can encounter in Colorado, so to me this is a great option for families with kids or anyone not wanting to commit a full-day to a hiking trip. There are some mild inclines, but nothing over-the-top. I think the trail we took ended up taking an hour, but we were in full-on exploring mode and reading/looking at everything. There is a lot of educational signage on the trails and around the hatchery property, and the setting around the area is beautiful. The hatchery is cool, too - but for me, the highlight is everything else.
