I normally don't do reviews, but I felt like I had to here. We called Wilson's and told them our water softener was leaking and asked if they could fix it. The dispatcher said they fixed these units, so we asked them to come and check our softener out. She said it would be $100 to come out to diagnose the problem. The guy showed up a few days later in his fancy truck. He saw our softener and immediately said, "we don't fix those; you need one of these". He pulled out a binder and tried to sell me on a three-stage water filtration system. He said no one gets water softeners anymore. I told him I like my softener and just want it fixed. He kept trying to sell me on the $4000 filtration system, at which time I told him I don't want that system. He said he could get me a new softener system but that would cost about the same. I told him I just want my Pentair unit fixed, simple as that. He told me he couldn't do it. He didn't even look at the system. I called two other plumbers, and no one seems interested in fixing my system. I went to YouTube and looked up how to diagnose and fix Pentair softener problems. They had a great rebuild page for the softener. It turns out I had a cracked piston and faulty seal, causing my softener to leak. $120 later an about an hour to disassemble/assemble, I got my softener up and running again. Nine months, still broken, zero accountability My family has used Wilson's Plumbing for decades. We chose them for a $27,000 Mitsubishi mini-split installation despite their bid being the highest because we trusted their reputation. That trust was misplaced. One of the two units stopped cooling and started leaking water within weeks of installation. The bedroom unit works perfectly, so this isn't a design issue. It's a workmanship issue. Over nine months and more than six service visits, their lead tech added refrigerant multiple times without ever using a scale (a basic industry requirement), repeatedly told the office the unit was "working properly" when it wasn't, and never followed through on a Mitsubishi warranty case. I called Mitsubishi myself and they confirmed they'd been waiting weeks for a callback that never came. An independent contractor (Bellows Plumbing) confirmed what I'd been saying all along: the system wasn't functioning and appeared to have a refrigerant leak. Wilson's agreed to pay for that inspection. Their own technician later found the system critically low on refrigerant, yet somehow reported "no leak found." Beyond the HVAC failure, the crew's conduct on-site was unprofessional. I asked them to move my glass-top printer cabinet before working near it. They refused, then dropped a screwdriver on it and shattered the glass. To their credit, they did replace the top at their expense. But they also tracked dog waste through my house and scratched my walls with their ladder. The carelessness was consistent from start to finish. I've requested written documentation of service visits multiple times over three months. Never received it. Phone calls go unreturned. Heather is perpetually "unavailable." I gave this company every opportunity to make it right privately. Extensions, patience, benefit of the doubt. After nine months of broken promises and a unit that still doesn't work, I've had to file a bond claim and formal complaints just to get a response. If you're considering Wilson's for HVAC work, get everything in writing and document everything from day one. I wish I hadn't had to learn that lesson this way. read more

2/5/2024 Wilson's Plumbing & Heating is an excellent company with exceptional employees! Yesterday, in the midst of a storm with unprecedented hurricane category winds for the greater Monterey Bay Area, Matt Williams came to our rescue. With two clogged toilets and the added stress of flickering lights, pouring rain & winds that sent objects outside crashing loudly to the ground, we needed help desperately. When Matt was about two minutes from our house, we lost power. When he arrived around 9:00 am, he politely introduced himself, reassured us that he'd do his best to resolve the clogs and quickly went to work. Matt even climbed under our house to fully ascertain the situation. Fortunately, the power came back on within 15 minutes of his arrival because he needed power to resolve the clog in our main sewer line. Despite some crazy challenges, Matt was tenacious and wouldn't give up trying to resolve the clogged main sewer line when we know other plumbers would've tossed in the towel. At one point, after putting in a few hours work trying to get things moving, he told us that we might have to call another plumbing service. He looked even more sadder than we felt. We had shared our experience with Wilson's with Matt and he knew we preferred them over any other plumbing company. Back in March of 2020 at the very beginning of the pandemic, we were considering buying our house and wanted to have our own inspections done. Well, the extraordinary Richard Johnson came out to do a plumbing inspection and we were so impressed with Richard, that after we purchased our fixer upper, we had Wilson's Plumbing & Heating install all new ductwork, a new furnace, and at his recommendation, we replaced the old gas water heater with a newer electric heat pump. Doing remodeling work during this time was very, very stressful with all sorts of supply chain issues & work-stoppages when anyone tested positive for COVID-19. Wilson's came through for us & we were pleased with the level of service they provided during those very uncertain times. Because Matt Williams is not only professional, courteous and knowledgeable, but also very compassionate, he continued to figure out what he could do on a stormy, windy Sunday to help us. He reached out to his boss, George, and explained the gravity of our situation. Thankfully, George agreed to drive over to our house which is located in another town to help him. What a great manager-owner! Together, they manually unloaded this very heavy equipment with a super long cable from Matt's truck that unfortunately, wouldn't automatically unload previously via a remote and they carried it all the way to the back of our house. After that, Matt got to work yet again to try to unclog our main sewer line. Around 3:00 pm, he succeeded and when we were able to flush our toilets several times with no back ups, we finally let out sighs of relief. Matt communicated with us throughout the entire process and when he finished, he explained everything that he had done. He also gave us some helpful recommendations about our plumbing. Matt's work ethic is very rare in today's world and we are so grateful for his dedication to his craft. We're very thankful that Wilson's was there for us again and despite the many hours of work that Matt put in, this fine company only charged us a flat rate to fix our clogged main sewer line. Three visits from Wilson's Plumbing, and $489.00 later, our tankless water heater was still not fixed. After discussing options with their associate, who offered a $489.00 "rebate" (if we purchased a tanked water heater from Wilson's Plumbing), we chose to take them up on their offer. The estimate was $2932.84! A charge for $218.29 was included because the "job required an assistant". So, we hired another plumber, skilled and experienced who, without an assistant, did a superb job!! The total cost including the Bradford White Defendor 50 gal. was under $1800.00. read more

I had a major job that these guys had to figure out, and they did it. A car ran through my house and destroyed everything in its path. One part of my house was from the earlier 1940s, and and the the other side was from the 90s. I say that, to stress how difficult this job was. They had to crawl through slush to find pipes, reattach pipes and then add new ones - complicated. Manny, the tech, was amazing. Not only did Manny do a good job at installing a new gas line and the sewer line, but by putting up with me. I questioned his every move because of the nature of this repair. It was a sensitive time for my family and me and he handled every question like a pro, never impatient with me. I've known Gary, the owner, for a while and he was also amazing at dealing with me and answering questions. I know you can find cheaper plumbers, gardeners, hairstylists etc.... The list can go on. The difference is, these guys stand behind their work, they' been in business for generations (so their warranty will be valid) and the guys will get the job done right. Thank you! read more

What a racket! Our furnace started failing. I called Wilson's. The sent out a service tech (nice guy) to diagnose the problem. After quite a bit of time, and some unsolicited conversation on replacing my whole unit, we concluded it was the controller board. He warned me it was going to be expensive and went out to his truck to calculate a price. While he was doing his estimate I looked online and found that replacement boards were readily available. He came back with a $1270 price. My online price was $150. So obviously I bought my own board and popped it in. Good for us, but my wife and I feel sorry for people who aren't comfortable with this kind of self maintenance. The service company deserves some markup for their administrative costs, but 800% is ridiculous. read more

We would avoid this plumbing service in the future and would not recommend their service, with one caveat. If you are wealthy and can afford an overpriced plumber then these guys are for you. Our story; we needed a faucet installed and a bathroom drain snaked. I'm disabled and cannot get under a sink well enough to replace a faucet. The plumber quoted us $349. to install the new faucet. We needed it done and I couldn't do it. So we agreed. The faucet was replaced and it didn't leak. He gave a quote on the bathtub drain snaking at $200. Urgency on our part dictated our agreement for the go ahead. The plumber lifted the drain cap itself and cleaned out by hand some soap residue. It took him 5 minutes total. The drain was unclogged. No snake required. I asked him if their would be an adjustment to the quote and he didn't respond. He went to his van to write up a final bill and demanded $549. total for tasks. No adjustment. I awarded two stars because the faucet didn't leak so at least they know how to install faucets well. Anyone in business needs to make a profit, profit is good but profit for the sake of profit is greed and in this case the company was simply greedy. Wilson's Plumbing and Heating are disqualified from further consideration. read more

Never again! We have had an issue with our pilot light not staying lit. We called Wilson's and for $151 they came out and "re-lit" the pilot and left. Since we already know how to light the pilot but it won't stay lit, I called them back. They came out a second time (no charge) and said that the 6 yr old water heater needed to be replaced. They lit the pilot and left again. After 4 months of lighting the pilot EVERY TIME WE NEEDED HOT WATER, I called Wilson's back a 3rd time. They let me know that the Water Heater was installed improperly in their opinion, that they cleaned the unit and if it wont stay lit, its an issue with the water heater itself. They offered me another $150 bill to come and "take a look". I declined and called Clifton's Plumbing who not only rectified the issue but showed us that Wilson's actually DID NOT clean anything and that a piece of insulation had fallen in top of our water heater during a bathroom remodel, causing a fire hazard and the pilot light to shut off for safety purposes. I am leaving this review due to the extreme safety issue that was not brought to our attention nor was it mentioned and far from taken care off. Do not waste your time or money on Wilson's and DO NOT TRUST THEM TO TAKE YOUR SAFETY INTO ACCOUNT!!! read more

I had a similar experience to Sandra. And it was Wilsons (not Chris Wilson). They recommended replacing the whole heater system because it was too old and the circuit board was bad which they said the cheapest one was $4000 - umm .... I'm pretty sure That would have fixed the problem but our heater is only 10 years old and it was working fine before.. Luckily I had a contractor friend that referred me to someone else that said that it was just the sensor that was only $20 ... and it was. We used Staley's Heating & Sheet Metal in Salinas. I disagree with the dissenters here who gave a negative review. On Friday night we had a blowout of a water pipe in the bathroom last night and were very lucky that we were home to shut off the water. Called Roto Rooter (supposedly 24 hr. service) and the plumber took 3 hours to get back to us and then he advised that he would come out in the morning to see what parts he needed but could only come to solve the problem on Monday. Called Wilson's in the AM and they were here by mid afternoon. Their guy, Richard, was very professional, answered all questions clearly and was able to fix the problem in 20 min. Had a sink drain cleared and a leaking faucet on my sink repaired. My opinion is that I would explore other options in the future vs using Wilson Plumbing and Heating. This is because they are absolutely HIGH in their pricing. They were here for less than an hour and it cost me over $400 to do the work. What was really ridiculous was the price to repair the dripping faucet: $280.99. The faucet was less than $80 when I bought it new. It took all of 5 minutes for this work to be completed. The response time was quick. Less that an hour. The plumber that came to my house was courteous and professional. Clean up was done after the work was complete. THE PRICING IS OUTRAGEOUS! Wilson's has done a ton of work at my home over the last 10 years. Well they seem to be getting a little greedy these days. What a rip off! Install of a kitchen faucet (and I bought the faucet) and deinstalled of the old kitchen faucet, $316.00 for 25 minutes of de install and installation time. WTH! Called three different plumbing companies after the work was completed and their rates were from $110.00 - $115.00 per hour. Each one said it would take no more than 20-30 minutes to install. Gary, I think you need to reevaluate your pricing. That was usury and I'm very disappointed in Wilson's pricing after what I thought was responsible work and pricing over the last 10 yrs. $316.00.....wow wee! read more

Cory solved our problem with customer service in mind. Great job! Our existing tankless water heater gave us many problems. It was very doubtful that just replacing the heater with a different brand would solve the problem. Unbelievably, Cory replaced the water heater and it solved all but one of the problems that we had. After a coupe of weeks, Cory contacted us to follow up. We told Cory about the one remaining problem. He made a courtesy call and spent quite a bit of time analyzing the problem Would you believe it, he fixed that one too by selecting a different mode of operation on the heater. I have not technically used Wilsons but my husband and I were in Home Depot and needed help and could not find anyone and Wilsons technician Richard Johnson helped us find the piece we needed. He was clearly off duty and had no reason to help us then he was a genuinely nice guy. I will definitely be using Wilsons for future plumbing needs and encourage them to give Richard the props he deserves. I will say they are polite guys, they do get the job done, but they are prohibitively expensive. I had one furnace service and then one plumbing service. A few minutes of work on a stopped drain was nearly $174. Then about a half hour of work on a furnace issue was nearly $800. The menu pricing doesn't save you all that much, but I did get to use their stupid $10 coupon. Wow! What savings. It's unlikely I'll call them again. read more

I thought I was the only one that felt completely ripped off and scared into thinking there was a bigger problem than there really was until I read the other YELP reviews. The technician was nice , and snaked my sewer drain, but informed me that it was so bad that I needed a new line (a cost of $8,000-$12,000) or I was probably going to get sewage coming back up into my house? I told him I had to definitely think about it, but he was very persistent. And to top it off they charged me four times the amount that my usual plumber (Crazy Drains) charges me!!! FOUR TIMES THE AMOUNT! These guys are all about sales, and getting the most money they can get from you. But heck, as you can see by reviews it's not just my opinion! read more

While the young man who came and performed the needed work was personable, clean, and did a pretty good job - he did neglect to tighten a clamp under the sink - thankfully I came into my kitchen not long after starting my dishwasher to find the kitchen floor flooded - had I waited any longer, it would have migrated to my hardwood floors! We recently had a power outage in Carmel Valley. Apparently the outage was preceded by a spike. The result is that our gas furnace no longer worked. I checked the power and the Earthquake Gas Shut-off Valve and both seemed fine. Since the furnace was installed by Wilson's Plumbing, I called their number which was posted on our furnace and told them the furnace was not working. On 10/18/19 they sent a technician over who spent about a half-hour replacing the fuse inside the furnace and another 15 minutes completing the installation of a new thermostat I had just acquired. The bill for this service call, a Minor Heating Inspection, was $123.97. The furnace started before he left. Two days later, a Sunday, we tried to turn on the heat and when it didn't come on I checked the fuse inside the furnace. Finding the fuse to be OK, we decided to wait until Tuesday to call Wilson's again. The same technician came over on Tuesday afternoon, but brought with him yet another technician, an older gentleman. The primary technician opened up the furnace and checked around, stating that the problem was that the 120V - 24V transformer was fried, a Packard PF42440, a replacement for which he had in his truck. The other technician did nothing but stand around. With the transformer replaced, the furnace was closed up, checked and was running. The bill for this 40 minute service call, to inspect the furnace and replace the transformer - the bill which read only "J20400-40VA MULTI TRANSFORMER" was $411.71, which with a $61.71 discount for being an existing customer came to $347.51. I wrote a check as the technician read the bill from his tablet. Later I received an invoice by email for $352.29, with a balance due of $4.78. I called them the next day and told the person on the phone that given that only one technician was required (the primary technician had worked on the furnace only two days earlier) and all that was required was a transformer that costs no more than $30 on Amazon the charge seem egregious. He asked if I wanted to speak with the primary technician -- he would have to call him to get him to respond and I said I would call again the next day to speak with management. On calling the next day, the person answering the phone said he would get Richard, the primary technician, to call me. Richard was courteous both times he was in our house - my complaint is not about the behavior of the technician, but about the price I was charged. read more

Like so many in Pacific Grove, we own a very old, historically protected home (ours had 100 year old plumbing mostly still intact). Retrofitting this old home to modern plumbing has been quite a challenge. A very old, heavily protected tree (with its roots) encroached on our sewer line, so we were required to run a lateral line to the city sewer line. This was done expeditiously, without trenching or digging up the yard and with no damage to the surrounding structures. No more sewer backups! A low flow toilet was required by law, and the existing galvanized effluent pipe was so corroded that the low flow toilet could not work well enough. Just getting access to the old piping was a challenge. However, that work has been trouble free for almost 10 years! Finally, the old galvanized plumbing in the kitchen needed to be converted. On each and every event (6 times) over the past 10 years in which we have used Wilson's to fix the decrepit and outdated plumbing system, they have been friendly, professional, courteous, clean, and expert in their work. They are always supremely prompt. They answer all of my questions in fine detail. They obtain permits when required. There has been no collateral damage to any of our property. They respect the old architecture of these old, protected homes. All of our work has been extensive--I have not called them for a minor leak, and I install my own faucets, wax rings, etc. Their prices have been around $300/hour per worker on site. read more

They came out to my house in salinas and did a wonderful job. The technician was very professional and the people on the phone were well organized. They were more expensive than your small plumbing company with out the resources which a large company has but they have a great warranty and are licensed and fully insured. You have to remember that you get what you pay for. Should you pay more for professional service? That's up to you but it is worth it to me. John P read more
