Popular stops near the festival site include Base Village and Rodeo Lot. 4 stars because maps provided are difficult to read.

If you have come to Colorado to experience…read morethe outdoors and are passing through/staying nearby, you should definitely put this on your list. They have some great, simple/short trails to the left of the main hatchery buildings. Being more of a nature trail, it is not as involved as some of the other hikes you can encounter in Colorado, so to me this is a great option for families with kids or anyone not wanting to commit a full-day to a hiking trip. There are some mild inclines, but nothing over-the-top. I think the trail we took ended up taking an hour, but we were in full-on exploring mode and reading/looking at everything. There is a lot of educational signage on the trails and around the hatchery property, and the setting around the area is beautiful. The hatchery is cool, too - but for me, the highlight is everything else.

Got to learn about not only the fish, but the pants and flowers that were in the area on the way to see the fish.

So, we decided to check out Basalt. We were lucky to find Heather's. The place has a great cozy vibe. Our servers were very friendly and welcoming. The food was simply fantastic! We enjoyed everything we had. Starting with their delicious Wild Mushroom Soup, then a very fresh and tasty Garden Salad, next we split a Chicken Pot Pie and the Stuffed Pork Chop entrees! That stuffed pork chop had a wonderful mushroom risotto accompanying it and was stuffed with a delicious gruyere cheese and a nicely done asparagus. So good! I went to the Rodeo this past Wednesday night, and it was a great time! For $20, you get to watch…read morea 1.5 hour long show. I've only ever been to one other rodeo, and it was in Pennsylvania. It was much longer, and I wish this one would have been 2.5 hours. I really enjoyed the show. We came as a decent-sized group, and it is a bit challenging to get seating as a group. Be prepared to split up a bit. Our group's ages ranged from an eight year old to a retiree. Everyone had a good time. There are many kids activities if you have children! The actual rodeo has the events you would suspect, like bull riding, horse races, and bucking-bronco riding. However, my favorite event is the mutton bustin'. Nine kids, ages 4-7 are chosen to ride on the top of a sheep until they fall off. The kids get trampled by the sheep, and while it shouldn't be funny, it is mildly hysterical. There is also a mechanical bull for kids and adults to ride. This Rodeo has a BBQ and alcohol tent where you can get all sorts of things to eat and drink. I didn't get anything, but the prices were pretty typical for Aspen/Snowmass. This is definitely a fun thing to do on a summer night, and the Rodeo should not be missed.
